Fuel Tank Interior Tray

Reference to the CV Fuel Tank, currently getting the tank sandblasted and coated (inside and outside). Questioning the proper positioning of the interior tray, if the tray should be mounted flat or should be at an angle. Reason, shop personal performing the restoration indicating there could be a broken weld allowing the tray to be raised on the far end from the tank sending unit tank opening. Comments as to any experience with the Fuel Tank Configuration, would be appreciative!!

Tray should be flat. Tray is not welded in. It is soldered into the floor of the tank. Resolder it down prior to coating. Also, after coating, make sure the holes in the tray are open so fuel gets inside the tray when the tank is low on gas. The tray is an internal baffle that prevents fuel slosh away from the pick up during cornering in low fuel situations. This is not a problem on carbureted cars as any ingested air will escape through the float bowl vent, but with the EFI air will likely cause short term fuel starvation and misfires.
