Offered for sale in August of 2012 out of Woodstock, IL. The listing reads: 1976 Cosworth Vega, #2967
out of a total of 3509 built, one of the "color" cars built later in the 1976 model year. Most of the others
were black. This color is called Mahogany, with a Firethorn red interior. The odometer shows just under
74,000 miles. The engine is the numbers‐matching 2‐liter four‐cylinder with the factory fuel injection,
16‐valve double overhead cam Cosworth‐designed cylinder head, and the factory exhaust header. For a
broader power band, I added cam sprockets with modified valve timing offered by the CVOA . I
freshened up the short block and installed new timing and distributor belts when I added the sprockets
in 2010. I had a factory‐style cat‐back exhaust made for it in 2011. Originally it had a 4‐speed
transmission, but I replaced that with a T‐50 5‐speed from a donor CV along with the proper torque arm,
drive shaft, cross member and cat converter mount. The rear gears are still 3.73, but it drives really well
on the street. A fellow CV owner told me I took all of the character out of it, that it drives like a “normal
car”. Also in 2011, I had the front cloth seats reupholstered with all new fabric and vinyl, and added a
new rear cargo compartment carpet. The dash panel face still has the nice, gold sheen. Even the AM
radio works.
The body and paint are driver‐quality (pretty much rust free, except for a spot on the right rear "C" pillar
and the battery tray – but that supports the battery well). But it gets me into cruise nights – always a
conversation starter. Shown in the photos: the left rear quarter panel has had some body work done to
it ‐ I never looked into it ‐ and the right front fender has a small ding. There are a few minor hail dings in
the hood and roof. I’ll include a stripe kit if you use the Buy It Now. The wheels were refinished a decade
or two ago, but look good. They have 205/60‐13 tires in great shape."

I have a Hurst shifter in #2967. It was one of the reasons I bought the car. I really like the solid feel and
positive engagement, even though the length of the throw is longer than I expected or really care for.
But, it's a driver, not a race car, so I can live with it. The linkage is still in good shape; I don't have the
rattling noise I have had in previous Hurst‐equipped cars. Since it's attached to the transmission, there is
a little more vibration transmitted, but it is a small price to pay for the positive shift quality. Chuck

According to a late August Yahoo Board post, now owned by Chuck Larsen of Rockford, IL: I'm going to
pick up my latest addition to the fleet tonight. Its #2967 ‐ Mahogany/Red (Dark Carmine?), 4‐speed. The
wheels don't look too bad, but I probably will send them out for refinishing. The dash needs to be
refinished. Are there stripe kits available still? I'm anxious to get it home. Chuck Larsen, aka cosvega76

Offered for sale in August of 2005 on eBay. This is a 1976 Cosworth Chevy Vega, with 66,000 miles. It is originally from Wyoming. It runs and drives great. It has a 4 cylinder and a 4‐speed. It has a factory AM FM radio but it is not working. This car has a rare maroon color on it and is the original paint job but it does have some fading of color and there are scratches on it. It could use a new paint job. The words Cosworth Twin Cam are located on both front fenders, the rear of the car, and the center of steering wheel, and there is a plate on dash stating that it is a Cosworth Vega along with the # 2967. It has a red interior, all in very good shape except that the driver’s seat is torn on the bottom part of the seat. That’s why there is a seat cover on that side. The car has nice tires and a new exhaust; the underbody of car is in good shape, the floors and outer body of the car are all in good shape‐‐no rust holes. The dash is also in good shape‐‐no cracking. We do have two instruction manuals with it. This is a very nice little car. We have explained everything about this car to the best of our knowledge; the car will be sold as is. We will be happy to answer any other questions you may have on the car. Thank you and have fun bidding.

Hi John: The cars came without vacuum advance. They had a flat plastic piece that attached with the
same mounting screw. Some have added the advance module to the original distributor to aid in an
effort to improve gas mileage, I believe. Duke can give a much more inclusive explanation. Did you find
replacement seat covers in the Camaro sites? I'm pretty sure they had the same seats. Dick

Hello All: The resurrection of 2967 (1976) is proceeding nicely. Should be ready for the road as soon at
the salt gets washed off the pavement. When I got it there was a vacuum advance on the distributor,
hooked to manifold vacuum. My shop manual (75) says it is not supposed to have one so I took it off. Is
this thing supposed to have a vacuum advance or not? If not, I assume the distributor has been replaced with a standard Vega unit. Would this be OK or does the CV have different centrifugal weights/curve? Thanks in advance. John Myers, Milwaukee

As of late March, 2005, he posted at Yahoo! Groups: After a few months of sorting out, 2967 has
returned to the road after over a decade of storage by the previous owner. It was parked by him due to
a plugged converter that he could not figure out. With Mr. Rock's help and a Seville converter, we got it
fixed. Many hours of Meguiar's Medallion paint cleaner, and #7 glaze have produced the results you see
here! Both of these are incredible products that I would highly recommend. The car runs pretty well, I
just need to get an exhaust on it. It is currently attached with coat hangers and full of holes. John

Luckily 2973 came with a box full of paper trail. From looking at the paperwork the car was first purchased by Bob Boyajian of Tustin, CA. from Roger Miller Chevrolet in Laguna Beach CA. on 6/23/77 at a discount from the sticker price with 54 miles on it. Some paperwork of interest is a repair bill from the dealer on 7/15/77 at 62 miles that has the windshield replaced, along with a repair of rust (shocker!) on the front edge of the roof ,with refinish of the whole roof panel. It appears the Bob was a member of the CVOA for many years and remaining until at least the mid 80's. It looks like the car changed hands in the 90's with a person named Clinton Galbraith purchasing it mid 1990's and theres one reciept with the name Ron on it from the 90's. Then it looks like it was sold to Bruce Baskins of Clovis CA. around 2012. Then Bruce sold it to Jon Gothing (whom you have listed) of MA. , then sold to Barney Goodman of Clewiston Fl. sometime in November 2020, Then I purchased it from Barney 5/21/2020. As of the writing of this email the car has 33680 on the odometer. One thing of note is there's a receipt for the sun roof replacement in 1988, which might explain why its not body color.
As far as what my plans are for this car, at first I was going to just leave it, but in true Gary fashion I've found a bunch of things that are just wrong like who ever installed the strip kit put the 75 rear light panel stripe on and the side stripes are about a 1/4" to high let alone the wrong "cosworth twin cam" decal. The rims are the wrong color, and the panels have been repainted at different times thru the years so lots of mismatching paint, the list is long! So since this car is so solid and complete, I plan on pulling everything apart from the interior to pulling the drive train and suspension, and refreshing/detailing what i can to keep as much originality as possible. There are a few small dents here and there that need attention and then a full spray to make the car all one color again.
The crazy thing is I've gone from one of the faster cars (2006 Dodge Viper which was one of the best car investments I ever made, almost got double of what I paid for it) to one of the slower cars, but couldn't be happier!
Best Regards
Gary W.

This is a 1976 Cosworth Vega that has original 30530 miles on it. The original owner lived in Southern
California and had this car until 19 years ago. He sold it to a guy from the San Joaquin valley in CA, and
the guy hauled it home and stored it for around 10 years in a building alongside a 1929 Model A pickup.
He then sold it to the present owner in Dec. of 2000 and he hauled it home and stored it until about 9
months ago inside a building and cover with car cover. He found an old factory trained Cosworth
mechanic and took the car to him. The following work was performed on it to bring it to its present
state. Cylinder head was removed and a 1st. class valve job was done, new cam sprockets and cam seals
and timing belt, radiator was removed and cleaned, new hoses and belts and plugs. fuel tank was
removed and restored and rebuilt fuel pump was installed that was purchased through the Cosworth
club,( only place you can get one) . The car passed smog test the last time was required. It has a new
battery that was installed about 60 days ago. The original owner had the car repainted same color as
original. The build number on the car is 2973 as seen on the dash plaque. The interior is original and
looks as new throughout. ( See pics ) It has a Bosch ignition system on it. It has heavy duty suspension
and the original owner had the sun roof installed as an option from Chevrolet. It has the original
Cosworth Vega wheels on it. The original owner kept all service records on it and they will go with the
vehicle. The tires are like new with hardly any wear but were on the car when third owner purchased it
so age on them might be a factor although they show no sidewall cracking at all. The car is currently
registered and can be driven off the spot. I am selling this car for a close friend of mine that doesn't do
eBay. I drove this car yesterday. It has a five speed manual transmission. Sold as is on site, Buyer pays
shipping or pick up. A one thousand dollar deposit must be paid in 48 hours of close of sale and balance
can be worked out between seller and buyer. If paid by Cashier’s check, car will not be released until
check has cleared bank which it was drawn on. If there are any other questions I will be glad to get you
an answer as soon as I can.
