Concours Judging possible changes
Hello Members,
John Jr. and I have been working on some draft documents to update/change our Concours Judging at our Roundups. We are soliciting comments and discussion about what we have come up with. Below is some background information and details. On this post you will find the 5 PDF documents that you should be able to download and view. Let me know if you cannot view them and I will find a way to share them with you.
I was a Concours Judge at the Lincoln Roundup in 2018 (1 of several). After that day of Judging, many members and John Jr. had a vibrant conversation about Concours Classes and Judging. I was also asked to be a Judge at the Kansas City Roundup in 2020, and happily said yes.
After these two experiences, I was concerned with the complexity of our Concours Rules and Judging Sheets. I identified several issues with our Judging Sheets as it related to using the same document across Classes. It was needlessly difficult to Judge the cars, trying to apply the SET Rules/Guidelines.
John Jr. and I have had many discussions over the last 4-5 months. My main focus going into this endeavor has been to simplify the Classes/Guidelines and also to simplify the score sheets so they could be used across Classes in a more logical manner. Our current Guidelines document is 14 pages long and I would guess that few of our members have read and comprehended it fully (to be honest, I had not until after the KC Roundup). Our current scoresheet is 4 pages long and did not work well across Classes when judging.
John Jr. has asked that I share the documents that we have drafted together. I am pretty proud of what we have put together. We would like to have an open discussion to see what our member’s thoughts are. These documents will also be shared on our Facebook page.
There are a total of 5 proposed documents (proposed to replace our current documents)
Classes and Guidelines- 1 page
Dash Document- 1 page
Score Sheets- 2 pages
Judge training document- 1 page
We are looking forward to an open, constructive conversation. Thanks to all of you.
