Rear Axle End Play?
I don't remember my '71 notchback having appreciable end play in the rear axles. While installing my gold wheels with new T/A Radials tonight, I checked the brakes (everything looks great), and gave everything a good tug. The driver's side rear axle has about 1/16" end play (give or take), which I'm thinking is a likely culprit for the vibration I get between ~55-70 MPH (indicated, actual is less). The passenger side has a little, but not nearly that much. IIRC, aren't there shims inside the differentail housing to set end play? Guess I need to track down a Helm manual for the '76 (I still have the Helm for my '71!).

Another followup... I disconnected the rear driveshaft u-joint and rotated the shaft 180° before reinstalling. That has reduced the vibration significantly, maybe ⅔ less than it was.
