According to a September 2013 message from Dave Dempsey, the owner wrote him: I have owned a 1975 Cosworth Vega that I purchased at an estate sale. The car I purchased was the owners every day driver. He was well into Vegas and had several ones that he raced. With the car I received boxes of parts, some NOS and some used. There was two fuel injection units, one stock and one for racing. A while back I sold the car and had forgotten about the boxes of parts. Doing a garage clean up I came across the parts." David then added, "After reading this message. I don't think he will have any more information about the car. I will email him back and ask. If I find out anything new I will let you know. Not sure what car the white sun visors came from. Just came with the parts I bought. I guess you could list it as RIP?? The parts came out of Maywood NJ." The dash says 43k miles. David

CV #2550 – Black/ Black Cloth 5 speed- Former owner Kevin Spears. Bought in 2002/2003. Was painted by Bernie Ellery. Car was missing engine and 5 speed when we bought it, not much of an interior left in it as well. Car was rusty, but we tried to bring it back to life. Had a decent black interior that I had got with the purchase of CV #0881, used that. New carpet installed. Put lots of fiberglass on the undercarriage to try and keep it from rusting out. Also, before I had bought the car, I had bought the engine and trans from Kevin Spears for this car a year or two before actually buying the car. Kevin planned to put a V-8 in it, scrapped the idea, and eventually sold us the car for $400 (I think this was the price, it was pretty cheap). Bernie painted the car, JC and I installed the engine and trans from the car back into it, put in a decent interior, and drove it for few months. The engine spun a bearing, and we decided to scrap the car. We parted it out, and someone from Minnesota drove down and took the shell, that was in 2004 or 2005. (Cowall Owned 2002-2005)

June 2004: I am looking to sell #2550, black, black cloth, body was repainted two years ago, and undercarriage has extensive Bondo and fiberglass work done to it. Interior is in real nice shape, has an aftermarket CD player and 4 speakers. Rear end is a 4.11 non-positraction. Has 5 non-restored 76' CV rims. Car was driven as a daily driver for a few months. Does not have an engine or transmission. The engine lost compression in two cylinders. I will sell the car as is with no trans and engine for $600.00. I will sell a good 5 speed and give the blown engine with the car for a grand total of $800.00. John Cowall
According to a March 20, 2008 reply, Hi Mark, This car is either RIP or in a field waiting to be cut up in Minnesota I believe. The interior that was in it went in to Mr. Orange #3024 that was at the Canton Round-Up. The engine broke a rod and and broke the block. I still have the 5 speed, the engine bits were sold on e-bay over the fall. I sold it in 2004 to a gentleman who drove down and towed it away to Wisconsin or Minnesota. I do not recall the guy's name but he was a member in the CVOA. He was going to use it for miscellaneous parts. The car had an amateur paint job on an amateur body work prep job. It was rough! There were a few good parts, like the interior plastic, but had aftermarket speakers cut into it and such. No carpet or seats though. There was Extensive Rust underneath, not much of a spare wheel well, etc. We Bondoed and fiberglassed it, and I drove it for about 6 months until the engine let go. My dad and I ended up putting Way too much work in the car for what was left. Long story short, the car was sold for pieces to be cut up. Sad ending, but this car had seen MUCH better days before we got it! Any questions let me know, I don't think I have any pictures of the car though, sadly... Talk to you Later, John J. Cowall

Sold to Richard Bastardi in early 2007.
This was another Mike Price car in Telford, PA, according to CVM

It came into the possession of Richard Bastardi of the Bronx, probably from Gerry Cross. This is the car featured in Auto Restorer magazine. In the summer of 2011 Richard sold it to a fellow in PA for $ 15,000. A few months later, in September of 2011, it appeared on eBay for a buy-it-now price of $29,900. It was being sold by a large classic car dealer in Charlotte. According to the listing:

When many of us think of the seventies, we're reminded of government regulation, scarce fuel and poor performing cars. Despite the general consensus that everything coming out of Detroit was a gaudy stripes package, the 1975 -76 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega was a formidable performance machine that could be considered a forerunner for today's wave of compact performance cars. This award winning and magazine featured 1976 Cosworth is one of 1,447 cars produced for the '76 model year, has only 2,154 actual miles, and has all of the rare and difficult to find Cosworth Vega parts right where the factory installed them. This is undoubtedly the finest 1976 Cosworth Vega in existence.

Finished in the Cosworth Vega's traditional black acrylic lacquer paint and featuring traditional gold pinstripping and "Cosworth Twin Cam" lettering, CV number 2551 is every bit as clean as when it left the showroom floor. It has remained an all original, non-repaired car thanks in small part to anti-rust improvements introduced by GM for the 1976 model year, and in large part to immaculate maintenance and care given by loving owners throughout its life. Up front, the new, wider for 1976 grille is trimmed in stainless and hides original marker lights that look like they're straight out of the box. At either side of the grille, like-new round headlights are housed in flat black headlight buckets that are trimmed in chrome. Below the grille, an original free standing bumper is well integrated into the design of the car, shows a nice 70s era patina and wears protective black trim and bumper guards. Above the grille, a unique red blue and silver "Vega" header panel emblem appears to be original equipment and leads your eye to the cars bulged hood which features spear like gold pin stripping. Original factory tinted glass sits behind 1976 Cosworth exclusive black windshield wipers and is framed by a combination of excellent looking ridged stainless trim and chrome drip rails. At the sides of the car, the simplistic black 70s body is decorated with curved gold pin stripes around each of the wheel openings and straight gold pin stripes that run down the sides of the car and incorporate the words "Cosworth Twin Cam" on the front fenders. Louvers behind the rear windows and body colored sport mirrors add a sense of sportiness to the green house of the car, and square chrome handles with body matched inserts combine with clear square marker lights to add a little flash to the smooth profile. At the back of the car, a concave rear valence houses new for 1976 tri-color tail lights and features a gold pinstripe from top to bottom. On the left side of the tag bracket, "Cosworth Twin Cam" is displayed in gold, and on the right side of the tag bracket, a chrome "Vega by Chevrolet" emblem shines like new. Below the rear valence, another free standing chrome rear bumper displays matching 70s patina and is protected by black trim.

Flip up the hood and check out the cars original limited production twin-cam engine with an aluminum block designed by Chevrolet and 16 valve aluminum cylinder heads developed by Cosworth Engineering of England. With 260 horsepower and a 7,000 RPM redline, the Cosworth Vega was one of the hottest performing cars available in 1976 and featured a hand-built mill from GM's Tonawanda engine plant that was individually signed by its builder on a sticker that occupies the cam cover. Measuring 122 cubic inches, this DOHC inline-four features sturdy forged aluminum pistons, a heat-treated forged steel crankshaft and forged connecting rods that both reveal the engines racing ancestry and assure high performance durability. To meet ever increasing US emissions standards, a custom designed stainless steel exhaust header and Bendix electronic fuel injection with pulse-time manifold injection, four injector valves, an electronic control unit (ECU), five independent sensors and two fuel pumps were installed. Thanks to this revolutionary engine, the Vega was the first Chevrolet car to feature electronic fuel injection which warranted an HEI distributor for increased spark and a heavy duty radiator for increased cooling. Under this car's hood you'll find a completely correct engine that looks as good as the day it left the showroom. Everything is here, everything is as new and I'd venture to say that the motor has never been fully disassembled. In fact, the car even has its original factory smog system!

Underneath the car, an original Borg Warner T10 5-speed overdrive transmission, which is exclusive to the '76 Cosworth Vega sends power to an original 10 bolt rear axle with '76 Cosworth Vega exclusive 4.10 gears. Around that sports car drivetrain, a correct factory Cosworth Vega performance package includes a 'torque arm' rear suspension for optimum rear axle power control, provisions for the Vega's "fast Steer" option, Vega GT springs, Vega GT shocks large rear stabilizer bars. Exhaust is handled by a single pipe system that is exclusive to the '76 Cosworth Vega and snakes along the bottom of the car to exit past the rear axle. Finished in satin black with a small amount of weather beating undercoating, the bottom of the car is exceptionally clean and features correct paint markings, correct tags on the coil springs, stainless fuel and brake lines and a new stainless fuel tank. At each corner of the car, 13 inch British-made, gold-painted cast aluminum wheels carry Chevy center caps with black bowties and feature machined lips and chrome lug nuts. Mounted to those wheels is 195/70 Dunlop performance radials.

Like most Cosworth Vegas, this car has the all business and no compromises black vinyl interior. The bucket seats are restoration fresh and nicely match the warp free black dash. Inside the dash, a gold 'engine-turned' dash bezel houses a Cosworth exclusive 8,000 RPM tachometer, a 120 MPH speedometer, gauges for the engines vitals and a gold-plated dash plaque with the cars 2551 build sequence number. Below those gauges, a factory Delco radio supplies the tunes, and in front of the dash, a black tilt steering wheel holds a blue Cosworth Vega steering wheel emblem. The booted shifter for the T10 transmission springs up from like-new carpet and the headliner is tight and dark. The door panels are as good as new trimmed in attractive stainless and chrome handles for the doors and windows and as expected, the hatch is completely spotless with matching black carpet and black plastic side panels.

Documentation for this car includes a copy of the magazine in which the car was featured, a Cosworth Vega Owners Association newsletter that includes an interview with one of the former owners of the car, a copy of Cosworth Vega magazine, an original owner's manual, a factory brochure, and correct warranty information and maintenance guides.

When introduced in 1975, the Cosworth Vega was an exotic for the common man. It was a road ready, all American Chevrolet shell that had been infused with proven European racing technology to produce a rare bright spot in a decade of mostly bland cars. This all original, award winning 1976 Cosworth Vega is the nicest example of underappreciated, rare cars on earth and is the right one for a serious Chevrolet collector. Call today! RK Motors, LLC, 704-596-5211.

According to Gerry Cross: "the seller is not explaining that the car is an accident repair of a higher mileage CV, the seller does seem to want to give the impression that this is a low mileage original. Nothing could be further from the truth in the description, down to the "black acrylic lacquer" finish. The car has a fantastic Sikkens base coat/clear coat finish. Nonetheless, it is a fabulous car and it is a testament to the extraordinary skill and craftsmanship of its second owner. It is perhaps worth the asking price as a work of art and skill and a rare Chevrolet model restored over by a mile. A well heeled owner would have a great example of a CV.

Was this the Car Mike Price (over) restored many years ago that was at the Pittsburgh Roundup? My clue is the Power Brake Booster on the car and if memory serves me correctly the car was severely damaged with the left front head light pushed back to the firewall. Mike did a fantastic job of rebuilding and restoring the car. I do believe the mileage is suspect. Later. Tim

Tim: the car is 2551, and Mike is the second owner who did the work. The whole story of the car is contained in the Auto Restorer article. That issue of the magazine is readily available on eBay and provides the full story of the car, including the accident and restoration. In addition to power brakes, the car has vacuum advance, powder coated wheels, as many NOS parts as were available, tilt wheel, Monza brakes, digital clock, NOS gas tank, SS brake and fuel lines, correct reproduction of all recorded factory production markings, new carpets, NOS dash bezel, all new suspension items, and so on.. The engine was fully disassembled and rebuilt and runs like a dream. Dave Dempsey's current car is the equal of this car (2551)and Dave might smile if this car sells for $29,000. Gerry

Hi Dick et al- #2551- yes this was the Mike Price restoration years ago; sold to Gerry Cross & then to me in 2006-2007?.I was fortunate & proud to own the car for the last 4- 5 years and recently sold it a month ago to a fellow that sold me a 67 Firebird 400. When he saw the car in my garage, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse and now it seems that he sold it or is selling it thru a dealer in North Carolina at a huge markup. As Gerry states in his emails, the car was near perfect top to bottom and inside out . thanks. I will sure be tracking this on eBay to see what the top bid brings. Richie B

Formerly the car of Mike Price, who did the following work: #2551 was severely damaged in a collision in 1989. It was purchased from the insurance company and underwent a complete tear down. The damage was repaired with all NOS parts and body panels. A deep clear coat base coat re-paint followed, each piece removed from the auto, painted and replaced to maintain a standard of zero paint lines. During the disassembly any production markings and labels were documented and reproduced if unavailable from suppliers. The result was a better than new construction quality, and is evident in the ride and handling of this Cosworth. Gerry

I can remember when Mike Price had #2551 at the Pittsburgh roundup. This is the only Cosworth that has out score #2995 in a concours event in the 8 roundups that #2995 has been at. That is saying a lot about #2551 this car was clean in and out and all the small hardware was detail out nicely. I have a few items on my Cosworth that Mike had did for me as you can see from his car. I don't have the stainless gas tank, but I did have mine nickel plated. I do have a set of powder coated wheel on my Cosworth that Mike did and I'm thinking about selling them off if anyone is interested in them? I will be going with a set from Wheel Medic as I'm needing a new set of tires because of age as I do drive my Cosworth to the roundups. David

In September of 2006 Rob picked up this car. It is black/black vinyl and is awaiting the torch. Another one bites the dust. He posted, “man, when it rains it pours. Last night I bring in a 75 Cosworth and today I dragged home, # 2553, a 76 black/black vinyl, and here it sits awaiting the torch. Completely gone underneath, very very rusty. Run of the mill interior, not running, engine half disassembled etc. etc. Who is documenting these things so I can fill them in on what ones I’ve scrapped so far? If anyone needs any fuel injection setups let me know. Rob”

He later posted: The second one I picked up is #2553. It came from Altoona, PA and that owner bought it from a dealer in Ebensburg, PA. It doesn’t run and is completely shot underneath, 133 (probably) k. It is going to be scrapped as well. Just think, maybe these cars will climb in value after all. Once we all find and document all the parts cars maybe people will see how rare the running driving cars really are!! Thanks. Rob

Collectors Dream! 1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega, Serial #2561, VIN 1V77O6U177997. Black with gold stripes. The interior-is white and in good condition, the rugs are in excellent condition. Transmission is a 5-speed manual. The engine is an unsleeved 4-cylinder with double overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder. Original owner! Mileage-29,367. Original rims. This car is being sold AS IS! The car ran well until parked in my grandfathers garage and since then has not been started or the engine turned over for the last 10 years. This car is available for pick up only! It is located in Teaneck, New Jersey.

It then appeared again on eBay in October of 2005 and again in November of 2005 with this text: Original, unrestored Cosworth Vega, #2561. 5 speed manual trans, 4cyl dual overhead cam engine, with the engine signed. She is in beautiful unrestored original condition, found in a garage where she has been sitting for a while, she had brand new tires put on her and parked. Before she was started, engine was primed, gas drained, new plugs, rotor and cap, oil and filter changed. She started right up, and she does not smoke, she runs beautiful. The interior is in almost perfect shape. The exterior has a few very minor dings. Look at the pictures: this is unrestored, and original. Have original owners manual, odometer mileage statement, Chevrolet consumer information for 76 Vega, and warranty information for 1976 on 1976 Chevrolet new cars. It seems to be that this was a one owner car before we found her. We have the original title, no prefix, which indicates one owner. This car was not even sold until May 4th, 1978. The car had 12 miles at time of original purchase. This car was purchased from D & C Chevy located in Tenafly NJ.” The VIN is 1V77O6U177997. It has a white interior, a 5-speed, 29,367 miles, a Pioneer radio/cassette deck, and shiny pulse air tubes. The spare wheel is fugly, and the dash bezel appears to be corroded along the bottom edge. The car is located in Alpine, NJ.

Offered for sale in November of 2002: 1976 Cosworth Vega #2563. All original parts, wheels, and glass. No motor or transmission. RESTORABLE!!! $500.00 or best offer. Call (616)527-0453. No pics....sorry. Have to see. lynnb@ionia-mi.net

Hello, my name is Dan. I do still have the Vega. The production # is 2563. I will not put the VIN online. The car is all intact, it is black & gold, all the factory wheels are still on it too. I bought the car to build a V-8 Vega but have too many other projects going. I live in Ionia MI. It is in the garage collecting dust & using up valuable space. I need the room for a Monte Carlo project. I personally would like to see the car restored. I did locate its motor & trans, it can also be purchased cheap, I was told it is all in boxes. The car has the typical Vega rust spots, but is really not too bad of condition. I also have purchased a new windshield, which also goes with it. Not a real good typist, not my thing. I guess if you’re interested in seeing the car let me know. I plan on moving the car in the next couple of weeks to make room but have only had a dozen or so emails. My price is negotiable. I have money into the car but just want to see a serious Cosworth person get it to restore. If still here come spring it will be tubed & framed for some small block fun.
