distributor housing
hope someone can help. had an oil leak ,it looked like it was coming from dist housing, took off cover it was oily under where dist housing is .looked at back of dist gear no oil, seal did not look like it was leaking. took off housing put new o rings in and as long as i had it off i put new seal in. started it and guess what its leaking worse it seems to be anyway. no oil anywhere else, is there a trick to the o rings . i did bottom the seal out in dist housing .other than that seemed to go good no issues other the leak.i put some grease on rings to keep them in place. if any one has an other way let me know seems to be straight forward tho, anyway this has been a struggle. i have driven it, runs and drives very nice. was hoping to take it to a show this weekend but not with a leak .thanks again.
The only seal that you haven't replaced is the o-ring between the drive housing and the speed sensor. There is also an Allen plug on the end of the cam shaft that closes off the oil galley for the cam bearings, but if there is no evidence of oil on the drive pulley then this is not likely the source of the leak. The last possible source is the brass fitting on the chrome oil drain back line that runs from the drive housing to the oil pump housing. Look to see if there may be a crack in this fitting on the threads that screw into the housing or if there is damage to the end of the tube flare or to the tapered seat inside the brass fitting. If all of these check out then pull the drive housing back off and check the mating surface on it and the head for burrs. Also check the locating sleeves on the front two bolts to make sure they are not too long and preventing the housing from seating flush to the head.
