Owned by Jake of Coviello Racing. However, according to an eBay post, it was wrecked at 33k, and the
engine and components were offered for sale in August of 02. Thus, “You are bidding on a 1975
Cosworth Vega twin cam engine. It was removed over a year ago from wrecked Cosworth #1400. This
poor car only had 33,000 miles on it. Engine does turn over but I've never heard it run. Engine comes
with distributor, water pump, cam cover, dipstick, flywheel, clutch (which is a little rusty) and front
pulley. Will it run if just dropped into a car and hooked up?? IT SHOULD. Antifreeze was bright green
and is currently in use in another car. The oil was black but not "milky" or anything gross like that. Yes it
is sitting outside but it is VERY covered up and NO, it isn't swimming in rainwater. No reserve. Engine
will need to be picked up but SOME delivery might be available.” Seller is listed as cindyjo66.

Listed on BarnFinds and Ebay:
As I’m sure long-time Barn Finds readers know, owning a Cosworth Vega is on my bucket list. This one is remarkably inexpensive so far at a current high bid of only $647 without a reserve, but the issues it has may keep most folks away. On the other hand, that makes this car an opportunity for the fan that’s on a lower budget but has time to work through the issues. It’s located in Columbus, Ohio and is listed for sale here on ebay. Let’s delve a little bit into these very unusual cars!
At the time that Chevy first looked at producing the Cosworth Vega, it made all kinds of sense. There were industry movements (spurred largely by the rising popularity of German and Japanese imports) towards smaller cars, and at the same time, Americans had finally started discovering en masse that it was fun to go fast around corners as well as down straights. The newly introduced Vega, named car of the year by Motor Trend in 1971, seemed the perfect platform to produce a sporty version. It had the looks, and in its period black and gold livery it still does!
Although the lack of longevity of the small aluminum block base engine was the eventual downfall for the Vega, close behind were rusting issues that are seen on this car as well. By the time the teething problems with the Cosworth version were past and this car was produced, what started as a powerful engine developed for racing was down to 110 horsepower — not that much better than the 78 or 87 horsepower versions of the base engine. We’re told that this car has covered 123,000 miles and should be considered a project car. It is currently not running but does appear complete and as far as I can tell has all of the rare Cosworth trim items in place. New striping kits are available for once you’ve tackled the surface rust and peeling clear coat on the outside, and the good-looking factory wheels are still on the car.
While the interior looks dirty and I’m pretty sure you’ll want to replace the carpet, I was surprised at how complete and un-butchered it is. The special commemorative plaque is in place showing this is car #1412 of the 2,061 produced in 1975. I need to be careful here as if I’m not careful I will convince myself to place a bid!
Although many cars have been converted to twin side-draft carburetors by now (a prototype running on Webers was reported to have 170 horsepower) I think I’d keep the original fuel injection shown here, at least as a start. Someone else out there has to be fascinated by these factory hot rods like I am — won’t you outbid me? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and thanks for reading!

Ok guys check out this link ‐ make me an offer. She's going cheap. #1412 ‐ All she needs is a timing belt.
Ran great when I parked her. Got her on a trade ‐ don't have much in her and will deliver for the right
price. Don't worry about insulting me ‐ just make an offer. Odometer broke at 13K ‐ I'm guessing actual
is around 20K tops. This car is clean!!

stiffie4x4@hotmail.com CV#1412 is supposed to be an ex CVOA owner’s property. Can somebody give me some information about it? My e‐mail address is in my profile thanks. J‐G. tibeu40
Based on mileage and description I am guessing this must have been in the early 1980s?

This car was bought by a dentist in Savannah. She drove it for only 200 miles and decided she didn’t like
it. Over next 15 years and two owners it accumulated about 24k. It still resides in GA according to Britt
Guerlain in November of 2004.

As of February of 2012, this car is owned by Tom and Jake Lippert. Tom writes: My neighbor's son has a
friend named Zack. Zack's father is Bob (Soja). Bob is either the son or nephew of Tom Soja. Bob was
looking to sell 1421, as it had been given to Zack, and was literally rusted to death. They just wanted to
get rid of the car. I told them that I just did not have the space as I already had the 74 green coupe
which we no longer used. A suggestion was made to just trade cars. Eventually we did the trade, one for
one. 1421 runs, but burns so much oil that I would not dare start it at home. The fuel injection system is
complete. That is the only reason we took the car. Today, Saturday, I took the seats out. The driver seat
was torn and the material very hard and moldy. I gave the seats to Bob, as they were better than those
in the green car we traded to him. Before giving him the seats, I pulled off the back covers looking for a
possible build sheet. Inside the driver seat was a dollar bill folded in fourths. It is a 1974 dollar bill.
There are a number of ways it could have gotten there. The bill is old and dirty, so maybe not new when
stuffed in there. But it does lend itself to thinking that it might have been placed there during the build
of the car. I am fairly certain that the seat backs had never been removed before.

the fuel pumps. The VIN is 1V77E5U255423. He obtained this car in February of 1981. He also owns

This 1,400 original mile 1975 Cosworth Vega is #1422 of 3,508 produced. This survivor is all original with
the exception of the exhaust system and tires, I have the original catalytic converter and muffler. Paint
is excellent condition for a forty year old car and would rate it an 8.5 on a 1‐10 scaling, have paperwork
for rust proofing. Interior is in excellent condition with no rips or tears. Original window sticker was on
the car when I purchased it but had to remove it to prevent any additional fading, also have all the
original sale paperwork from Davy Chevrolet.

1975 Cosworth Vega. Only 1087 miles. Showroom condition, always inside, heated, pampered. I
bought it from the 1st owner with 600 miles, and drive it sparingly ever year the same as him. The
original tires dry rotted; .2 don't hold air. I installed 4 Cooper tires for safety reasons. The original tires
can be re‐installed with tubes. The oil and filter has been changed every year, the gas filter every 2
years. The pictures do not do this justice. I have every documents from the 1st day at the dealership. I
have more and better resolution pictures; send me your email to view. The dashboard # is 1422. The
VIN is 1V77E5U255450. You can view the car in person in Danville, NH.

According to an email in January of 2008, this car is now owned by Billy Ray Doose. He said, “I live in the
Hueytown/ Bessemer/Birmingham Alabama area. I just recently purchased #1426 from Bill Fink.” And,
“I came across Bill Fink back in October and we made a deal on an extra one he had sitting around. He
finally decided to let it go and called me first before he advertised because he promised to give me first
shot at it.It was a 1500 mile round trip to Chesterfield Virginia to get it. He sold me #1426. When I picked
up the car, I couldn't believe it. The interior is in showroom condition. Only 14000 and change miles with
xtra parts. Lotsa up north surface rust but no holes big enough to scare me. It is equipped with Weber
40DCOE's and I could use some tips on adjustment and calibration tools. I just wanted to let our part of
the world that there are real people left. Thanks Bill Fink and Thanks to the CVOA. Billy Ray Doose'”

Now (5/03) owned by Dean Woods of Newmarket, New Hampshire. Has 12,759 original miles! He
bought it from the original owner. It has not run since 1983, and the gas tank smells “ripe”! Hood
release cable broke shortly after he bought it, and he used a wire lasso to open the hood. Originating
dealer was United Chevrolet in Worcester, MA. The car had the Dura‐Coat rust and conversion
treatment. dwtrksvc@aol.com
