It was chassis 1619 bought new in spring of 1976. I autocrossed it at first but then Pro Rally came along where I lived in Arkansas. The allure of blasting down dirt roads proved too great to resist. I ended up selling it in 1988 to an individual that was going to restore it. No clue after that.- From Bud Scott on a Facebook Post 3/24/2021

Joe Lathrop, from Illinois, has a new toy. This is CV #1621, a documented GT3 prepped Cosworth Vega. The car was last raced in the early 80’s! Joe has plans to get the car back to Vintage Racing status

Offered for sale in February of 2008 by Jim Reardon on eBay. He writes: “1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega
VIN # 1V77E5U261879 Dash # (1621) Body Tag ST75 1HV77 U 379670BDY, TR19Y, A51, 19L, 19U, 07C 74-0967, 261879C. The SCCA GT3 road race log book (76-085) was issued Feb 3, 1981. The engine is a Chevrolet Cosworth Vega 2.0 liter engine with 11:65 CR Cosworth pistons, road race cams, ported head, internal parts polymer coated, gapless piston rings, coated headers, Webers DCOE Carbs (not shown in picture), 7 quart oil pan. Cosworth valves and valve springs. Accusump, Oberg oil filter/cooler, crankcase vents. Aluminum radiator, electric fan. Aluminum T-10, 456 positraction. 4 wheel disk brakes w/proportioning valve. Suspension components modified, with 1 ¼ and 1” sway bars, springs, bushings, adjustable Panhard bar, control arms etc. Koni shocks. Full roll cage, fuel cell, fire suppression system, relocated battery, Panasport 13 x 7 wheels. Black exterior/ no interior. This car has not been raced for 20 years. It does not run. It is a project car, needs to be brought up to current SCCA safety standards. The engine has never been started and is sitting in the chassis and needs to be plumbed to fuel system, radiator etc. This is not a tube frame race car. The car is all steel. The original builder gutted a stock Cosworth Vega and used the factory chassis and is relatively heavy. Picture shows the side of the roll cage. The roll cage was built to GT2 spec then the car was reclassified to GT3. Once finished the car would be a good club or vintage racer.”

I got a call from the new owner of #1623. Apparently money is NO issue with this guy. He said he had 24 collector cars in a year-round climate controlled warehouse. He likes buying one owner cars for his collection. He simply saw this car, thought it was neat, and hit the buy it now button. He was satisfied with the purchase price. He also, knows nothing about the cars other than they are rare. Had no idea of production figures, options, or much else concerning these cars. We talked for over a half an hour and he said he plans on joining the C.V.O.A. and the Yahoo group. His name is Anthony “Tony” Bello and he lives in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Appeared on eBay in mid July for only a few hours and sold for the $5700 Buy It Now price. Car is located in Des Moines, IA and the VIN is 1V77E5U261937. Ad read: “This 1975 Vega Cosworth with only 2440 yes 2440 original miles, it's been sitting in a garage since 1978, all original except oil, oil filter and battery! No rust ever! Original tires have flat spots from sitting. Other than old gas in tank and flat spotted tires this car runs and drives like new!!!! I used a substitute fuel system to start and run the car. So if you want an almost new Cosworth Vega this is it! Please feel free to ask any questions or come see it any time. Thanks, Rob.”
I went and looked at the #1623 car today. It was sold by the person I had suspected. He has had two places that have bought and sold muscle cars: Rob's Rods near Adel, Iowa, and American Dream Machines in downtown Des Moines. Known for buying cheap and getting all he can when selling without doing much to them while he owns them. Maybe a wash job, but that's about all. Here it goes. It is #1623. NO DOUBT THERE. Dash plate looks like new and so does the instrument cluster insert. Beautiful gold finish with no defects. No cracks in the dash pad. Gauge plastic (behind the dash bezel) is clear, not scratched, and looks new. Seats, seat belts, carpet, basically everything in the interior looks new and no fading. Doors shut very nicely and door weather strip and jams look new. NO floor mats. Has the hard headliner with the perforations in it. Didn't look in the hatch area and it has rear window louvers on it so hard to see, but no rear defogger and it should look like the rest of the interior. Has an AM only radio. Has a bracket installed under the dash where a removable stereo or CB had been. Nothing there but the bracket. Outside I was very surprised that the paint was not cracked and crazing. Had some issues of minor peeling on the driver’s outside mirror and small paint chips and scrape marks on the doors and body, but overall very nice and needed washed which would have helped. Even the drip rail chrome plastic pieces looked like new. Didn't see any signs of rust on the body but did not crawl under it to check there. Still had the unleaded fuel only sticker in excellent shape. All the stripes were there and excellent. No dealer sticker, but he has the original glove box items including original bill of sale, window sticker, and says it was sold by Crescent Chevrolet in Des Moines, a long time Des Moines dealer. He also said he had seen part of a build sheet, but had not disturbed it. He didn't say where it was other than one of the front seats. I ask him about the emissions window sticker, but he was not sure he had that as my description didn't ring any bells. The wheels had darkened paint but otherwise no defects, and the outside lips still had an excellent finish to them. Not dinged or scratched. Original wheel center caps and lug nuts in excellent shape. Original Goodyear tires all around. Has swing out rear windows. The driver’s side is missing the top chrome strip, but the rest are there and very nice. Bumpers and rub strips excellent. Valance front and back are there and excellent. The chin deflector is original and perfect. Head light bezels still have a good coat of black paint. No cracks in any of the light lenses—they look new. Door edge guards look new. Engine compartment: The engine is complete. Has had the original cooling fan removed, including the spacer, and fan shroud, and an electric fan installed on the back side of the radiator. NO rust in the battery tray or vicinity. Pulse air tubes there and not pitted. Hood pad there and like new. The car was Ziebarted (undercoated) when new. The signature sticker is missing from the cam cover. The cam cover has had the letters and stripes painted gold. All original fuel lines, vacuum hoses and water hoses and clamps. The fuel injection number stickers still in place and are #0380. The cat converter has been removed and a test pipe installed. There was a good coating of oil and greasy dirt where the engine numbers are, so I didn't get them. Also, the rear end had grease on the center section but I did NOT see a positraction tag.

The car has been setting in a garage covered and loaded over with junk since the early 90's. Surprised that the car was not scratched up or damaged by that any more than it was. He found it by chance when looking at something else in the last owner’s garage. That owner uncovered it enough for him to see the stripes and they dickered on price. The last owner wanted more money, but his wife spoke up and said he could have it for $3500 cash. He went and got the money and the deal was done. Definitely has a problem with the fuel system, but he claims to have had the car running with an alternate fuel supply. I did NOT try to start it. He had put in a new battery and the interior dome light worked fine. Didn't try any of the other electrical items. I left my name and contact info with him for the new owner. Unless he is familiar with these cars, he will need to have some help getting this car back on the street. The car is going to South Dakota. Hope that is enough info. Wasn't going to crawl on the dirty floor to see more in good clothes. Hate doing that to someone else's car any way. Just surprised he let me get what I got. Don

Hello- I am new to the group and from Salem, Oregon. I recently acquired #1625 (my first and only) from original owner in need of timing belt installation and misc. Refurbishing/assembly of fuel system (tank & charge pump…all high-pressure line to rail). 47K original on car, but stored indoors for 10 years with gas. Replaced belt to spec as called out in GM CV shop supplement. Check out http://www.jpgreenshoes.com/vega/
After 10 years in storage, #1625 is back on the road and running great! Thanks for your input, which got it there, people! Totally original & bone stock w/50k, now just ironing out a few suspect "wrinkles" inherited from the previous/original owner. I'm posting these unrelated questions separately today should someone want to find/sort them later. Dan
Bittersweet: I accepted an offer and sold Cosworth #1625 this week. It goes down in my personal history as the "shortest time owned" vehicle. I really liked that little car, but my wife has been doing aerial back flips since it left. Too bad. I was lined-up and excited for my first-ever autocross this weekend. Mark- Thanks for the initial e-mail welcome and subsequent replies. Jerry & Clark- thanks for the Cosworth engine pictures...VERY HELPFUL in making things "more right" under the hood! Duke, your tech tips are applicable, informative, and many. You bailed me out more than once. Also, thanks for making me think! Al- thanks for making me laugh. You stated that when you fart, "everybody laughs". In case you were still wondering, it's like this in Oregon: when I fart, "everybody LEAVES". It's not a pleasant thing! Good luck. Tim- My CVOA promise will be kept...vicariously through the new owner of #1625. A membership was a parting gift to them. Hopefully you'll regain consciousness from post-tax celebrations soon! Bye, all! Dan – no longer #1625 –

I purchase my CV on April 18, 2021, and it is in Very/Very Good condition with 42, 900 original miles.
My CV spent it's entire life in Southern California and is in great turnkey condition.
I am the 4th owner of this car and the car still remains in the San Diego area.
It has had one repaint and it is absolutely beautiful inside and out, the interior is amazing.
This is a completely original Crosworth starts stops and shifts perfectly.
It has been completely serviced and the fuel system has been upgraded with a tank only high pressure fuel pump.
I keep it covered in the garage, and take it out once every 2-months. I wish I had more time to enjoy the classic.
But I own 19 other classic car’s, from a 1957 Ford 2-door Hardtop to the 1975 Chevy CV.
Why did I buy the CV:
I used to own a 1975 Vega (Non-CV) over 42 years ago and paid around $600 and always wanted another one to bring back the memories of back in the day!
I wanted to thank you for all your hard work that you provide to keep this website and registry alive and well.
Take care my friend !
Best regards,
Robert Tellez
