posted a message a little while ago regarding Dave Elliott's Cosworth collection. Here are the pics I took the other evening. He also had a storage unit with some Monza/Vega parts like interior pieces, rear ends, a tranny or 2 and I believe an extra Cosworth engine. The Firethorn Vega has been parked inside for a long time and the interior shows it. It was purchased from a small used car lot in the 80s from Chicago while Dave was attending a Cosworth Convention up North. He drove it home and ran it around for a few years. I want to say the reason he stopped driving it regularly was because of a valve cover leak or some other oil leak he was battling. He's OCD and couldn't stand to have a leak so he only started it and drove it occasionally. The last time I saw it started was probably ariund 2010 or so. We pulled the wheels and tires off of it to put on the wagon maybe 10 years ago or so. The black car doesn't have the drivetrain in it but it's in the garage. I believe he bought it from a college student 30 years or so ago not running. It is a TX car and aside from some surface rust I do not see anything significant. The wagon was a car he bought that used to be pristine but sat out for a long time but he intended on putting a Cosworth engine in it. He wanted it to be his daily driver but lile everything else, never got around to it. 3k and you take it all. He prefers that they go to a club member or someone who will use them and not scrap them or part them out. I understand that promises cannot be made like that BUT if anything is said about the cars going over scales or getting parted out, they will not be sold to you. Anyways, if you have any questions feel free to ask. Again, to reiterate, you must take it all. So if you ask what the price of a rear view mirror is, I'm going to say 3k and the rest is free.

Shawn Parsons
Hi John! Hi Shawn!
Thank you for the introduction! I will definitely keep your emails handy in case I do end up having questions. I'm an engineer and have a passion for cars so I can work my way around cars fairly easily, but if there are Cosworth Vega intricacies that trip me up, I'll definitely reach out.
It is #2467. I'll get some pictures up on the site once I get over to the shop later this week. It's been in our family since 2004. We pulled it from a field and was told it had mechanical issues of some type (maybe engine, maybe transmission). I was fairly young at the time so didn't know too many details. It was meant to be my first car, but time passed, priorities changed, and it has sat in the garage ever since. At least we have kept it out of the weather!
It has roughly 80,000 miles on it and there is a receipt for a paint touch-up kit from 1997, so my guess is that it was running up until around 2000 then it was parked. My family found it only a few years after that. It has been kept in the Tulsa area its whole life, and is fairly rust free, so I'm guessing most work needed to get it running will end up being mechanical. I have the Cosworth Vega overhaul supplement so I will let that guide me as I go.
First step is to get a new timing belt and do a compression test. So I'll try to get that ordered soon. My goal is to document my work as I go. I'll get started properly later this year once the weather becomes more reasonable.

According to a July 1, 2010 Yahoo post from Brian, “I'd like to update you on CV 2649 It has been disassembled and parted out.” One of the three “Tornado” Cars – Cowalls parted it out in 2010.

According to a Yahoo(9/12/2007) post by John Cowall, “I am trying to fire up a CV after 15 years of storage. It was
stored in a barn and only has 11000 miles, should be easy right? Not so far. My point is, if you intend to
store these cars, do it right! ry storage, climate control, etc. So far, I have already had to change the
starter, numerous hoses, and the car still has not fired up! Another thing to remember when storing is
Fogging oil. Long term storage can do damage to cylinders without any preservation. If all goes well, CV
2649 may be revived and restored, but if the block goes so does the car! (P.S. for those interested, this is
one of the Michigan Tornado Cars). Anyway, a car with 11000 miles should start up. DAMN! But hey, it
gives me something to do these days. Just remember, storing doesn't mean parking! John J. Cowall

According to an email from Mike Reed, I own three Cosworth Vegas. All three were stored in a barn in
Michigan that was destroyed by a tornado on Friday, August 24, 2007. The insurance company has totaled all
three vehicles. However, there are a lot of parts in these cars that are in perfect condition. Engines,
entire drive lines, bumpers, wheels, interiors, dashes, hoods, etc. I am trying to contact someone with
an interest in Cosworth Vegas who knows of a person or business who might be interested in purchasing
these vehicles from the insurance company for parts. I have been unable to locate any of the officers or
personnel associated with the Cosworth Vega Owners Association. I'm hoping you can steer me to
appropriate e‐mail addresses and/or phone numbers. It would be a shame to see all these parts get lost
along the line somewhere. One of them is #1469. It has approximately 9,000 original miles (black/black,
4‐speed, never seen rain or snow). The car was only in need of tires, some cleanup and starting before
the storm

Talked to Andy. Restoration never started due to family issues. The car has deteriorated to point it is probably not restoreable. It has no engine and might be a good candidate for a drag car. Otherwise will be used as a parts car for his primary Cosworth. JD Smith
