I don’t think the auctioneer was smoking crack. This is the 3rd car I have seen recently that went for
way above top dollar. There was another one on Arizona that sold for $8000 with 50k on it and had lots
of faults not to mention another I saw that went for $6500. I think what were seeing is a general trend
of rising values. At least I hope so. It’s about time and hopefully the days of the $2500 and $3500
Cosworths are gone. Someday that’s what you'll be paying for a rolling chassis, I hope. Bruce

You've got to be kidding me............. I've seen other types of cars judged in the #2 ‐ #3 condition that
were far superior to my Cosworth. My Cos had 2 big dents in the hood, and approximately 30 ‐ 35 dings
and door dents all around the car. Not to mention the surface rust spot on the top of the hood about 2
inches in diameter that was hand painted over with a paint brush. And the ENTIRE engine compartment
was also hand painted with a paint brush. The underside of the hood (under the new mat) the firewall,
inner fenders and several engine components such as the steering box, master cylinder, air box, etc,
were all hand painted. Not professional looking at all. And several spots of the pin striping was either
missing or hand painted on with gold model paint. And a few rust bubbles on the bottom of the driver’s
door and behind the driver’s rear fender. Granted, overall it was a nice original car. 35K miles. I replaced
both bumpers with brand new ones, installed new carpet, had the interior panels refinished and had
NOS tires put on it. But even the wheels I spray painted myself with Krylon spray paint. And it was
chipping in several places. It leaked a lot of oil, and had a lot of surface rust on the undercarriage. No rot
through, but certainly not representative of a #2 show car. Either someone that had the car after me did
some extensive work on the car, including pulling the motor and completely sand blasting the engine
bay, door jams, and exterior, and did a full repaint and new stripe kit. Or the judge that looked at this car
was either half blind, in a huge hurry, or smoking crack. lol. Oh well, congrats to the new owner. Any
idea if it was a California buyer, or out of state? I would really like to see the car and see what's been
done to it since I had it, if anything. Mike

I saw in the auction results for this month's Hemmings Muscle Machines that the orange Cosworth with
the magnetic signs (Mike B's old one?). Went for $7000 at the McCormick Palm Springs Auction.
Hemmings commented that it was in #2 condition, and "only minor paint blemishes on the drivers side
kept it from being a #1 car". The last sentence in the blurb said "Owner instantly becomes a big fish in a
small pond". Interesting. Eric

Funny, because the dealership in WA that had it was hoping to get $5000 for it, but were "very willing"
to negotiate. I heard they would have sold it for $3000. Britt

In December of 2004 this car appeared in Southern California: Chequered Flag International, in Marina Del Ray, CA, has a 1976 CV for sale. They are asking $11,900 for the car. it is orange and tan. The car has some very large special decals on the doors and the hood. CFI says very little about the car and posts only one photo. Does anyone know the history of this car and the special decals it carries? What is the series #? The website for CFI is: www.chequeredflag.com . Then go to "View inventory". Ok, let me clear up the confusion. Mark, you were right, it is #2874. The slack-jaw I talked to at the dealership was in error. So that makes it Mike's old car. I know this because I spent a half an hour going through all the documentation that came with the car. It's pretty much all there, manuals, CVOA stuff, ownership history, almost everything you'd want to see except the original window sticker and build sheet. Car was originally from GA, then MI, then here in WA. Mike just did a bunch of work on the engine last summer, and if I'm not mistaken, he purchased and installed some of your re- indexed cam sprockets. Not to digress, but if that is true, I'm going to have to have a set. The motor pulled really well! I have some drivability issues with the car, namely the front end was really shaky in turns and it pulls to the left. It has Goodyear Custom Steelguard BR70-13's, which if I'm not mistaken would have been put on only for show purposes? There is a set of brand new Cragar SS's with new tires that go with the car. I suggested for test drive purposes, not to mention keeping the immaculate CV wheels clean, that they put on the Cragars. The front brakes make the steering wheel dance when applied firmly, so something is up with the rotors/pads. The clutch has way too much free play, but grabs and holds well. And it stays in the warmup surge mode (between 1900- 2000 RPMs) at all times, even after a spirited 20 minute test drive. I don't know what's up with that. There was a big wet spot under the hood release cable in the brand new carpet, so I advised
them to at least park it under cover. Here is all the body/VIN info: VIN: IV7706U200859; Body Tag Info: ST76
IHV77U222740 TR 64W A51 78L 78U O2D 97 0116 2000859690 FUL Note this may not be spaced correctly, but those are all the numbers and letters on the body tag. EFI #2438, also that number shows on the MAP sensor. Mileage: 35,635. They have the price listed at $6,995.00 (down from $10,995). For the sake of seeing them run their closer over, I offered $3500 out the door, which they countered with $4,995 plus tax and license. This leads me to believe they took it in for somewhere around $4K. I passed, but told them to keep my number just in case. Considering I wanted $3K for my daily driver and it is waaaaay dirtier than this car, if they knuckled under and took my offer I'd have to buy it. But if anyone else in interested in a really clean, show quality car and wants to spend $5,000, it's located at Chuck Olsen Chevrolet in Seattle. Contact Alex at 206-349-8201, and if you mention you heard about it from me I'll split the $100 they give me for bird dogging it with you. If my boss only knew what I really do during the day. Eric

I remember this one from eBay on several occasions. It was Hugger Orange and had magnetic graphics stuck to the sides. It always seemed like it was priced kinda high, but that's all I remember. Well, it turned up in a Seattle Chevy dealership [February, 2004], and they have no clue what to do with it. Last listed price was $6995, but they said they were "flexible". They've had it over a month. I looked it over and took a few pics. It is in pretty decent shape, but there were a few signs of trouble, starting with it sitting in the shop, hooked up to the vacuum analyzer, with the right front tire dead flat. I'm supposed to be able to drive it tomorrow, we'll see. Still, it is really clean. Does anyone remember anything about this car? I'm not really in the market, but anytime I see something this clean this close I take notice. Thanks. Eric

I recently purchased CV#2874 and joined the CVOA. This is the first Cosworth I have owned, so I will
probably be in need of lots of advice. I bought my car sight unseen, and unfortunately it was not quite
in the shape the previous owner had described. But nonetheless, it is a beautiful orange car. It only has
35K original miles. My current hunt is for a buckskin color dash pad. The one on my car has a crack to
the left of the dash handle. And it looks like the previous owner had tried to clean it with some sort of
solvent. I currently have the cam cover off and refinished it, and will be reinstalling it tonight or
tomorrow. I was unable to locate a gasket for it locally, so I made my own from paper. Mike Bormann,
Spanaway, WA.

This car is one of only an estimated 50 cars produced in the medium orange color. Estimated number
of Cosworths remaining is approximately 400 units, with only about 10 remaining produced in the
medium orange. And even fewer still with the buckskin interior.

This car still retains the factory paint and stripes. Although it's not perfect, it is a 27 year old car and still
very presentable. There are dings, nicks and touch up spots on the car. And there is a crack in the dash just
above the passenger grab handle. If you email me I can send detailed pictures and information on the
imperfections.

Comes with 2 full sets of wheels and tires. Original refinished gold cast alloy wheels with a RARE set of NOS original Goodyear BR70-13 tires mounted on them. These are used for the local shows only. As well as a set of like new chrome Cragar wheels with all lugs and washers used for driving. 13x7 rear with new P205-60R13, and front 13x5.5 front with P185-70R13 (80%).

Brand new Monroe Sensa-trac shocks all the way around. Brand new 2 1/4" exhaust with resonator and
Flowmaster 80 series (Camaro/Firebird style) single in dual outlet muffler. 2 stainless steel tips exiting just
behind each of the rear tires. Jet coated factory stainless steel header. New chrome master cylinder cover.
New chrome rear diff cover. New front sway bar bushings and link kit, repacked front wheel bearings and
alignment.

Rechromed front and rear bumpers. Re-indexed cam sprockets for better performance. New
timing belts. New in-tank fuel pump and external high pressure fuel pump installed last year. Refinished cam cover. New fuel lines. All fuel injection and chrome pulse air tubes still intact. New air filter, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Rear interior panels were refinished due to sun fading. New top vinyl strip on the top of the back seat, and new carpet attached to the rear seat also replaced due to sun fading. Brand new ACC dark saddle (OEM color) carpet kit installed. Also comes with a pair of front NOS buckskin floor mats still in the original GM box. I will also throw in my car cover for the car. Also included will be a 1974 medium orange dealer promo model in 1/24th scale that has had Cosworth decals put on it. Use it for the car shows or to display in the home or office. Currently has a working GM Delco AM/FM 8 track stereo installed (non original). And I will also include the original AM radio that I can reinstall if you would like. Yes, it also works.
I have a copy of the original title when sold new in Athens, Georgia. I also have the 1976 Cosworth Vega
owners manual, dealer’s brochure, accessories brochure, and all service manuals. Which includes: Rare 1974 Cosworth new product manual, 1974 Vega and Monza service and overhaul manual, 1975 Cosworth
supplement, 1976 Vega and Monza supplement, several Petersons repair manuals and several old magazines that feature Cosworth Vegas. And a reproduction window sticker is affixed to the side window. A rear hatch hanging display with all the Cosworth technical information will also be included. Great for car shows. I also have several large display magnets used on the car at car shows. However, these are NOT included in the auction. These were expensive to have custom made. The winning bidder will have the opportunity to purchase these at the end of the auction. If the winning bidder decides they do not want them, only then will they be offered for sale separately on eBay. I will not sell them separately until the winning bidder decides he/she does not want them. This is a great opportunity to own a rare classic piece of Chevrolet history at a great price. I am taking a HUGE loss on selling this car, even at the buy-it-now price. And the reserve is set far below the buy it now. The current Washington state license plate reads "1RARE76". This will be transferred to the new buyer if it is an in-state buyer. For out of state buyers, I will keep the plates and replace them with red white and blue "Chevrolet USA-1" show plates. This car runs and drives good.

Mark: I am having some work done on my car. It is by a friend of mine that owns a shop, and has
worked on Cosworths back in the 80's. He was surprised to see mine, because he hasn't seen one since
the 80's. He specializes mostly in Porsche's, Fiats, Lancias, and the Honda/Acura line. He is replacing
most of the engine seals/gaskets. Most of them are leaking somewhat. I have emailed Chris Wheaton for
the upper and lower gasket sets, but have not heard back from him yet. He set the timing for me for
better derivability, but will have to readjust once he installs the new sprockets. He also has ties to a tire
shop, and an exhaust shop. So I am having him have the alignment done, as well as a new exhaust. My
car still has the original cat on it. And I want to eliminate it. Do you know what diameter pipe the stock
'76 came with? I am having all new pipe put on, with no cat, and a new Walker Dynomax muffler, as
suggested by the yahoo group. I am just trying to decide if I should go for the stock look with a single in,
single out, dumping behind the driver’s rear tire. Or, I was considering a custom look, with a single in,
dual out, dumping behind both rear tires. My car is mostly stock, so I would like to stay as close to the
stock look as possible, but I really like the look of dual exhaust. I also just picked up my interior pieces
from an interior shop. I had the buckskin rear panels and side panels re‐dyed. I gave the interior shop an
unfaded piece, and they did a really good job of matching it. I also had the top vinyl piece of the rear
seat replaced with a new buckskin strip, as well as the carpet attached to the rear seat replaced with the
dark saddle carpet from ACC. I will soon be ordering a new carpet kit for the passenger and cargo areas
of the car as well. It's getting there, but it all costs so much money. I still have the original medium
orange paint on the car. Unfortunately, it has several dents dings in many of the body panels. I took it to
dent wizard, and they told me they could get 95% of all the imperfections out, but would charge an
"entire car clean up" for $1,100. I know I can get a new paint job for that price, but going through dent
wizard, there would be no Bondo on the car. So that may have to wait until next season. Thanks, Mike

Fri Nov 15 2002 05:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)

Offered for sale on eBay in November of 2002: If you are looking for a rare piece of Chevrolet history
and muscle, this is it. This is an original surviving Cosworth Twin Cam Vega with 35,000 original miles.
#2874 of 3508 total Cosworth Vegas built between 1975 and 1976. All 1975 cars and first half year of
1976 cars were all black with gold trim. The second half of 1976, they offered 8 color choices. Only
about 50 cars were produced in the Medium orange color, with very few left in existence. Interior color
is buckskin. All cars were hand built in Lordstown Ohio. This car still has the original paint and interior.
The motor is what makes this car so rare. It was way ahead of its time for 1976. It is a dual overhead
cam, 4 cylinder, 16‐valve, fuel injected, 2.0 liter, 122 cubic inch motor with factory installed exhaust
header. Header has been ceramic coated for longevity and look. All chrome pulse air tubes and fuel
injection lines are still bright chrome. Refinished valve cover. Extensive touch up paint has been done in
engine bay with factory color match to make it shine for car shows. All fuel injection hoses and heater
hoses under hood have been replaced, along with all clamps. I will also include all original clamps. This
car comes with 2 sets of wheels. The original Cosworth wheels, which were refinished several years ago,
including center caps and lugs. They do have some scuffs and nicks, but in overall good shape. Original
Cosworth spare wheel and tire still in hatch. The original wheels are currently on the car with almost
new Goodyear Eagle ST tires. A second set of chrome Cragar wheels is also included. The fronts are 13x5
with new tires mounted on them. The rear wheels are 13x7 with no tires, but in Cragar boxes. Includes
all chrome caps, washers and lugs. Car comes with about $1,500 in car show displays. Including one
hood magnet, 2 door magnets, 2 rear quarter magnets, rear hanging hatch display, and 2 laminated
window displays. One shows Cosworth production numbers, and the other is a reproduction window
sticker. Display magnets also hide any paint and body blemishes at the shows. In 2001 ‐ 2002 this car
was entered into 13 car shows and won awards at every show. Including 2 first place trophy's at ISCA
(International Show Car Association) shows, and 3 back to back runner ups at Super Chevy shows. A list
of awards and pictures of awards will be included License plate currently reads "1RARE76" and WA state
buyer will get the plates. For out of state buyers, I will keep the plates. Original 1976 Vega dealers
brochure, as well as the original warranty information booklet and a copy of the original title. Car was
originally sold on 11‐30‐1977 at University Chevrolet Company in Athens Georgia. This car is a lot of
bang for the buck. Because of its rare history, it has beaten cars at shows that people have put $20,000
+ into. Please email me if you have additional questions, or would like additional pictures. I am only
selling because my wife and I have decided to start a family, so the toys have to be replaced with baby
clothes and furniture. Vehicle Condition: Although this car is now used strictly as a show car, it is a 26
year old car, and does have its flaws. Nicks and scratches in paint have been touched up by brush. There
are some minor door dings on the sides. 2 small dents in the center of hood. Hard to see in pictures. 2
half dollar size dents in roof that can probably be tapped out if headliner was removed. (Email me and I
can send pictures) 2 silver dollar size touch ups on the hood that would not show up on camera. And 2
small areas of rust bubbles. One is on the driver's side, next to the rear quarter window. And the other
area is at the bottom of the driver's door. The bubbles are about half the size of a dime. (Email me for
pictures of those as well) No rust around front or rear windows, nor is there any rust in floorboards.
Interior is beautiful. No rips or tears in seats. New gold dash bezel. Original carpet is worn under the
pedals, but the rest of the passenger area carpet is perfect. Rear cargo area carpet is somewhat faded,
but in good shape. All gauges and lights work. Even the factory clock works intermittently. Factory 4‐
speed Muncie transmission. Original AM radio does not work? Auxiliary rear speaker. Over $1,200 in
receipts this year alone. Including: New cam/timing belt. New distributor belt. New in‐tank fuel pump
(tank re‐sealed and painted when dropped). New Bosch exterior high pressure fuel pump. New cam
seals. New oil Pump. New crank seal. New hoses. and clamps. New spark plugs. New Accel spark plug
wires. New cap and rotor. New headlights. Coolant flush. Rear differential and transmission drain and
fill.

died unexpectedly. The car was pushed into her garage where it sat until 06'. Two of her son's friend's
bought it partnering with the idea they get it running and flip it. Then, one of the partner's died and the
car was caught up in estate drama that resulted in the surviving partner loosing the car to the estate.
After passing through at least two more owners, I bought it last Dec. One noteworthy item is I have a
picture of the odometer reading when it was pulled from the mom's garage that indicates from the time
Neil died in 96' and I bought it in 12' it covered 236 miles. I've since added more than 1,000. Having read
about the issues caused by electrolysis, I scoped all the cylinders and they're clean as a whistle.
