I've been driving #2196 as often as our rapidly-cooling Autumn weather will permit, and with leaves in our area approaching peak color, grabbed a few shots this afternoon. Enjoy! es

I bought #2196 with the intent of enjoying it a couple years, and it's now time to (reluctantly) move it on as I'm retiring at the end of the year and we're downsizing out of State to be closer to grandkids. Sold new in Terre Haute, IN, this car passed to its second owner in that area before being purchased by the third owner in 1987, who eventually relocated to Rockford, IL. The car underwent a bare shell restoration in 1999, including a full engine rebuild, and accumulated about 6,000 miles under his ownership. I am the fourth owner as of 2018 and mostly returned the car to its ex-factory appearance with exception of engine and suspension mods. I've put about 2,800 miles on it (indicated - the speedo/odo is about 15% fast due to the 4.10 rear axle). Paint presents well from ten feet, but blemishes are evident here and there. Engine, Drivetrain & Suspension: · Rods polished and ARP bolts · .030 over 9.5 to 1 forged pistons · Sleeved block · cylinder head refurbished · Assembly balanced  · Total Seal rings · Converted to 42 DCOE Webers  · 2 1/4” exhaust with 2 chamber Flowmaster  · 4 speed (original from factory) · 4:10 posi rear (upgraded from factory 3.73 gearing) · IECO lowering springs · Bielstien shocks · Flaming river quick ratio steering box · Hurst shifter · Repro GM chin and tailgate spoilers Two sets of wheels/tires come with the car: (5) gold CV wheels with 1 year old BF Goodrich tires (original Goodyear factory spare) and (4) black-painted CV wheels with an older set of Hankook track tires. I will also include if desired a set of (4) four Firestone white-letter tires that were on the gold wheels when I bought the car (very low wear, but replaced due to age). Also included are the original springs, steering box, FI system, racing harness mounting bar, and period ads, magazine articles, shop manuals, etc. (the 71VEGA plate is from my first car and is not included, nor is the DeLorean book. There's more than what's shown in the pic, tho). The only repair I've had to make during my ownership was to replace the starter solenoid and rotate the driveshaft u-joints 180° to remove a driveline imbalance. The (original) radio does not work, and I disconnected the clock to prevent it draining the battery. Always parked/stored inside. Starts easy cold or hot and revs smoothly. I had my local shop fabricate a dual-tip exhaust (like the '75 CV would have), and the car has a delicious, crisp and raspy exhaust note. I've priced it well below what I have in it (including what I spent on tires, etc.) in hopes of moving it along before Winter. Can deliver within an hour or two of Peoria, IL for an extra fee. This is a CV you can enjoy driving, whether to Cars & Coffee (be prepared for a constant crowd) or at your local autocross. It's very comfortable running at interstate speeds, although it will be screaming! I can be contacted at ed@peachtreeprairie.com or 309.678.8080 (txts ok). Ed

Had an absolute blast at our local autox yesterday. Rainy during the morning and spitting rain in the afternoon, but the track was mostly dried out by then, which helped times. The car was fantastic and got numerous complements - a crowd gathered as soon as I popped the hood for cool-down. Got 7 runs in and dropped from 62.8 to 53.3 seconds on the last one. I just kept pushing harder and it kept wanting more (Joe L. did a great job with the car's setup)! Best raw time for the day was 42.2 sec for a Brunton Stalker. Worst was 61.6 sec for a prepped Mustang (older gentleman driving), so I felt I did okay for my first time in the car (and I’m not really competitive as a driver). I went a bit over redline on the straightaway (look at the tach!) - was really trusting Joe's engine build! 😁 I have a whole new level of respect for the car now. Unfortunately, this will be the only track event for me this year. Driving our straight and flat Middle Western roads to C&C just won't be the same! And I'll finish with a throwback photo from around 1985 that I shot in the Road Atlanta infield, just because it makes a good bookend. es

I've now owned #2196 for a year (Hagerty just came knocking), and due to all the rain we've had in the Middle West this year, it didn't come out of hibernation until our Cars & Coffee event in April. I drive the car to work a couple times a month (weather permitting), and in mid-May, started having a hung starter solenoid every so often. The first time it happened, the starter hung in the engaged position after starting the engine, which caused a bit of consternation as I scrambled for a wrench to pull the battery terminal before something fried! After having to whack the solenoid a couple times to get started, it finally died for good at work, where obliging coworkers gave me a push start so I could get home. AutoZone had the replacement part on the shelf, and I thought, "an hour, tops," to replace it. Unfortunately, one of the small bolts rounded off, necessitating pulling the whole starter (which necessitated removing the air filter from the Webers). The bolt head was too far gone even for vice grips, so out came the Mig welder and a spare nut on top of the remains of the bolt head. Five minutes later, it was off. In the process of replacing the starter, I noticed the Webers moved a bit when I was tugging the air filter housing off, and investigation revealed six of the eight nuts holding them to the manifold were loose, so they got tightened up. I also installed a battery cut-out. The car now starts much easier! Finally, I took the car to a local muffler shop and had him fab up a copy of a 1975 dual exhaust tip to replace the 'Trans Am' style tip that was on the car when I bought it. Now that the exhaust is directed out the side, it actually sounds nicer and isn't as droney. I'm looking forward to my first autox with the car in a couple weeks. es

Just driving to work, but couldn't pass up a photo op with a '79 'Vette. A coworker/autox buddy owns the Mini (Honda-powered). Before someone comments, the front plate on my car is actually from my '71 Vega that I've saved all these years. My new Antique plates arrived yesterday, so the old plate will go with the other display items I set up at shows. Ed

Someone on another car forum that knows I have a CV said they'd seen a stash of Vegas, at least some of which were CVs, in Fullerton, CA. Anyone here? Looks like a dozen or more cars!

#2196 had a non-GT dash pad replacement somewhere in its history (no grab handle). I've scoured eBay and CL, but haven't found anything. Anyone know of a source, either for decent used, or repro? Thanks!

My brother texted me this photo of a '76 CV being recovered (hopefully for a rebuild!) somewhere in Alabama last week. es

After watching the CV market for several years, things finally aligned and I purchased #2196 from Joe Lanthrop last weekend. My first car was a '71 Notchback 4 speed base model, into which I swapped a sleeved engine with headers and a GT cam at around 80K miles. Toward the end of college, I replaced that engine (still going strong) with a Buick 3.8L and THM350. The car had over 200K miles on it when I finally used it as a trade-in on my first new car (Suzuki Samauri). I've wanted a CV for quite some time, and it's already been to one Cars & Coffee here in Peoria, where there was a constant crowd around it. My daily driver is a 2017 Chevrolet SS (neé Holden Commodore SS-V Redline), another "rare" Chevy.
