Offered on eBay in July of 2004: “this is a collector’s car for sure.....1975 Chevy Cosworth Vega with factory roll bar, 16 valve overhead dual cam. The car has not been started in 2 years but was running very good then...it is on its 3rd owner and the current owner just hasn't done anything since he purchased it 2 years ago. The interior is in great shape but needs cleaned, especially the carpet. It has 1 bad place on the dash, has some surface rust and only a couple of place that are rusted thru about the size of a quarter. It needs tires, as the ones on it are dry rotten. It has factory aluminum wheels. It is all factory as far as we know except for the roll bar which may be either Autopower industries in San Diego CA or Hooker headers. Thanks to the person who let me know this. I appreciate it a lot. It has an am/fm radio, and it is a standard shift. It has a plate on the dash that says Cosworth Vega 1740. The engine says Cosworth on it also. This car will have no reserve and starts at a great price. If you have any doubts or need any ?????s answered, please email me. Located in Fayetteville, WV.”

The engine from this car appeared on eBay in October of 2009 with the message that the car itself was being converted to a V8. According to the listing out of Bristol, VA, “This is a 1975 Cosworth Vega engine with Webers and tranny, and including the dash and gauges for sale. Parting out the car and making it an LS1 V8. Car ran mint. Free shipping in the continental USA only. Items sell as is and no returns.” In response to questions, the seller says the motor has 40,000 miles on it, that it has a Hurst shifter that comes with it, and that the AM/FM radio is included with the dash.

Offered on eBay in September of 2005, it is a shell located in Anchorage, Alaska. It is almost completely stripped. “This auction is for a RARE 1975 COSWORTH VEGA! This is a completely stripped down rolling chassis, with above-average body only. There is no motor, no transmission, no driveline, no gas tank, no fuel lines, no brake lines, no radiator, no heater box, no interior except door panels and headliner. Glass is complete. ROLLING BODY ONLY! However, the body has very little rust, other than rear hatch around back glass (see pics). Some damage/rust on the hood(see pics). Car includes Centerline-style rims, so-so tires. The VIN (1V77E5U265475) has been verified to be an actual Cosworth Vega, the dash plate is intact (#1743), and the body tag ID matches the VIN. Odometer shows 27,054, but this car is being sold as "true mileage unknown". Car is sold "As Is". I have put a low reserve on this car in order to sell fast. Any Cosworth Vega fans will know these cars were only produced in 1975 and 1976, and they only made about 3500. Buyer is responsible for shipping costs to be determined. The car is located in Alaska, but I am able to arrange ground transportation for the car to the 48 contiguous states, or the buyer can make their own arrangements for ground/ocean.” Black/ Black Vinyl

Todd Laney offered this car for sale on eBay in March of 2007. His ad read: “For Sale: 1975 Cosworth Vega 94,700 miles #1746 needs a paint job. This was a daily driver. It’s all there. No rust holes in body. Pics and further info upon request”
Again offered on eBay with the following update: You’re bidding on a 1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega, # 1746. I bought the car from Oregon and had it shipped here to South Carolina. It was somewhat of a daily driver back and forth to work. It starts good and warms up as it should, and runs good. This car has no holes in it or patches. It is solid, except for the battery area of course. That is rough but repairable. The car has a few minor dents and needs to be stripped and painted. The original fuel pump has been changed to a Holley unit. I stripped and repainted the roof myself. It looks ok but won’t win any shows. (Base coat clear coat). A good wet sand and a buff and the roof would look great! The yellow spots on the fenders are self etching primer covering bare metal to keep it from rusting as I was attempting to do it panel by panel. Interior is in good shape, I added an under dash stereo CD player and left the original am radio intact. The carpet is not original and is ruff, under that the floor is very solid. Seats are good; driver’s seat is ripped at the top, no biggie. Back seat is good, windshield is new, headliner is good, shifter and clutch feel good. Rear glass chrome is good and will be back on soon. Hatch pistons are off another car and are very stout. Twist the key and the hatch goes up on its own. Write me with any questions. The VIN is 1V77E5U265572
He offered it in the Yahoo Groups in March of 2007: Ok y’all here goes...For Sale; 1975 Cosworth Vega, 94,700 miles. #1746 needs a paint job. This was a daily driver. It’s all there. This black/black car is owned by EricC of Seattle. Offered for sale on eBay in October of 2002. Described as: The car is in completely original condition. It runs and drives well, and exhibits the proper warm-up cycle. Everything works except the clock. It passed WA emissions testing when I bought it. There are no options other than the Cosworth package, which consisted of the 2.0 liter, fuel-injected, duel-overhead cam motor complete with stainless steel header, the 4-spd Saginaw transmission, and the 3.73:1 non-posi rear end. The interior is in very good condition with the exception of the carpet, which is intact but shows wear on both the drivers and passenger floor areas. Seats, door panels, etc are all very nice. The windshield does have a star in it. The exterior shows no rust, however there is rust under the battery tray area, two dime sized holes in the spare tire well, and two areas on the cowl near the windshield about two inches long which have bubbled up. All other points of interest are rust free, including floorboards, control arm mounting points, and spare tire area. Paint is in fair to good condition, and there are two small creases in the body that I could not get to show up in photos. It has 90,000 miles.

Listed on eBay in May of 2008: 1V77E5U265654. Ok here we go. I have in my possession a 1976 Cosworth Vega that has not been licensed since 1993. I purchased this car in northwest Montana and it had been in storage on blocks for several years. The original engine unfortunately is long gone. There is a 4-speed trans in the car with bell housing. The car has been set up for a small block Chevy and the mounts appear to be there as well as a set of manifolds. The rear end is supposed to be 4.11 gears with an extra set of 2.80 gears in the box on the floor board. All the original wheels are there with what appear to be very low miles on the tires. Dash plaque # is 1748. This car is virtually rust free. I have found a little rust on the radiator support and on the hood where it was cut out for some reason underneath. (See pics). Floors appear to be very clean from underneath. Outside body is exceptional as far as no rust!!!!! There are however some dents on the right door and quarter that will require some work but very fixable. Key cylinder locked up on me when I got home with the car so will try to get it repaired so I can get it on a hoist to take underbody pictures if needed. Please feel free to email or preferably call with any questions. 1-605-440-0780 or 1-605-673-4779, ask for Sheldon. This car is for sale so don’t hesitate to make an offer. Trades welcome. (GM muscle cars or ATV of some sort possible.) Located in Custer, South Dakota. Black/ Black Vinyl

Stuart's dash # 1752 has been off road since 1998. We will likely meet up before the end of the year.
He wants to convert 4 to 5 speed and upgrade the brake system. It's been in his family since 1976.
I recalled his name and he confirmed he has been a member in the past...so I welcomed him back to the CVOA.

This car was owned by Jon Gothing of Jamaica Plains, MA. He was the second owner, having purchased it in 1996. It had been repainted by the previous owner. It is a white interior car with an aftermarket radio and a rear window defogger. He put in new fuel pumps, new radiator, had the gas tank “cored”, installed new shocks, stock Vega wheels and new tires, and installed a rebuilt starter. A stone broke the windshield and damaged the upper chrome piece, and the car stopped running shortly after that. The problem was the main feed wire to the engine compartment side of the fuse block connector which had broken inside the insulation, cutting off all power to the car. Jon offered it “free” to anyone who would give it a good home. Mark Rock was the first to respond and he received the car. The price of the car with some additional parts turned out to be $350.
Upon close inspection the following needed attention:
Diagnose and repair the power failure
Restore the battery tray area.
Replace the windshield and molding.
Make the radio work
Remove all the interior pieces and spray them with a white plastic/vinyl dye. Perhaps even do the seats as well. I did the plastic in #3387 and the results were outstanding.
Repair the rust around the right rear taillight.
Repair the connectors for the rear window defogger
Remove the Pulse Air tubes remnant
Clean the engine.
Refinish the cam cover
Lower the idle speed
Install a hood pad, either a used but serviceable hood pad from #3387 once I receive my new ones, or a "universal" GM blanket.
With just those items, the car will be in far better shape. It will still need the following:
Stripes
Touch ups on the body/paint
Valve lash adjustment [done—cam carrier had come loose!]
Underhood light R&R
Clutch cable, or more likely, the transmission removed and a new throwout bearing installed and PROPERLY lubricated--that is what is likely causing the stiff clutch pedal.[done}
A set of refinished Cosworth wheels
Hood blanket {done—used}
These are just the things off the top of my head. There are undoubtedly more items that I will find, and some that I have overlooked, in making these lists. Mark Rock

Dick Baumhauer bought a rebuilt engine on eBay in the late summer of 2012. According to his Yahoo post #26287, "The VIN stamped on the starter ring is 1V77E5U265961. We don't have it in the registry but we do have 265888 which is dash #1757 so this engine is probably out of #1759. Dick." He added, "Saw an ad for this engine on eBay a couple of months ago. It was advertised as an unused fresh rebuild. The person I bought it from said it was found in a New England race engine builders shop that had been closed. So I took a chance that it was possibly a race prepared engine. After I brought it home I took it apart to see what I had. Turns out it is basically a stock engine, parts were all clean, still lots of evidence of assembly lube throughout out, nice cross hatch pattern on the new thick walled sleeves. It has new rod and main bearings, new rings, new valve job, new cap & rotor, new cam and distributor belts. From measuring the piston to the top of the bores they are slightly higher than stock so the compression ratio may be a little more than stock. I put a good used flywheel and pressure plate on it along with a new clutch disc. There are no EFI sensors. Since I have a good street engine, I wanted to make sure this new one ran well before selling it. I put it in my car and drove it a total of 35 miles over 4-5 days. Just pulled it back out to take pictures. Anyone interested? Here's the Craigslist ad: http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/pts/3265253345.html Dick

Parts listed in Jan 2010 on eBay. Seller emailed: Dash# 1761. VIN# 1V77E5U265990. I would be interested in selling the car. It has no motor, tranny or rear. I have an extra block and a lot of extra parts. The interior is in real good condition and so is the exterior. I found a machine that I would want to purchase for my machine shop. Interested? Pete.” Later that day seller posted car for sale on eBay: COSWORTH VEGA, 1975; BODY AND INTERIOR IS IN GOOD SHAPE; 2 NEW TIRES, FRONT DRIVERS SIDE AND FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. SELLER HAS GOOD CLEAR TITLE; LOW MILEAGE, 404714 ON ODOMETER; CAR HAS NO MOTOR, TRANSMISION OR REAR (ITEMS WERE RECENTLY REMOVED AND SOLD); THE COSWORTH CAN BE MADE INTO A GREAT RACE CAR! PARTS IN THE BACK SEAT ARE FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THEY WERE REMOVED TO REMOVE THE MOTOR WHEN SOLD. THEY COME WITH THE SALE OF THE CAR, ALONG WITH THE FRONT BUMPER AND ASSORTED USED ORIGINAL PARTS; BUYER IS TO PICKUP THE CAR, SELLER WILL NOT SHIP AND NO INTERNATIONAL BUYERS. SELLER CAN HELP ARRANGE FOR A ROLLBACK TO TRANSPORT THE CAR USING A LOCAL TOW COMPANY WHERE BUYER PAYS FOR THE SERVICE. It did not sell.
In February seller began listing individual parts on eBay—the dash, white front seats and door panels, etc. He was asking $315 for the dash! Since he is parting it out, this car is being listed as RIP.
