RARE CAR!!! At the beginning of the 21st Century, in the decade of the "twenties" or the "two
thousands" or whatever, the Cosworth Vega today remains RELEVANT to every car that comes down the
road. Electronic fuel injection, stainless steel headers, production cast aluminum wheels, 16 valves in
hemispherical combustion chambers, dual overhead belt driven camshafts, and pistons sliding directly
on die‐cast aluminum cylinder bores, were all pioneered by the Cosworth Vega. These elements are
shared with a host of MODERN automobiles.
Rare, with but 3,508 manufactured, you may never encounter one driving on the street. That is one of
its many charms and attractions.
A quick glance is enough to tell you that this is not your ordinary Vega. The differences are more than
flash and sizzle; beneath the Cosworth Vega's distinctive exterior lies a heart and soul completely
different from every other 30 year old car out there.
COSWORTH VEGA QUICK FACTS
Do you know that a 1976 Corvette cost only $900.00 more than a 1976 Cosworth Vega? Or...you could
purchase two Vega's for the price of one Cosworth Vega!!!
3,508 Cosworth Vegas were assembled at Chevrolet's Lordstown Assembly Plant from February 1975 to
July 1976; 2,061 ‐ 1975 models and 1,447 ‐ 1976 models.
190,321 Vega hatchback coupes were produced in this same time period.
All 1975 Cosworth Vega models were finished in black acrylic lacquer.
All 1975 models have a four‐speed gearbox with the standard Vega ratios coupled to a 3.73:1 axle
ratio. Positraction was an option.
A new option for 1976 (RPO M75) was the Borg‐Warner T‐50 five‐speed gearbox coupled to 4.10:1
axle. The four‐speed with a 3.73:1 rear axle continued as standard equipment. Positraction continued
as an option for both drivetrain combinations.
Beginning in approximately February 1976, Lordstown began building Cosworth Vegas in eight additional
acrylic lacquer exterior colors from the Vega model line's 14 available choices ‐ Antique White, Dark Blue
Metallic, Firethorn Metallic, Mahogany Metallic, Dark Green Metallic, Buckskin, Medium Saddle
Metallic, and Medium Orange. In addition, two additional interior colors became available to
complement the new exterior colors ‐ Firethorn and Buckskin. These colors were available in either
grained vinyl or "sport‐cloth" for an additional $18 charge.
Seller is Vallen Nelson, located in Joplin, MO. The VIN is 1V7706U197076 and the mileage is listed as

This firethorn car appeared on eBay in late October of 2006. It is located in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The
ad read: “up for auction, is a 76 Vega Cosworth, this is the rarest Chevrolet car they ever built, only
building a little over 3000 of them and only a little more than 1000 of them in 76. This car is in great
shape for a 76 Vega; they were known to rust on the showroom floor. This one has a little rust on the
battery tray and that’s about it; it has a few very minor blisters on the rain gutter and the door but
nothing to worry about. This is probably one of the cleanest ones you will find. I have seen others on
here for $11k. This one is a lot less. You can drive this one home and to the shows. I was told by the
previous owner that it has 38k original miles, and it shows. I have a box full of Cosworth Vega books and
all his paperwork on it. The car drives and shifts great and it has the 5‐speed. It has a stereo but no
speakers‐‐it has wires ran ready for some. The gold on the dash has faded, but the rest of the interior is
like new. The car has a header from the factory and the previous owner has put a loud pipe on it. Some
of you will love it, but it’s too loud for me. But then again I am getting old. It could use a fuel relay
switch (cheap), as sometimes when you kill the motor it keeps running. You have to hit the dash under
the radio and then it cuts off though, so you can use the one that is in there, but like I said a relay is very
cheap. Also, it could use a hood latch on the hood, but it still opens and shuts very well‐‐you just have
to lift it up (big deal). This car is a great find and a wonderful investment due to the rarity and the
quality of this one; it has a low reserve and is for sale locally, so seller has the right to end the auction at
anytime. This is a binding contract, so bid to own, not to show up and dream and try to bargain. I also
can assist with

ENGINE IS APART BUT LOOKS TO BE ALL THERE, IT HAS THE 5SPEED TRANSMISSION & THE ODOMETER
READS 30000 FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT JERRY AT 262‐914‐6911.” And according to a post
on http://forums.h‐body.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29178 by Rob from Glendale, AZ, His profile says,
“1976 Cosworth Vega, #2825. I'm not a purest, this is gonna have a V8.” “Hi everyone, I've been a
lurker for awhile, but now I've finally bought my car. I just got a 1976 Cosworth Vega, with a motor that
burnt up 3 valves. So I'm gonna drop in my 1998 Vortec 350, with a LT4 Hot Cam, and have a little fun.
Being a Cosworth, it came with the 7.5" posi, 4.10 rear, so YEAH!!! Look for future posts from me selling
off some of the Cosworth specific stuff, in case you’re interested. Future plans, picture the Vega,
painted gloss black with the gold strips like the Cosworth came with, except using an 1976 style Astre
nose piece, with gold interlay like an 2ng gen Trans Am SE, and using gold Snowflake wheels, or maybe
3rd gen GTA gold wheels.”

Hi. I owned Cosworth number #2826, a 1976 Cosworth. I ended up parting it out and selling off a lot of
items. I still have a bunch left. I have a good 5‐speed from #2826 in my storage locker. In the
replacement motor out of #2826 I put the oil restrictor in the head because the block was already
together. Bobbycosworth. Yahoo post.

Posted in June of 2005: Ok here’s the deal. I have pics of the car. Price is 1500$ FIRM. Have all
documentation from day of sale‐‐window sticker, all the pamphlets and owner’s manual, all in decent
shape, plus the signed Chevy 1 sticker with what I believe is tonwas signature. Plus it has a rebuilt engine
with a brand new 1K$ crank. If you want it, it will need most likely an ECU to repair the minus 1 bank
firing problem. It has all 4 Cosworth rims. It was stored until it was ready to be run. You arrange
transport from northern UT. At this time it DOES NOT run under it own power AND will be SOLD AS IS. It
has 56,700 miles on the speedo. It is a 5‐speed with the optional 4:10 posi. You can Email me at

In a January 2005 post Jon mentioned, “I’m in the final stages of getting #2835 back to running again since it took a
short sleep since 1982. I’ve ran into a problem with finding a suitable number for the fuel filter that threads on to the
fuel line going up to fuel regulator. Anybody that has any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks Jon”
In April of 2005 Jon posted: I’m looking into possibly selling #2835 which has 56,700 miles. I acquired it from
California almost 3 years ago. The engine came in pieces. It came with a brand new forged crank to replace the
original which was ruined when a rod cap gave way. Since I got the car I have rebuilt the engine and reinstalled it in
place. I am running into difficulty with trying to get the car to run due apparently problems with the fuel injection
system not working properly. The car has a well documented history since it left the showroom in Roseburg OR. It
has the window sticker, the original sales contract, and all the sales documentation, etc. It has the Borg WarnerT-50
trans and a spare one. It also has the 4.10 posi rear end. The car is in very good shape other than some surface rust
which can be treated with minimal work. It has one body dent by the gas tank neck and dent in upper rear quarter
panel. It is orange with a now black interior which will need seats recovered. #2835 has a clear Utah title. I will sell
the car COMPLETE. I WILL NOT PART IT OUT PERIOD. I’m looking at selling it for around $2000 due the
low miles and rebuilt engine. Serious buyers only. Contact me at vegalover@yahoo.com for more info or pics.
YOU arrange shipping if you buy it. I really would like to get the car running but due to lack of local help that’s
knowledgeable of these cars is pretty much the reason I’m considering selling it. I’m open to a partial trade for a
decent postal jeep that runs and $ if anybody knows of one. I live in Northern Utah north of Salt Lake City. Thanks.

I’m looking at adding PB s to #2835 when I get ready to put the rebuilt engine into the car. I have all the necessary
parts but was wondering where you tap into the engine to get the necessary vacuum to operate the booster. Also has
anybody added power steering to a Cosworth? As for the information for #2835, here’s the scoop. The outside color
is the orange color still the original paint job just needs a little minor touchup in few small places. I plane on keeping
it as original in color as possible. As for the inside, it’s white with black carpet. The seats and door panels are white
and in very nice shape (and for sale). I’m working with a fellow club member to change out the white parts with nice
shape black parts (not real fond lover of white interior). Other than the interior change of color the only additions
I’m doing to #2835 is adding the factory GM option of factory delay wipers, tilt wheel, PB and PS. I’m replacing the
single plane rotor with vented rotors and calipers of a V6 Monza for improved braking and installing Bilstein shocks
front and rear. Is there a source for boxed and new bushing rear trailing arms? Also, where is a source for a
replacement dash # placard? This is my first Cosworth but probably my 7th or 8th Vega over the years. But this one
is the best I’ve have ever owned even though it came to me in pieces (sort of like a 3D jigsaw puzzle). Jon
I’m trying to get #2835's engine ready to be put back into the car in time for a Car show in August 15.ANYBODY
that has and an EXTRA distributor drive belt or knows what to substitute for it PLEASE let me know. MY email
address is vegalover@yahoo.com or can call me at 801 773 3415 in Clerfield, UT. I would appreciate any help from
the club. THANKS a MILLION. Jon

Jon then posted: “About 1 &1/2 years ago I was able to finally acquire a CV Vega after many years of
wanting one that I liked and was reasonably priced (Thanks Doug Wong!). CV#2835 will soon be back on
the road after a 22 year nap. I will be rebuilding the engine in the next few weeks after getting the last
few parts I needed and all the other tech info I needed. I’m looking for any info on what options were
available from the factory. In particular were Power Brakes and Power steering available? Has anybody
converted to PB from manual brakes and were did they tap into for vacuum to work the PB booster?
And can PS pump be adapted into the CV motor? Also from reading on some of the posts somebody
mentioned adapting the CV head to an Iron Duke motor? Any info from the group?
