Showed up on eBay in July of 2009, located in Whitehouse, OH. The ad reads: Up for auction is a 1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega. The number on the dash is: #1454. This vehicle is in pretty rough shape in the interior. It sat out in the weeds for about a decade and the floor board rusted completely through on the driver’s side. The driver’s door will not close due to the vehicle sagging on the driver’s side. The mice chewed through some of the wires so we were not able to start this car. It was last started and ran well about 12 years ago according to the owner. All of the glass is in good condition and the seats look like they may clean up ok but I think the real value of this car is in the Cosworth engine. Unfortunately we cannot verify that it runs but I think odds are pretty good that it will by looking at it and talking with the owner. We did hook some jumper cables up to it and all of the dash instruments came on and a few of the exterior lights turned on but nothing happens when ignition key is turned. The car is rusted towards the bottom of the car but all the rest of the sheet metal is in good condition with no major dents. The owner was unable to locate a title a title for this car so it is being sold as a parts car only. It would take a lot of work to restore this car but if you are interested in that we could work on trying to get a replacement title for it. Please look at the pictures carefully and ask any questions that you may have prior to bidding.

This car was listed on eBay in May of 2002 as a parts or restoration car. It has been sitting in a New Jersey field for “quite a while”. From the photo it has a rear one-piece louver covering the hatch glass, and what looks to be a three-piece spoiler. Supposedly it has a “Beige/Tan interior” and an “automatic transmission”! Odometer claim is 75,000.

Bob Harwood, father, Sam the son owns it. VIN is 1V77E5U256773. Options, black, black vinyl, tinted glass, rear speaker, AM. 63,400+ miles. No modifications. Just had the wheels done by Wheel Medic. They are thinking about rebuilding the engine to make it higher compression. Bought car from the original owner. It had sat for many years and was buried under a bunch of stuff. Trailering it home, a 12 point buck jumped between the pickup truck and the trailer and pushed in the front left side. They have decided to tear it all apart, take out all the glass, have it professionally repainted, and restore it the “right” way. Member expired Feb 1, 2009

The dash plaque from this car, in very grungy condition, appeared on eBay in Montezuma, IN during May of 2007. Based on the condition of the plaque and the description, I am listing this car as RIP. “Up for auction is a used but in good condition brass Cosworth Vega Dash Plaque #1465. The #1465 is the number of the production of car. I am not sure what year of car this came from. As you can see in one of the pictures it still has the built in mounting screws with bolts and washers. It could use a good cleaning. In the pictures it looks rusted but I do not see any rust. Approximate size 4 1/4 inches long x 1/2 inch tall.

This car was bought by Andrew D. Sheppard of Cocoa FL, 32926. He still owns it in February of 2010. He says the roof is very pitted with rust from sitting outside for a long time, but that the rest of the sheet metal is in excellent shape. ashepco@aol.com

Offered again in January of 2007 by Wellington of Jacksonville, FL: “This vehicle has been in storage since the 1990's..Purchased from the west the car has no rust and is original down to the factory decals in the engine compartment. What attracted me to the car was its correctness and quality. The carpets, interior, rubber floor mats, door panels, dash, headliner and seats are in excellent shape. The tires are a 'matched' set with deep tread remaining. None of the interior has ever been replaced. The first deterioration inside was always the top of the rear seat where the sunlight damaged the vinyl. In this car there is no sun damage. Further the exterior reveals no rust. If you know Vegas, then you know that the 'pinch' welds, cowl, and rear hatch bottom window corners are susceptible to rust. On this car there is none. Check under the rear fenders, in back of the tires at the bottom and the 'pinch' weld is like it left the factory. The engine and components are all in good working order all plumbing, and pollution equipment is present. The original Bendix fuel injection and factory headers are clearly visible in the photos. This car with 66K miles is excellent to restore but don't let the photos fool you it needs a paint job and parking lot rash repair. Please have this car viewed, in person, so that you are fully satisfied with this vehicle. I have $4,250 in the vehicle and that is my reserve. A clear title from 1988 will be provided to the new owner upon payment in full.” The mileage is now 66,394

Offered for sale on eBay in November of 2005: “Classic fuel efficient Vega Cosworth. Ok, here is your chance to own a legend. This is a car that I got from the second owner. I planned on keeping this car for a driver although this is not in the cards for me at this time so here goes. A hotter Vega with just 3,508 built over a two-year production run (note, this car is #1467), the Cosworth Vega is a real collector's item. It is also a historically important car, because it was built as an economical performance car when gasoline prices were driven up by the fuel crisis of the time. Euro technology launched as a 1971 model, the Vega adopted monocoque construction for reduced weight, just like the European imports. Running gear consists of a double wishbone front suspension and a live rear axle, located by control arms and an anti-roll bar. Cosworth Vegas have a quicker steering ratio, and larger radius tires on wide alloy wheels give improved grip. All 1975 Cosworth Vegas used 3.73:1 rear axle ratios, while 1976 used 4.10:1's. The Cosworth's rear suspension is upgraded to handle the engine's power. For 1975 the Cosworth Vega was well ahead of his time, with 110 bhp from its very small 122 cubic inch twin-cam alloy fuel injected engine. I just drove this baby today, and it preformed far better than I expected. Everything works, tach, speedo, signals, lights, horn, am/fm stereo (note: could use new speaker). The interior is spectacular & in perfect condition. The windows roll up & down perfectly, the Muncie 4-speed shifts excellent, the fuel injection works super! The engine does not leak or burn oil & sounds awesome through the tailpipe. This is a nice original car with only 66,375 miles. Nice radial tires, and good brakes & exhaust make this car ready to drive any distance. The only thing I can say to improve on this Vega is give it a new paint job some day. It has the usual spider cracks going on, no rust very dry solid car! This Cosworth is a definite keeper! Easy paint job away from being a 10, Garage kept, super clean underneath. Please call with any and all questions, thanks Curt. 503-314-6686”
