Paul Csabon’s race car.

Who posted pictures of Paul Csabon's #2523 racecar on the CVOA website? I think that was my dad's old racecar from the early 1990’s. When my dad raced, the car was all white and number 16. If I remember correctly the motor in that car is from CV #0848 and the body is from Bob Quindazzi. It also had the sunroof option. If anyone has information on this car, I'd love to hear it. Chris Long

My dad's friend used to autocross #0848 with my dad in NY. I remember he used to win all the time in a stock CV. #0848 spun a bearing at Lime Rock Park, and then my dad got the car. He was going to make #0848 a racecar, but there was too much rust. My dad bought an engineless CV, #2523, from Bob Quindazzi. Quindazzi built that motor and used it in his Run-Off winning GT3 car that I've seen a few pictures of. But #0848 was used for all its worth and was crushed in VA. We then moved to NC and sold #2523 to a plumber in FL in 1995. My dad think it's Paul Csabon, but is not positive. ~CHRIS

Chris, yes Cosworth #2523 is the Cosworth that was raced by Bob Quindazzi that he sold to your dad and is now owned and raced by Paul Csabon. Paul wrote a nice article about his racing experiences. It was in the 3rd quarter 1998 CVOA magazine. I have talked with him a few times and he had sent me the pictures that now show up on the CVOA web page. As of a few months ago, he still has the car and still races it. Chris W.

According to Yahoo! Message 981, Gerry Cross owns the body of this car. The engine is “gone”.

There is an ECU for sale on eBay right now (January, 2013). The seller bought the car less engine and trans. The number on the ECU is 2526. I wrote him asking for the dash and VIN. He wrote back that the dash is also #2526. Anyone else run into this? Most of the rest I have seen the ECU is usually 100-200 more than the dash. This is the first time I have heard this. Dick

Oct 2023 Craigslist Ad – Phoenix, AZ 1 602 790 7153 Brad Erickson
1976 Cosworth Possibly #2528
Comes with another rebuildable Cosworth engines. 5 speed Borg Warner T50 transmission. Dealer installed AC and Power Steering. Interior almost complete. Glass is good. Replacement body panels and grille for damaged areas. Rear window louvers. Some new parts. Dealer converted to Astre some time in the past - rear taillights and front grille and gold Trans Am steering wheel and wheels. The paint on the doors and fenders in the pictures make it look like damage, but it is not.
Brad gave me the VIN# as ( VIN 1V7706U176318 ) This is not listed on the Web Site as a known Cosworth VIN. However, Dash #2528 does have a VIN of 1V7706U176319 so this is likely a misread of a VIN “…9” as a “…8”.

In 2011 this car is owned by Edwin and Bonnie May of Milan PA. Ed says this car belonged to his brother John, who was killed. His sister-in-law gave it to him, and he rushed up to get it, knowing that if he didn't, it would disappear. He says his brother had three other Cosworths, but he has no idea what happened to them. Ed says he wanted one of these cars when they first came out, but was only earning $2.35 an hour as an Airman 1st Class, so he couldn't afford one. The car was sold by a dealer in Troy, PA. John was the second owner of the car. Ed has the paperwork. It is a black/black vinyl, 5-speed, AM only car. No swingouts. It has a "new" radiator.

I bought it from the original owner in 1982. It's got 70k (or so) miles and has always been a trouble-free car. I've kept up on the cosmetic stuff so it looks almost new.

Appeared again on eBay at the end of November, 2005 with the following description: “1976 Cosworth Vega #2543.fuel injected twin cam 5-speed. These cars are getting more valuable by the day. They only made just over 3500 Cosworths in 1975 and 1976. A few years down the road these cars are going to be the next hemi Cudas. If I had the money to hold on to it till then I would. Ok here is the history of the car as far back as I know. A local PPG certified body shop owner had this car for many years. He stripped the car down and rebuilt it from the ground up. The original color was black. I believe but he changed it to what PPG calls rainbow. The paint changes from blue to green to a little shade of purple. Five years ago this car won best in class and best paint at the Syracuse car show. He then sold it and for the last two years it has been sitting under a cover only driven in the summer for maybe 500 miles. I just picked it up from a friend of a friend who told me about the car. The interior is near perfect and just needs a little cleaning and touch up on the dash and rear sail panels. One of the wheels is missing the center cap and the rear hatch shocks don’t hold up the hatch. Now for the outside, there are a few spots were the paint has started to bubble, nothing major. The worst part of the car is the lower front rear quarter on the passenger side. You can see it in the pictures. I brought it back to the guy who painted it originally and he said it would cost anywhere from $500 to $1000 to fix all those spots. I was going to have him do it but he is backed up for months. By touching up those spots and a little cleaning here and there this car would be right back to show condition. The valvetrain in the motor sounds loud to me but I talked to the local engine shop and emailed many Cosworth owners and they said that is normal. All the Cosworth twin cam engines have valve train noise. I would consider partial snowmobile and cash deals so email me at gdechick32@yahoo.com. I am listing this with no reserve so high bid wins. Don’t get me wrong about the small paint blemishes. You can tell by the pics that this car is more than ready to drive the way it is and probably win shows in this condition. I am just saying to make this car almost flawless it would need those small spots touched up.” The VIN is 177086 and the car has 72,312 miles.

In June of 2002 this car was listed for sale on eBay by an owner in Weedsport, NY. His ad text is, “This is a rare 1976 Cosworth Vega only 3500 made and this is number 2543. This has the stock Cosworth racing motor under the hood, 4 cylinders, 16v DOHC 5-speed, fuel injection, posi rear end, perfect condition. This car was restored completely about 4 years ago and hardly driven at all, always garage kept, maybe 200 miles on a completely rebuilt motor. The exterior of this car is perfect, when redone it was striped to bare metal and the paint that was applied is extreme paint from BASF; the name is RM Ocean. This paint turns colors in the light it turns between greens blues purples and others. The paint job is perfect... The interior is great all carpet brand new only minor wear in front seats little on driver side and passenger.... This car is beautiful and is as perfect as can be...only thing missing off this car is a little center cap on one of the wheels (while driving came off and never found it) other than that minor thing this car is brand new. This car came from Texas in 1983. It never ever saw a winter. 70,000 original miles. Everything totally brand new and original. Even the original tire and jack had never been used!!” Bidding is to start at $4,000.00.
