Mon Aug 29 2022 04:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)

I own #1304 which I purchased from my cousin Jim Buote who got the car from his father (my uncle) who purchased the car from the original owner when the car was a year or two old. The car is a relatively low mileage (22-24K) mostly original car. My cousin took off the fuel injection a few years back and although I have most of the pieces, I do not have the high pressure fuel pump that goes under the car so I cannot return it to original stock condition the way I would like to. In the meantime, I have installed Weber carbs to make it drivable. I have the original lacquer paint cosmetically restored with wet sanding and polish which brought the finish back to near perfect condition. I have a few collector cars so I plan to keep this one in the collection and bring it to local shows from time to time so the public can see one of these rare cars. I plan to order a hood pad for it and possibly have the rims restored. Aside from this and the missing fuel pump I don’t really need anything for the car. Although if there was a place where I could get the correct spark plug wires I would be definitely interested. I was in the process of installing the grommets on new plug wires when the summer heat set in and I was distracted by my new CJ-7.

The car is located in Rhode Island in case that info was not available to you. Please feel free to reach out with any questions etc.

Thanks,
Michael Packard

I own 1975 CV1304. I am interested in a set of reindexed cam sprockets, and I am also interested in
changing it to Weber carbs. The car has been stored for 30 years and has 22k on it. I will be replacing all
the belts and hoses as well as the water pump and radiator, along with a gas tank flush. I can’t wait to
drive it! Thanks for your assistance and advice. Jim Buote of Orange, CA.

An inquiry to the seller generated this response regarding what happened to the car: Hello Mark. This Cosworth Vega that the plaque came from was totaled in an accident on October 17, 1981. Three (3) people were killed and one was injured. The Cosworth Vega hit a tree at 70 MPH. The motor and the wheels were parted out and this
plaque is all that was saved besides the dash emblem and the steering wheel hub. Sorry, but we don't have the VIN number. Sweetkatie”

I was the owner of a 1975 Cosworth Vega #1313 in which I sold back in the late 70's. I was hoping you
would have some information as to whereabouts of this car. I have great interest in repurchasing this
car if it still exists. Regards, Bill Friel, 412‐477‐7643. wfriel@waynecrouse.com

He said it had a cloth interior. He owned it 77‐80, and sold it to a car collector. He would like to buy it back.

The last thing I show for 1313 was that it was in Florida in 96 owned by Roger's Corvette. My guess is
that it was up for sale there. I started my database in ‘99 so that must have been in a Hemmings or
other old magazine that I went through for the info. Chris

The odometer on this car reads 534 miles. These are actual miles. The car definitely looks the part. The
current owner purchased this car 7 years ago from a private collector. They drove the car fifty miles to
there home where it has been stored in doors every since. The interior of this car is flawless!!!! The
exterior of this car is in extremely good condition. The black finish has some minor flaws do to age.
Nothing that I would feel would be necessary to repair due to the authenticity of this vehicle. This car
has the original tires that came on it. The car was started and moved 3 weeks ago. The engine runs
decent but is a little sluggish due to old fuel and lack of being used. Study these pictures carefully. This is
a truly unique car with lots of documentation included. We have the original bill of sale for this vehicle.
It was purchase the 30th of September 1977 by New Lafayette Glass Company in Lafayette, Indiana. You

According to a Feedback and subsequent conversation with owner Randy Boring of Phoenix in early
August of 2011, this car is for sale for $600 or best offer. It has an interesting history. Randy is the third
owner, is originally from Iowa, and was once a CVOA member. In fact he reports that he and another
fellow used to sleeve Cosworth Vega motors using "cast iron" sleeves for a 1936 Ford! They would bore
out the cylinders with a Bridgeport, press in the new sleeves, then deck the block to bring down the
sleeves to the level of the block. In any event, he found it in a scrapyard, and bought it sans title one
day before it was due to be crushed.

When he got it home he found that the Panhard bar was bent, a puzzle. He removed the gas tank,
cleaned it out, replaced the pump, cleaned out the gas lines and replaced the fuel filter and battery and
it started right up.

Further investigation turned up an envelope under the driver's seat with the name and address of a man
in Storm Lake, IA. On a trip back to IA Randy looked up the guy and learned that he was the original
owner of the car, that it was sold in Storm Lake to him, that he gave it to his son who later moved to
Phoenix. Driving the car down to his new home it was involved in an accident. At a gas stop a gas truck
backed into the RF fender of the car. Insurance paid to replace the fender.

The son drove it for a while and then it was stolen. Apparently the thieves slid it into a curb, bending
the Panhard bar. The car was recovered, but the son did not repair it. He threw a car cover over it and
parked it in the lot of his apartment complex. Months went by and eventually he moved. He asked the
owners of the complex if he could leave the car parked there for a while and they said it was ok. A little
while turned into a long while, the complex was sold without notice to him, and the new owners had the
car towed to the scrap yard as an abandoned vehicle, which is where and when Randy found it.
Randy located the son and bought the title off of him so he could put the car on the road.
Randy drove it for several years, accumulating about 76,000 miles, when a rod started knocking. He
parked the car and pulled the engine. He discovered that one of the rod bolts was put in backward at
the factory, with the rounded part of the head facing the rod rather than the flat. The bolt bent, causing
the knock. The crank was scored enough that Randy guesstimated that it would take a .010" cut to
clean it.
Well, as often happens, the teardown was the easy part, but the reassembly was always on the "to do"
but never seemed to get done. He did unbolt the fenders, and remove the headlight buckets, but that
is as far as he got. The body and engine parts got thrown inside the car and it was buttoned up to bake
under the relentless Phoenix sun. Randy repeatedly resolved to repair and restore it, but found himself
dragging it from house to house as he moved from one place to another in the ensuing years and never
working on it.
Fast forward to today, where Randy is soon to be foreclosed and without another place to store it.
While living with someone else, his title disappeared, so he has no title to sell with the car. Randy knows
that if he does not sell the car to someone who can use it for parts, or who is willing to restore it, it will
once again find itself on the way to the crusher.
Restoration will be a major project, but not an insurmountable one. The paint is entirely shot, and the
body has surface rust, and one or two small holes. The interior vinyl is badly cracked, the dash is
cracked in a couple of places, the dash is badly faded and corroded, and of course there are all those
engine parts sitting in boxes inside the car. The block, according to Randy, has absolutely no electrolysis
damage, and to the best of his recollection, if the bores are scored, they are only lightly scored. The
crank will need to be cut or replaced, and another rod will be needed as well. He has 5 Cosworth wheels,
and 4 tires that were "fairly new" many years ago, but are all flat now, and may or may not hold air.
He has advertised it on Craigslist for $600, but nobody has expressed any interest. Make him an offer.
