December 2004: Mark, I wanted to thank you for the encouragement you provided and give you an
update on 0209. The oil leaks were, mostly, from the cam carrier gasket. There was essentially no
gasket left and several bolts were little more than finger tight. With Jeff Romeo's help, we re‐torqued
the cylinder head bolts, replaced the cam carrier gaskets, and replaced the standard cam carrier bolt
washers with lock washers (a tip that Jeff learned from Bill Hutton). I also replaced the timing belt which
had rubbed against the snubber and was worn, and it was also cracked with age. In the while‐I‐was‐
there category, I replaced radiator hoses and had the radiator boiled out, and had a broken lower timing
cover repaired (ears had broken off, but I found a good welder who was able to repair). I also replaced
the oil pan gaskets, had an inner tie rod end replaced and the front end aligned. Merry Christmas to me
as this was the most $$ (and time) that I'd spent on the car in several years. Big surprise, she is running
better than in some time as well. The cam carrier gasket oil leaks were so bad that they really were
affecting how the car ran in addition to creating a heck of a mess. All 4 spark plugs were under about
three inches of oil and, as you might suspect, were fouled. Jeff had a used set of ACs that he donated
and #0209 again runs like a top. Tom Hutton

In October of 2004 he wrote to Mark Rock: Good progress this past weekend on #0209. With Jeff
Romeo leading the way, we got the cam carrier gasket replaced. Replaced is a joke in that there was
hardly any gasket at all ‐‐ trace pieces was it. No wonder it was leaking like a sieve and running like
garbage! We re‐torqued the head bolts while we were there and, at Jeff's suggestions, replaced the flat
washers with lock washers in the cam carrier. Hopefully, all will be good when it's back together. Yes,
we ran into a couple of surprises. Timing belt needed to be replaced and I've ordered 2 from Chris
Wheaton (one for Jeff, one for me). Radiator looked a little nasty so it will be boiled/rodded (hopefully
that will be all that's needed), and I hope to find suitable replacement radiator hoses (suggestions
appreciated) and I need to locate a lower timing belt cover (one on the car had been repaired previously
and welds are broken). I've asked Chris and Tim Morgan about the timing belt covers but if you've got
one you'd be willing to part with, let me know. Thanks for your encouragement and support. #0209
should be back among the living soon.

dust on it. I'll soon rectify both and hope to have Jeff Romeo down soon for a wrench weekend (my car
needs to have cam carrier gasket replaced and Jeff has offered to help/guide the process).”

In 2006 it came into the possession of Ronnie out of Tellico Plains, TN. He reports in September of 2006:
“I do not know the guy’s name that I bought it from but he worked at Mayfield Dairy in Athens, TN and
he had gotten the car from someone that he worked with there. He thought he could get the car going
(supposedly it ran. Well he had not seen the car before he bought it and the guy he bought it from
delivered it. He promised him a set of seats to go with the car but he called and asked about the seats.
The guy asked him if he had looked at the car yet. Which he hadn't and there are no floor boards left in
the car just the tunnel. I got the car and tore it apart and engine was stuck. Haven't done much with the
car just waiting to restore it. If I have to I will cut a good Vega to fix this Cosworth. Car at this point is a
basket case. Ronnie.”
He later wrote: “I have another 75 that is number 0210, VIN # IV77E5U204495. This car is rough but
still is a Cosworth and I am going to attempt to restore it. I actually thought about lightning it up some
and drag racing it with a Cosworth motor.”

Later owned by Paul Trickett in Michigan. He bought it in 1985. By then it was in “rough” condition. He
ended up selling it for $500. The buyer drove it for a year, and then let it sit on open ground for 5‐6
years. Then it was sold to a mechanic, and after that he lost track of it.

I notified Dick Lilly of Tod’s discovery, and he responded to my email: "Your email was quite a surprise
and I sincerely appreciate you contacting me about #0212. I had assumed that it had gone for scrap
years ago. It is amazing that the new owner lives so close to you. Do you anticipate that he will join
CVOA and work to restore his new car? I bought #0212 on 7/22/75 for $6350 and traded it in on a 1977
Chevrolet Suburban on 3/2/77. I received a trade‐in of $3542.70 and was happy to get even that small
amount as the car had been a major headache while I had it. It spent more time at the dealers,
MacMulkin Chevrolet in Nashua, than at my house. It was often there for weeks at a time. Apparently
there was no one qualified to deal with the fuel injection. I have to assume that someone finally
repaired it properly if it has lasted 30+ years. I still have the original window sticker, my registrations,
lots of repair invoices and a number of magazines from that era about the Cosworth. I have finally
decided that I will probably never have a Cosworth. I have a 1925 Model T Ford and a 1964 Corvair
convertible and these are all the toys I can handle right now. If the new owner would like to have my
entire collection of misc. paperwork all I would ask is that he let me know if someday in the future he
decides to sell #0212 just in case I can’t resist getting another toy. If the new owner would like all my
“stuff” he could email me with his address and I would be happy to send it to him. Again, thanks so
much for remembering my search for this long lost Vega. Perhaps someday I will get to see my old “toy”
again."

My son and I were driving down the road yesterday in my home town and we stop at an intersection. I
make a left and as I look in my rear view mirror I can't believe what I see a few cars back. It looks like a
black Vega but I can't tell if it is a CV or not. So I let the car go by and sure enough it is a '75 CV. I follow
the driver into a gas station and hop out of my car to introduce myself. The driver just bought it from a
used car dealer in Massachusetts. Turns out it is CV #212. The owner, who owns a towing company, told
me he always wanted one and found this one by chance. The paint and interior are rough and the
wheels are in tough shape but it is running and with some TLC it could be very nice. I gave him the CVOA
pitch and some information on the club and as it turns out the guy lives 2 miles from me! I looked in the
registry and #212 is not listed so looks like we may have found another! Tod Erickson, April, 2009. Tod

Hello all: Back in 1975 I purchased CV #212 and absolutely loved the car...when it was running.
Unfortunately, it often had a problem starting when I was ready to go somewhere with it and the dealer
was absolutely no help in resolving the problem. It would be towed in and sit for a couple of weeks
while the mechanics argued about who was going to take the training needed to keep it running. It
actually spent more time at the dealer than in my driveway for the 1st 6 months. Finally I had no other
choice but to trade it on a new Suburban...what a difference. I have no idea where #212 might be today
as I have been trying to locate it for over 10 years. It just occurred to me that posting a message here
might help find it....or, sadly, might confirm that it no longer exists. Can anyone help or offer a
suggestion? Thanks. Dick. rglilly@comcast.net

I have Cosworth #0214. I’m the third owner. The VIN # is 1V77BU204739. I have been looking for
gaskets for the top end but had no luck. Everyone tells me to contact the Cosworth club. The car has
36000 miles on it; it ran good till the head gasket went out. The car sat for 10 years in the weeds, and
before that it sat on the streets in IL. It is rusty. I have a clean body to switch it into. I have five Vegas.
I’ve been a Vega lover since 75. Need contact for parts or prices on gaskets so I can fix or kill this car and
put a 2300cc motor in it or sell the drive train and title. Would the Club be interested in it if I have to do
the unthinkable? Thanks. Matt Nelson, old school # 1 715 875 4853. vegafarm@yahoo.com

will be very interested to hear what you think. The car has essentially no rust, always stored indoors, but does have some little dings from the kids (now 41 and 38) opening the family car door into it when parked in the garage. I sent a pic which tries to show that. It has a slight rip in the drivers seat. I have the crossflow tubes which I took off shortly after purchase as I read that the valves would clog up and were not available to be replaced..
If you need any other info, of course just let me know. I very much appreciate your opinion. Please let me know if you got all 11 pics and rebuild invoice. Have a good day and thanks again!!
Now has approx 74,000 on the body
