(and three others). Jerry moved to Belize, Central America in 99. Jerry purchased this car in 1977 with
23 miles on the odometer for $4,500 from a dealer in Erie, NY. The car was stolen years later when
somebody hitched onto the trailer in which it was carted to shows and drove away.

This black, black cloth Cosworth was originally sold by Jim Louk Chevrolet in LaGrange, IL to Jeff
Kirkpatrick, the original owner. He sold it to Robert Felker of Burfordville MO. Bob sold it via auction to
Mark Rock at the 1997 Roundup in Detroit. Mark was the highest bidder by the end of the Roundup,
and bought the trailer it came on as well. It had Tinted Glass, Positraction, Rear Speaker, Rear Defogger,
Auxiliary Lighting, AM/FM Stereo Radio, Floor Mats, cloth seats and Door Edge Guards as options. It also
had Webers. Bob had modified it by cutting the front springs to give it a nose‐rake look. A week after
its purchase by Mark, a valve seat worked loose and the head was replaced. Mark 1V77E5U207450.
The car now belongs to Ken Rock of Leesburg, VA, a gift from his father.

You are viewing a 1975 Vega Cosworth in need of restoring or good for parts. I do have a clear title to
this car. All the parts are there to put it back together. I pulled the motor out to turn into drag car, but
decided to do something else. All bolts are in the back. I unbolted all the wires to the engine, did not
hack them. The motor runs very well and still retains the 4‐speed trans still bolted to the motor. The
engine computer and wiring harness and fuel pump is all there. The stainless steel header is still bolted
to the engine as with the alternator and starter. Still have the original twin port intake manifold and
breather. The car is number 260 in production. There is grey primer covering up surface rust and the
gold letter decals. Still retain the original wheels, but needs repainted. There are some rust holes in the
front floor board, but the rears are solid. The interior is in decent shape. The driver’s side seat has a little
tear on the left hand side. The carpet has been removed. The dash, gauges, radio and glove box are in
great shape. The interior color is black. There is rust on the lower rear front fenders, and a little bit on
the door bottoms; the front radiator bottom core support is rotted as well is the battery box. I’m sure
there is something I left out, but anyone is welcome to come and look at it. My zip is 43064 (Plain City)
and I live just 15 miles northwest of Columbus, Ohio.
Purchased by Aaron Allison of Kettering, OH for about $450.

I am trying to bring back to life #0264. This was a basket case. I am trying to get it to run. It starts and
runs but have a dead cylinder. It is using the stock EFI. I have a Bendix analyzer and the tests seem to
be checking out OK. I have a potentially bad #4 injector; it does not bleed down as fast as the other
injectors. I put in some injector cleaner. If I am lucky that will solve that problem. However, #3 injector
is not firing. I put on a Noid tester and #3 is not getting the firing signal. Anybody had this problem? I
have never gotten into wiring problems and I am having trouble following the diagrams. Any
suggestions on procedures to check out the wiring, common trouble points, etc.? JB

This car was an SCCA SSA road racer and had door handle to door handle contact. I have a driver side door
hung but do not have the rest of the hardware. I have glass and the handle and that’s it. I need a latch,
striker assembly and the rest of the door hardware. Does anyone have any door hardware? I am repairing
rust damage on the driver side door with a patch panel. I need to drive the car to a body shop for the fit and
finish. I need these parts to adjust the door. JB

Re‐listed in July of 2010: This is Cosworth Vega #0266. I purchased it earlier this year with hopes of
starting a restoration but I'm in the middle of too many other projects to do much. It came from a friend
of the original owner, who purchased it new in Columbus, Ohio and drove it until 1987 or so, when it
was parked with 99k miles on the odometer. It’s got a lot of potential and includes a clear title, a box full
of manuals and literature, stacks of CVOA newsletters, build sheet, window sticker, and many receipts
from the dealership where it was always serviced. First owner was an engineer and kept thorough notes
about mileage, repairs, etc. Only option I know of is the 3.73 posi rear. As far as I know, the car hasn't
run since the early 90's but the motor turns free by hand and the car rolls ok. Still shifts through the
gears, clutch moves, no brakes. Mice chewed through the spark plug wires, coil wiring and headlight
harness. I custom made new plug and coil wires using the original plastic sleeves and new hi
performance 8mm wiring, however that's as far as I've gotten. Interior is very clean and aside from one
tear in the driver’s seat and some fading in the carpets, it looks great. It does smell a little musty from
storage though. Previous owner added an oil pressure gauge under the dash and replaced the factory
radio with a 70's cassette deck and speakers mounted in the rear panels. Steering wheel is sticky from
age, may clean up. Body is solid overall with great floor pans but there is some rust through in the spare
tire well (patched) and some bubbling on the doors and quarters as pictured. The left lower control arm
mount is rusted through but still intact and can be repaired. It was repainted in the 80's and it’s a typical
cheap paint job with flaws, but there's enough material there to sand and buff and most of it would look
pretty good. Scrape on the left rear is fresh from storage. Car has all 5 Cosworth wheels (3 in the trunk),
air tubes, new intake boots, spare front rotors and a few other miscellaneous pieces included. There's
also a near mint set of factory GM logo floor mats. Spare wheel is in like new condition and jack and
wrench are included. It’s located in Dayton Ohio near I‐75 and I‐70 and can be viewed by appointment
later this week. Delivery may be available for a fee within a limited area, please inquire. Reserve is well
under $2000 ‐ this is the best Cosworth project you'll find for the money. Please email questions or call
513.314.7620. Thanks for looking!” The IN is 1V77E5U207837. It has cloth seats and a posi. The right
rear trailing arm mount is rusted through.

According to a June 2010 post on Yahoo, “I hate to join and bail out, but it looks like I may have to part
with my #0266. I just can't find the time to work on the car, and am in the middle of a big home rehab
project that just won't end! I bought it on ebay as a 'barn fresh' project that had been in storage since
the 90's. 99k miles, has been repainted but not modified. Has 3.73 posi. The car is currently back in
storage in Dayton, Ohio. It is not running but motor is free, interior is very clean but smells a little mousy
from previous storage. There's some rust ‐ mostly hidden in the spare tire well and the left lower control
arm mount will need repair. Rear hatch, door panels, dash etc are very nice. I have a ton of documents,
build sheets, manuals etc that came with it. Also spare rotors, new plug wires, intake boots, and some
misc items. I'm open to reasonable offers. This isn't a fire sale but I'm not looking for top dollar either.
Please email me for pics or more details. Thanks! Shawn Guillermin.

Below is an email message that I got from Charles Hanson about his experiences with a Cosworth Vega: Indianapolis, IN

Steve;

Great to see your post about the Cosworth Vega. I raced #267 in 1978 and #2261 in 1979 in Showroom Stock A against Porsche 924’s, Datsun 260Z’s, Saab 99’s, and Saab 900’s. Patrick DiNatale in Midwest Division and Ron Smaldone in Central Division also raced CV’s. Smaldone qualified for the runoffs in Atlanta in 1979, but took a Mustang to the event. The 75 Cosworth wasn’t a very good car because of the way Chevrolet did the panhard rod. They fixed the design for the 76 model and it was a remarkably well balanced vehicle.

I will say that the five speed transmission was a terrible mistake on Chevy’s part. The shift linkage was inside the transmission and it didn’t like fast shifting between first and second near redline. Would regularly try to be in both gears at once. All of us racing 76’s wound up running the four speed transmissions (which required a vehicle change because the floor pans were different).

Your pictures show one of the great features of the Cosworth; i.e. the tri-Y exhaust header. Smaldone discovered that from the end of the header through the tailpipe was exactly the same as the regular Vega, and that the regular Vega’s exhaust systems would rust out just ahead of the catalytic converter. He went looking for badly corroded pipes and put them on his car. About 6 -10 laps into a race, they would break just ahead of the catalytic converter and give him an open exhaust. The resulting exhaust length gave him an immediate gain of 10 – 15 horsepower that instantly made him competitive with the Porsches’ and Datsun’s. Eventually the Steward’s caught on to what was happening and informed him that the car had to finish the race in Stock condition (i.e. with an intact exhaust system). That is why he wound up taking a Mustang to the Run-Off’s.

I never got mine to be competitive in National racing, but did win two Regional races, set a lap record at Waterford Hills, and finish second in the Central Division Regional Championship in 1979. I raced for twelve years and it was absolutely my favorite race car. Always thought that it would have made an outstanding ITA car, but by then I was looking at putting two daughter’s through Purdue University.
