In 2011 Dick Baumhauer corrected some of the above information and added: "I didn't know any
history about the car until I heard Bill Hutton had it for sale less the engine. The 2.3 engine Katech built
had a standard Vega crank with the nose turned down for the CV crank pulley, the C.R. was 9.6 using
standard Vega TRW forged pistons with machined valve reliefs. It was sleeved and the head was ported,
cams listed as 270‐280 degrees. When dyno'd with 48mm Delorto carbs, max HP was 186@5600, torque
182@5200. This was an engine dyno, not a chassis dyno. It was traded to Grimm without carbs. Dyno
showed no difference in HP between Delorto's and 45mm Webers. Unfortunately Gerry Murphy passed
away last year, I believe from cancer. Is Gary the young man that came to the last Green Bay Roundup
or did Gerry's name get changed? Last JC heard the car was completely apart."

According to Gary in October of 2007, this car was originally owned by someone in Oklahoma. Bill Hutton bought it from the estate of this owner, and it sat in front of his shop for a very long time. When GM needed engines for the Quad Four project, this became a donor car. He remembered it as being bought by Mark Grimm who got the
Katech engine for it. Dick’s recollection is undoubtedly better. Anyway, Katech built the 2.3L engine with a forged crank, high compression (10.5:1) pistons, DCOE 46’s (?), Weber carbs, and other good stuff. Gary put race cams in it, and a crank point ignition. He figures it produces between 250 and 275 hp; it has run “in the 13’s in the quarter mile”. It is also dressed up, with gold plated bolts throughout. He says it is not really streetable.

Story on this car is that it was one of 3 cars that Bill Hutton bought for their engines. Oldsmobile was
developing their Quad 4 and wanted some Cosworth Vega engines that they could test and analyze
during their design process. The car, sans engine, was bought by Dick Baumhauer. He traded it,
together with a loose Katech built 2.3 liter Cosworth motor, to Mark Grimm in exchange for the #3136
“Golden Eagle” Cosworth IMSA RS racecar with its race prepared heavy duty blocked engine. As of 2000
the car was owned by Gary (Gerry?) Murphy in Kalamazoo, MI.

According to a July 2005 post, this car was purchased by George Garcia in NC: “Mark: Do you have any
information on 3029. I purchased it and although all the parts are there, it is a basket case. Hood will
have to be replaced. Need a gas tank and all the interior pieces are shot. In the engine bay there is some
rusted pans, and there is no steering column lock. The car is wine with red orange interior. VIN

This maroon car appeared on eBay again in June 2003, located this time in Orange County, FL. The ad read:
“This a 1976 Cosworth Vega that has been parked for 17 years. I bought it and was going to restore it.
But I have too many projects. It has a fuel injection twin CAM 4 cylinder with stainless header 2 inch.
The motor is free, I believe that the Vega only has 24,000 miles, but have no way to prove it. I only have
a Bill of Sale for the Vega and will give a bill of sale to the high bidder. I was told that the Broadway Title
service could get a title. I pulled the fuel tank to have cleaned, but tank had holes in it, so it’s going to
need a fuel tank. It is all original‐‐nobody has touched the Vega. As you can see in the pics, this is a solid
straight Vega. The floor, rockers, and quarter panels are in great shape; the entire interior is there but is
sun beat and dry. It all so would make a great race car with all the heavy duty suspension parts and
trans. That’s all I know about it so happy bidding. The dash tag is 3029 and the interior is complete, the
front seats are dry and brittle, starting to crack from heat of the big Sun, I would recover them, because
I DON’T know of anything that would soften vinyl. IF ANY BODY IS INTERESTED, I AM GOING TO OHIO
6/27 AND CAN DELIVER OR MEET ALONG 75 NORTH IF YOU WOULD WANT TO BUY IT NOW FOR A
CHEAP FEE.

Apparently once owned by someone named Kirker of MI.
Offered for sale on eBay in May of 2003. This looks to be a restorable car, provided money is not a
major object. Needs a lot of work, but it could be done. See the pictures to understand. Also, there
might be an issue because it sat outside. The car is in Gaffney, SC. Owner says: Help get this Chevy junk
out of my MOPAR yard please. I had to take this junk in on trade and I HATE GM, but you can always
eBay crap like this. This is Cosworth Vega # 3029.....so says the dash plaque. There is NO title for this
ride, but I've had very good luck with Broadway Title .com. If this were a Mopar, I'd cut flips for the
condition......it appears to be in original paint. The hood is rusty, and it has a couple of rusted through
spots in the bottom of each fender.......and that’s about it. The quarters are mint .......I just can't believe
how untouched this thing is.......under the hood has every nut and bolt......EVERY one. The pans are all
solid as a rock, even under the spare. The shifter knob is the only un‐original piece I can see. The rest of
the interior is complete, and not rotted. If you want one of these, you'll never find a survivor like this
again. There is NO RESERVE on this piece, and I don't end early‐‐just play the game like everyone else.
Besides, we have a wager on what it'll bring anyway.......don't spoil our fun........ Call me @ 864‐491‐

Well as a guy who has owned MANY Vegas and 2 Cosworth models ( 75′ like all others black-on-black#0826 & 76′ white-on-maroon/white #3035 ) I can tell you that while this car might be a good driver the only way that car is worth that money is 100% original. I have a feeling that other than those that have stated true Vega ownership most are only repeating what the internet has provided them. My 75′ was a pure treat once the dual webers were installed ( it was fully built as well). It surprised many in it’s day. The 76′ was a 1 -0f-50 with a factory installed sunroof from SkyTrends. Marriage and then kids forced their sale. The 75′ to a better life with a pharma salesman with a growing bow-tie collection and the bank account to do the right things. The 76′ went to a guy that meant well but I found it, by chance, while at lunch one work day ( true BATs have a mind that processes ALL visual mind entries and turn around when these things happen…OK too deep there ). It was in horrible care/condition and before I got back to it a week or so later the shop was closed and the car gone. It sold on eBay several years later. - Posted by a ScottJeep on Bring A trailer

This 1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega is #3,037 of 3,508 built during a two-year production run and was delivered new to Al Lincoln Buick-Chevrolet of Troy, North Carolina. The car is said to have remained with the dealer until it was sold to a collector in Ohio in 1982 with 38 miles, and was moved to Pennsylvania in the 1990s. Power is from a twin-cam 2.0L inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and the body is finished in orange over a buckskin interior featuring bucket seats with plaid cloth inserts, an engine-turned dash panel, and a Cosworth steering wheel. Service since the selling dealer’s acquisition in early 2020 has included a cooling system flush, fuel system work, and an oil change. This Cosworth Vega shows 39 miles and is offered with manufacturer’s literature, copies of its MSO and purchase paperwork, a window sticker, a letter from the president of the Cosworth Vega Owners Association, and a clean Pennsylvania title.
The Fisher-built body is finished in Medium Orange (78L) with gold pinstripes on the hood, sides, and rear. Orange peel is noted in the finish along with cracking paint in the engine bay near the cowl. Close-up photos of the finish, glass, and trim can be viewed in the gallery below.
Gold factory 13″ cast aluminum wheels retain period Goodyear BR70-13 tires, and a matching spare is located beneath the trunk floor. Two chips are noted on the face of one of the wheels.
The interior is trimmed in Buckskin Sport Cloth (64D) over sport seats with tan vinyl side panels, and door trim. Appointments include a cigarette lighter as well as an AM-FM radio with an optional rear-seat speaker. A plaque affixed to the dash identifies the car as the Cosworth Vega #3,037.
A Cosworth-branded four-spoke steering wheel frames instrumentation in an engine-turned panel that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and a clock as well as gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows 39 miles.
The all-aluminum 2.0-liter inline-four features a Cosworth-designed twin-cam cylinder head as well as electronic fuel injection and tubular exhaust headers. Recommissioning work performed by the selling dealer reportedly included flushing the cooling system and fuel tank as well as replacement of the in-tank pump, sending unit, and fuel filter. An oil change was also performed, during which the existing filter was flushed and reinstalled. The engine is said to have been started and run for approximately 45 minutes.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Additional underside images can be viewed in the gallery.
A letter from the president of the Cosworth Vega Owner’s Association attests to the car’s condition and mileage.
Manufacturer’s and sales literature is included in the sale along with copies of the MSO, original purchase invoice, and initial delivery inspection report. A walk-around and start-up video is provided below.

According to Yahoo Message 2218, “While searching for a working computer, see post below, I stumbled
upon yet another dash with a plaque on it. Yes, it is dash number 3041. I do not have this CV in region
8's list of Cosworths, I was wondering what became of this car. I think Dick may have given this to my
dad at one time along with a few other parts, however, I am not sure. Chris or Dick, if you could tell me
more on this car, please do, like what color, VIN, accessories, etc.” Dick responded: “I remember 3041.
Owned by Bill Baxley, from a small town around Cleveland, white (I'm sure) 5‐speed (I think), don't
remember the interior. Believe it was wrecked and parted out. Paul may remember more. You have or
did have his 75, #1156, which you bought as a parts car from Dennis Schultz.” John says it had a
Firethorn interior.
