The following is a Feedback in December of 2005:  Re:  Cosworth #50.  Comments:  Hello. Just for a kick I
decided to look up Cosworths this morning.  I love your site.  I owned 1975 Cosworth #50.  It lived in
Illinois until 1982 and then drove to Seattle. On the way to Seattle, WA the engine seized just outside of
Bismarck, ND.  I believe it happened because the oil plug was not inserted properly after the pre‐trip oil
change.  I towed it behind a Chevy LUV truck that I bought in Mandan ND all the way to Seattle.
Interesting trip. The little Vega sat for several years because I didn't have the money to fix it.  Finally got
it running again and drove it for several more years. I finally decided to sell it in 1995 or so.  The man
who bought it said that he was going to fix it all up and make it new.  It had been driven in the Chicago
area winters and was very rusted.  I'm wondering if anyone knows.  Sally

It was purchased in Glenview, Illinois. I had been very ill in the hospital. My Mom and Dad wanted to do
something nice for me after the ordeal and with the help of my husband, bought the Cosworth. It was a
huge departure for my husband, having been a Mopar guy for years and the proud owner of a Plymouth
GTX.

We immediately had some problems with a ghostlike sound and went through about 3 dealer installed
alternators before the ghost was exorcised. Next surprise was tire problems. We were wearing groves in
the inside wall of the rear tires.  We were there when they solved that problem. The guy sighed, shook
his head, walked around the car, picked up a mallet and slammed the Panhard rod. Fixed it though.  The
next really disappointing problem was the wheels. Whatever was the coating and/or paint, it started
flaking and would not let the tire hold the bead. We had to trash the wheels. Chevy would not do
anything for us on that one. After all that the car hummed right along. It stayed with me through a
divorce and a huge move. I only sold it because I knew I didn't have the resources to make the body
repairs that I knew had to be done in order to keep it out of the junkyard.  Very sad day. I sold it to a guy
in Port Orchard, WA.

Now some stories.
My husband and I were out for a drive one day and decided to drive down to the beach parking
lot.  When we got down there we discovered another Cosworth parked right there. We pulled in next to
it and got out to take a look.  Ha, number 3 hundred something. Everything else, of course, exactly the
same. We were amazed because we hadn't seen another one yet.  We talked about that as we drove
back up the hill, through the upper parking lot and turned on to the street.  We were about 5 blocks
away from the beach when my husband looked in the rear view mirror and said, "Shit. This guy is
coming up really fast."  I looked back just as a car pulled up next to us as we stopped at a stop sign.  A
guy jumped out of the passenger side and leapt and my husband who was rolling up the window as fast
as he could. The guy was screaming at us, still wearing his wetsuit, "GET OUT OF MY CAR. GET OUT. GET
OUT OF THE CAR."  He opened my husband's door and started to pull him out.  I'm laughing right now as
I remember this but it was not very funny as it was happening. My husband could hardly get words
out.  We could only say that it was our car not his. His was still in the lot at the beach.  It took him a
while to calm down.  We pointed to the number plate which said 0050 and he got real quiet.  He and his
friends had been scuba diving. One of them looked up as we were driving back up the hill and they
thought his car was being stolen. The only thing they were thinking about was getting it back. They
jumped in the car of theirs that was closest and took off after us. They had never checked the lot
because they had never seen another Cosworth either.  He apologized.  We offered to go back with
them but I think he was embarrassed enough as it was. After they left I looked at my husband and he
looked at me and we burst out laughing but still thought they guy was a little nuts opening our car door.

On the trip from Illinois to Seattle, as I mentioned, I had one hell of an engine problem. Now we had the
car towed to a Chevy dealer in Mandan, ND.  They looked at the car but said that they had never seen
one and knew that they didn't have the tools, 'cause no one around those parts had a Cosworth.  They
were very nice. After making some calls they found a Chevy dealer in Bismarck that said they would take
a look at it. Towed the car there.  Now, mind you I was moving. I didn't live anywhere at the moment.
This would prove to be a problem.  The service department took a look at it, said they would like to have
it over night. I went back to the hotel.  Next day, they said they were going to be making phone calls to
find parts and tools.  Back to the hotel.  I heard from them late in the day. Here's what they told
me.  Parts and tools were not immediately available. Pistons etc. It could take as long as 4 weeks to get
everything there.  I said no way.  I went back to the dealer to see if I could solve my problem.  They were
positive that there was no way that they could get the parts and tools there before the month
timeframe they had given me.  I told them that I had no choice but to buy a truck and tow the car home
because I was not going to leave it there for that length of time.  I went to the sales department and
started looking at the brand new small pickup that had replaced the LUVs. We found a base model and
went back inside to deal.  We settled on a price, filled out all the paperwork, filled out the loan
stuff.  The salesman left the office for a moment to get everyone's approval. I heard someone call the
guy from down the hall.  It was the service manager's voice that I heard. Here is what he said.
"WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T GIVE HER A LOAN. I WANT THAT CAR."  The salesman stayed out of the
office for a while longer, came back in and informed me that I couldn't have the truck because the loan
didn't go through. I said fine. I'll send a tow truck for the car tomorrow. Towed the car to a U‐Haul
dealer, installed a tow bar. Went back to Mandan who gladly sold me a used Chevy LUV. And towed the
Cosworth from Mandan to Seattle. Now, keep in mind that the car probably weighed more than the
truck which made for some mighty interesting driving.

I'll look for some of my paperwork. I know I have a picture of the LUV and the Cos together. It was a
momentous departure.

Sorry to talk your ear off.  I loved that car.

I'm thinking that the first name of the guy that bought 0050 was Armstrong‐ Armbruster ‐ something like
that.

I also remembered an accident that happened with the car.  I was rear ended at a stop light.  It was
winter and the road was covered with snow. The impact was so severe that we were pushed all the way
through the intersection. The car that hit us kept traveling too and ended up about 10 feet away just off
my door. I was driving.  I looked at the car that hit us and saw 4 large men struggling to get out of the
Audi. The front end was gone (crumple zone).  The car was crumpled, all the glass was broken and all the
doors were jammed. The guys were climbing out through the windows. I hadn't moved. I started crying
because I knew what that car looked like and I didn't even want to get out of mine. I didn't want to see
the damage to the rear end. My friend was out. He came around my side and said that it wasn't bad at
all.  You know what people mean when they say something like that.  I got out expecting the worst. To
my left was a totaled Audi, I mean mangled. My bumper was tilted a fraction of an inch and there was a
tiny but deep dent under the left tail light. No broken plastic. No scratches. The Audi absorbed all the
forward motion and I was merely a little black and gold hockey puck.  They don't build 'em like that
anymore. The highest estimate I could get for insurance purposes was $250.  The Audi was a goner.  Talk
to you later.  Sally

Ben- Wrote on a Barn Find Auctions thread...

I owned #0053 from new for about 10 years. I enjoyed it and learned a lot. Stock the power below 3500 rpm was poor, above 3500 to redline was good. By the time I sold it it had steel cylinder liners, a ported and milled head from Hutton Motor Engineering, various tweaks from the Chevy Power manual, a large capacity oil pan , Hurst shifter on the tranny and the cat convertor deleted. Instead of running out of power at 6500 it pulled super strong to 7500 with no end in sight. Wish I still had it but stuff happens 😕

Offered for sale on eBay in January 2003.  This is a NICE Cosworth! #0061.  Overall rating I would give it
an 8. To the best of my knowledge this car was in storage for 10 years. I am the third owner.  I believe
the front air dam and the rear spoiler are the only aftermarket items on this car.  This is a strong
running, nice driving car. I would really like to keep this Cosworth, but I've got too many toys.  Don't
miss the chance to own one of these collectibles.  The interior is near perfect with the exception of a
small tear in the driver’s seat. The car appears to have been repainted and the paint is dull in a couple of
places. There is a small ding on the left rear fender. There is surface rust below the wing windows.  It has
new brakes, new muffler, and new B.F. Goodrich tires.  Second gear drags a little at high RPMs.  This car
runs STRONG!  It has 91,000 miles and is located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas.  Jodeo21
