My dad had #0037. I drove it. When it ran it was great fun. It did get strangled by emissions, though. When dad couldn’t get it fixed without changing the induction system (fuel injection) it dilapidated in the drive until someone came over that wanted it. That person was told they could have it free if they would promise it never crossed paths with my dad. They took the deal. The quote I remember from my dad was that the fate of the Cosworth Vega was known when they found rust on the aluminum bumpers IN THE SHOWROOM. I think that’s an exaggeration, but I’m not really sure of that.

Hi everyone, I am a new member and just purchased my first Cosworth. I have always wanted one. It's
#0037. It is in need of much work. I am most interested in finding out all the performance
enhancements that can be achieved in this engine. Can anyone tell me what the best sources are? I
would like to keep it fuel injected though. Regan_bob
I forgot to mention that this car is a 1975, #0037, and has been setting for about ten years. It does turn
over with a wrench. I plan on pulling the tank and cleaning it. I thought I might pull the injectors out
and run some fuel through the lines too. It has not been cranked since it was stored. Does anyone have
any other ideas of what else I might need to do before I try to start it? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Please help me revive this Cosworth. My email is: reagan_bob@yahoo.com . Thanks, Bob
According to a February 2004 email, Bob “junked” this car. He wrote, “The 0037 CV I junked ran great,
but with the miles on it, I never imagined it would have been sleeved. When I pulled the head, I was
mad at myself for pulling it before checking first. It was done right with Chrome rings and still had very
evident cross hone marks in the cylinders. I kept everything off that car that was not just sheet metal. I
even kept some of that. I could put the whole fuel injection set‐up on another car, but I would feel
better if I had some spare parts. Like the ECU, coolant sensor, temp switch, Map sensor, etc. Thanks,
Bob.

I recently acquired #0039 and am attempting to learn its history. I was told the original owner ice raced
it in MN or MI. The car has been partially restored with all body, paint and interior. Recent engine
rebuild as well. There are still a few minor trim issues, but nothing that can't be put right hopefully. Can
anybody provide me with any addition information about this car? Kent C. Neal
More information on the car came in an email from Dwayne Florence to Tom Lippert in February, 2008:
Sorry I was not more exact in my note about the car. I actually sold the car to Bill Elliot's truck driver but
I just cannot remember the name. I know I have it at home in paper work but just have not pulled it out
so I am not sure if it is Kent Neal or not. As information, the email address with the rr.com is not a
railroad email, it is actually Road Runner. As for information on the car, I got it from the original owner,
Ralph Grover. When the AAR moved from Chicago to Washington DC in 1985, Ralph asked me to store
the car in my barn in Kentucky until after the move and everything got settled in. We put it up on blocks
and parked it. Apparently everything did not work out for him and I wound up buying the car from him
for the cost of 8 ‐ 10 years of storage. I finally got around to getting it back into shape. Both rear
quarters and both rockers were totally rebuilt (rusted from years in Chicago winters), the car was
repainted, and new decals applied. I took the engine back to Hutton Motors in Clarksville, TN and had
them totally rework the engine before I even tried to turn it over after all the years of sitting. It ran
better than new. I only drove it a little until I finally sold it and it still only had 29,000 miles plus on it. I
just had too many other toys and could not keep up with them all. Attached are a couple of photos just
before I sold it. Dwayne

Cosworth Twin Cam Vega #0039 is being auctioned at Barrett Jackson Palm Beach today (March 29,
2007) at around 2:05 EDST. It is lot #4 on the list and is a black/black vinyl car without pulse air tubes.
The description indicates just 500 miles since a Hutton Motor Engineering engine rebuild. Still retains
factory EFI. It is nice that Bill's company got mentioned in the description. Will try to get the hammer
price from a friend who is there today. Paul
The Barrett Jackson website results indicate Cosworth Twin Cam #0039 left the auction stage at a final
sale price of $8800. Paul

I found this website in hopes of listing Cosworth #0039 for sale; however, I did not want to join just to
sell. #0039 as you know is one of the very first. I am the second owner of #0039, which is all black,
30,000 original miles. Body and paint are very, very good. Engine has about 150 miles on it since I took
it back to Hutton Motors after being in storage for 10 ‐ 12 years. The car is original, never been cut,
wrecked or modified. I have all shop manuals, tech bulletins, supplemental shop manuals that will go
with the car, as well as a few extra parts. It is priced to sell at $4,900. Dwayne
Hi Mark ‐ I really don't want to sell my car #0039 but I just have too many other toys that I can't afford
and I wanted someone to get the Cosworth that appreciates and will take care of it. I just don't have the
time to keep it up. I'm at work now and don't have the VIN number with me although I do have some
photos. The photos show the outside but I don't have photos of the interior or engine. The body has a
door ding on the driver's door and there are a couple of places where there is some light rust started
around the taillights and windshield. These are very small spots, 1/2 to inch long. The engine shows
some very light dust or dirt but basically shines. Just a little light clean up and it would be really
nice. The interior is in good shape except the driver’s seat has about a 6 inch split in the bottom and the
backrest has about a 6 inch tear on the left side, damn screwdriver. The top of the dash panel is faded a
little and has one small crack on the passenger side. Everything else, door panels, headliner, back seat,
etc. is in very good condition. Also has the original floor mats. I took the engine back to Hutton after it
was in storage for a long time. The engine was totally redone, sleeves added and new everything, belts,
valves, pistons, starter, fuel pump, gas tank lined, etc. Over $3,000 in engine work (I have the total
receipt package from Hutton that details everything as well as all the setting and specifications). It does
not have Webers. Right after I had this work done I only drove it on a few weekends before I was
transferred and had to store it again until I got it home. It has been in my driveway or garage for about
6 months and did not want to start last week. Probably bad gas or injectors may be gummed up. This is
why I decided to sell it because I don't want it to sit around and go downhill. My boss bought the car
new and I got it from him. I have all receipts for everything ever done to the car from original sale bill to
the headliner light bulb to the engine work. As I mentioned, I have all the shop manuals as well as many
magazine articles, etc., some from before it was released. I don't have a lot of spare parts but I do have a
new ring gear and pinion, 4.11 in it now, an extra set of Vega wheels and tires for the winter time, some
extra chrome strips from around the window, some gaskets. I now live in Raleigh, North Carolina, where
are you from? The last photo is of one of my other toys that takes my time.

Cosworth #0041 has gone to the happy hunting grounds in Wyoming. It was owned by Mr. Duerr. All
that remain are some parts, including the dash. Here’s part of an e‐mail about the parts:
“Complete spare Cosworth Vega engine (with head, fuel injection, clutch, bellhousing, and high‐
performance CV exhaust header) from 1975 CV #0041 (only 30k miles when removed from car). My
father (who scrapped #0041) is holding up the engine in the jpg. When the engine was removed from
the car, it was apparently rolled over onto its side, which compressed the air cleaner caps, but
otherwise, everything looks intact. The engine hasn't been run in about 20 years (I bought #0041
around 1978 ‐‐ first car I ever bought!). 1 complete set of 4 Cosworth magnesium (sic) wheels (gold)
from 1975 CV #0041. CV factory gold dash bezel from Cosworth Vega #0041. Donald Jeff Duerr, 370

An ad in the May 2004 issue of the CV Magazine says, “CV engine (from CVF#0041) complete w/head,
cam carrier, fuel injection, computer, and exhaust header. From CV #0041. Approximately 30,000
miles. $680 OBO. Don 307‐367‐7776, cv3298@hotmail.com, Laramie, WY.

Sun Oct 01 1995 04:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)
According to the October 1995 Region 8 newsletter, this car is owned by Gordon Till of Rockford MI. At
that time it only had 285 miles on the clock.
In 1973 I began reading about a revolutionary new automobile that Chevrolet Motor Division of General
Motors Corporation was developing, the Cosworth Vega. Having been a long‐time “Chevy” fan, I called
my friend Ken Vos, then selling cars at Berger Chevrolet in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ken and I chatted,
and since no deposit was required, I decided to order one of these new “super‐Vegas”. As often
happens, circumstances changed! Chevy got bogged down in EPA testing, and the car was greatly
delayed in coming to market. I needed transportation, so I purchased a ’74 Vega GT to take to
Washington, D.C. on a change of assignment. In late ’74, my friend told me the Cosworth had arrived,
but I refused delivery because it was too much of a high performance car for the streets of Washington.
The entire experience was long‐forgotten until I met Dale Berger earlier this year (1994, Ed.) at a Train
Collectors Association meeting. When reading my nametag, Dale said, “Hey, I just sold your Cosworth
Vega!” You can imagine my surprise in learning that he had stored “my” car for 20 years after I had
refused delivery. But wait, do the faithful get yet another chance? Sure enough, on August 24, a
classmate from Boston flew to Lansing, Michigan, and I provided him a tour of the city. One of our
agenda items was to view the fine inventory of collectible cars at Holt Auto Sales. Imagine our surprise
when we spotted a Cosworth Vega with a Berger Chevrolet original price sticker on the window. Dale
Berger subsequently confirmed that this was indeed the car, which I had ordered 20 years ago. My
purchase has to be a world’s record for the period between initial order and eventual delivery. MY
Cosworth Vega and I have finally been united! Build number 0042 is in “as delivered from the factory”
condition, with presently less than 300 miles. Gordon E. Vander Till, September 30, 1994. P.S. In
reviewing title transfer papers, the trail of ownership is from Berger Chevrolet to Chuck Yeager, Jr. of
Sylvania, Ohio, to Holt Motor Sales in Holt, Michigan, from which I purchased the vehicle.

The dash from this car appeared on eBay in March of 2009. According to the ad, “What you see here is
a complete dash assembly from a Cosworth Vega. It includes the dash bezel with the special Cosworth ID
tag number 0045. Of course, any dedicated Cosworth Vega owner belongs to CVOA (Cosworth Vega
Owners' Association), as I did for many years‐ and you know this is from a 1975 Cosworth, although it
will fit nicely in to a 1976 model as well. The dash bezel is somewhat faded from the sun.........no
surprise......but it's still presentable enough for your driver. The ID tag is not perfect, but hey‐ how long
has it been since that thing was bolted onto the dash. Just the 45th little Cosworth trundling down the
assembly line at Lordstown. The dash is very complete. It includes the special 6500 redline tach, the
120mph speedo, and the gauges for gas‐temp‐volts‐clock. The clock stem knob is missing‐of course. You
also get the windshield wiper control; the headlamp switch; the heater controls; and the cigarette
lighter. As a special bonus, the original AM radio is still there. Now that's a trip down memory lane.
You'll notice on the back side that the person who removed this from the car didn't bother to remove
any of the plug ins. He just cut the wires! So you get all the "pig tails" as well. Looks like he was in a
hurry. I am told # 0045 gave its last bits to a drag race car‐ oh so sad. Some folks just don't appreciate
automotive history. Believe me, I do. I drove one of these little buggers every day from 1978 until 1990.
I still miss # 2214. With those dual side‐draft Webers on that Hutton intake that thing surprised a few
high‐priced foreign jobs............but I digress. Dash was sold from Westminster, MD.

I was told about a Cosworth rusting away at a shop in New Castle, Delaware. I found car #0045. It's in
pretty bad shape. It appears the owner who runs an auto repair business (Dave’s?) is "going to restore
her someday?" as I was told. However it has sat for years and I was told that the owner wouldn’t part
with the car (I didn't find the owner available). The car is having a slow death. The paint has been
stripped and some primer sprayed on the car. There is a lot of surface rust on the car. The car is across
highway 13 from the Newcastle Airport right behind Hadfield's fish store in an industrial park near the
right front corner of the development (for those close to DE wanting a look at the car). The car has a 4‐
speed and is missing parts (which may be in the hatch area in a collection of parts). It would make a
good parts car or a major restoration effort. Larry
Now owned (October 2004) by a guy who calls himself “big” in Delaware.
