Unknown post.. I bought this car as the second owner in 2001 and I’m selling it because it is a
special vehicle that needs to be cared for and driven regularly and I no longer have the wherewithal to
do either. The car was stripped, repainted and re‐striped right after I bought it, and it sits in a garage
whenever it isn’t on the road. It is black on black and stock with the exception of a vintage Hurst Ram
Rod racing shifter mated to the factory Muncie 4 speed (neither the car nor the transmission were
modified to accept it and the original shifter is included). It has just over 26,000 original miles and runs
well. The engine has never been rebuilt, but the gaskets are over 30 years old and it has the usual
Cosworth leaks. The oil pan has a dent in it that could be easily popped out if the oil pan was off‐‐I just
never did it. Car has new shocks, battery, muffler, catalytic converter, fuel pump and modified PCV
system, and the radiator has been rebuilt. The body is rust free with the exception of a little surface rust
on the battery tray. There was also somebody damage to the upper right rear quarter panel and the
driver's side door which was fixed when it was painted. The interior is mint with the exception of a
missing mirror and stuck dash clock as well as a scratch and a popped line of stitching on the driver’s
seat. The hazard flashers need to be fixed and the hatch struts also need to be replaced. The cargo
space carpet has been replaced with a split rubber mat but it is rolled up and in good
shape. Cosmetically, all it needs is to have the rims redone‐‐I was going to a few years back, but I sort
of like the way they look. Included is an extensive collection of tech manuals, dealer bulletins,
advertisements, paperwork, and a build sheet that I found stuffed into a nook in the engine
compartment when I had the radiator out. I also have the original AM Delco radio which I swapped for
an identical AM/FM Delco from a ’77 Vette. Vehicle passed safety & emissions inspection last
November. If you live in Utah we can get the plates transferred so they can stay with the car

Sold it 8/2017. I built as a track car. Had a whale tale and I repainted 20 years ago and applied all the stripes from the club. Had 48 Weber’s and short track cams.

Well as a guy who has owned MANY Vegas and 2 Cosworth models ( 75′ like all others black-on-black#0826 & 76′ white-on-maroon/white #3035 ) I can tell you that while this car might be a good driver the only way that car is worth that money is 100% original. I have a feeling that other than those that have stated true Vega ownership most are only repeating what the internet has provided them. My 75′ was a pure treat once the dual webers were installed ( it was fully built as well). It surprised many in it’s day. The 76′ was a 1 -0f-50 with a factory installed sunroof from SkyTrends. Marriage and then kids forced their sale. The 75′ to a better life with a pharma salesman with a growing bow-tie collection and the bank account to do the right things. The 76′ went to a guy that meant well but I found it, by chance, while at lunch one work day ( true BATs have a mind that processes ALL visual mind entries and turn around when these things happen…OK too deep there ). It was in horrible care/condition and before I got back to it a week or so later the shop was closed and the car gone. It sold on eBay several years later.

Offered for sale on eBay in May of 2005: This is a 30 year old Classic Muscle Car Chevy Vega Cosworth.
This #828 car of production of 2061 in 1975 has 35622 actual miles. This car runs and drives great, and
most all original parts. It is ready to hit the road. The body is in great condition for its age, no dents. The
paint is bright only very small amount of rust or scratches, typical for its age. The top shows specks;
rocker panel, under hood, and bottom lip of door have very minor surface rust. You have to look for it to
notice. New battery, also new Goodyear tires on great original wheels. The interior is in great shape only
a little faded from the sun. Door panel, dash, head liner, trim, and seats in great condition. Original radio
works great and it has 8‐track. The only thing missing is the shoulder safety belts, lap belts are there.
Owner’s manual and other Cosworth brochures are included. I am trying to describe to my best ability.
(CHECK OUT THE PICTURES) If you have any questions please email and I will try to answer. (I RESERVE
THE RIGHT TO CLOSE AUCTION EARLY IF IT IS SOLD PRIOR TO AUCTION END) This car can be seen at 3rd
& Bird St. Hannibal, MO. The VIN is 1V77E5U227933. It has cloth seats. This car sold for $4412.

CN, my records show that #0829 was owned and for sale here in Texas in August 1985 by a guy named
Schneider. Perhaps CVOA registration records can tell you more. The only thing that I can tell you is to
insure that all the numbers match, unless you do not care if it is original. There are some cars out there
with Cosworth engines but not the original body. These cars should be discounted, as would a Shelby
made from a regular Mustang body. See if the original fuel injection is either installed and working or is
in a box, complete, if Webers have been installed. Other than that, it should pull to the redline in every
gear! Clark A. Kirby

Hi: The present owner, who lives in Avon, OH, told me that the car is from Texas. Where are the
matching numbers on the engine and transmission located? Was there a problem with the original fuel
injection and is it normal that they are replaced with Webers? Does the CV engine and any of the
problems associated with the base Vega engine (burning oil, etc...). Any other unique problems to look
for? MUCH THANKS!! CN
Chuck, there are others who monitor this site who can refer you to the proper spots to check for
matching numbers. Since I have never bought a used car, I do not concern myself with this
detail. However, to answer your other questions: (1) the Cosworth came with a neat Bendix/Bosch port
fuel injection system and a unique (some say beautiful) Pulse‐Air emissions system. The FI was state of
the art in 1975 and only Cadillac (of domestic manufacturers) also had it that year. The FI was trouble
free but that did not prevent those who understood only old technology (carbs) from removing the
original induction and replacing it with the Hutton Weber system. Of course, at the time, FI was
mysterious and a simple corroded connection would drive Cosworth owners crazy. The CVOA put out a
copy of the Bendix engineer’s tech manual to troubleshoot the FI, but it seemed to be a performance
fad to rip out the FI and put on Webers back in the 80's. Bill Hutton's promotion of his Weber system
was effective and for a full race engine, the Webers flowed a great deal more air. Hutton, himself, has
told me that stock Cosworth Vega engines do not see a power gain with his Weber system unless you
uncork the exhaust. But, Weber equipped Cosworths ARE louder (induction noise) and sound meaner!!
(2) The Cosworth engine, though it shares the same block with the Vega, does NOT have the block/head
sealing problems or the cooling problems with which the Vega suffered. GM fixed these flaws, however,
with the DuraBuilt Vega engines in 1975, but it was too late to save the Vega's reputation. The problem
with the original Vega engines was the dissimilar metals in the head & block (aluminum block/steel
head) that required a better sealing head gasket than was originally installed, exacerbated by the too
small radiators in the 1971‐1974 Vegas. The Cosworth engine is an all‐aluminum 3‐piece racing engine,
actually a detuned formula 2 racing engine for the street. Come to the Roundup next weekend to see
the best collection of Cosworths anywhere. The trip, hotel, and Roundup fee is a cheap Cosworth
education. ‐Clark Kirby, Arlington, Texas
I posted questions about CVs while thinking about buying this car but I am unable to purchase it
now. The car is in excellent condition and the engine is absolutely beautiful. He wants $4300 for it. I
didn't test drive it or check for matching numbers and it has supposedly 32,000 original miles. It is in
Avon, Ohio (half hour west of Cleveland). If you want to contact the owner then please e‐ mail me.

I've always admired the Cosworth Vega and this one has come up for sale. It' a '75 and the dash plaque
says #0829. I tried to do a car fax history report and it doesn't go that far back. The car was repainted in
the 80's and according to all the info I've seen on the net it looks like this car was well kept and original. I
haven't driven it yet but what else should I look for? I hope to take it to a garage tomorrow to get it
checked out. Chuck Nagy

EBay ad on March 30, 2003: “this is an excellent piece of automotive history. It is to my knowledge all‐
original. It has new timing belt and distributor drive belt and new tires. The interior is immaculate. The
exterior is straight but has some paint flaws. It is 28yrs. Old, runs and drives. It has a very impressive
history of automotive firsts. It came factory with a stainless steal exhaust header, fuel injection and
magnesium wheels (including the spare). Her assembly # is 0834 off the Cosworth line. The dash plaque
is still intact in its original location. This is a beautiful automobile. It is also registered with the Cosworth
Vega Owners Association.” The car has 25,532 miles, is black/black, and the VIN is 1V77E5U228122.

Mark, Jeff: I finally got in touch with the seller of the Vega in GA last night. His son owns the car but
lives in CA. He planned to take the car to CA with him but the timing chain broke, so he left it with his
dad to sell. They replaced the timing chain but it still isn't running correctly. It may need some engine
work. The dad said that it also needs paint. The son bought the car from the original owner's family
from TN. The current owner lived in northern AL until recently. I asked if they knew anything about the
CVOA and he was familiar with it. He said that his son has a folder of info/patches from the CVOA. I
assume that it is already in your registry or he is, at least, a member. The car/dash number is 0834. I
will attempt to see it this weekend. Based on this little bit of info, what do you believe would be a
reasonable value on the car? Dave Marsh, AFLAC IT Applications Dev. 706 596‐3427
I went to look at the car yesterday (Sunday) and took some photos. It looks like it still has the original
paint and interior. The paint is pretty bad but the body only has surface rust in some areas. The interior
is in very good condition with the exception of the gold turned dash panel and the door panels. The
dash panel looks faded in areas. The door panels are slightly warped but look repairable. The rain gutter
trim was off but in the car. The fuel gage wasn't working and the speedometer broke as I was driving
it. The original spare and jack were in the 'trunk'. The car did run but seemed a little sluggish. Since he
replaced the water pump (it may have overheated when the pump quit) and timing belt, the engine
probably needs going thru. The transmission didn't want to go into 4th gear. It will also need some
attention. The exterior still looks original. All four wheels w/center caps are there. The steering wheel
has the correct horn button, although the steering wheel is very sticky from age. Here is some of the
data on the car that can be seen in the photos:

Discovered in an unheated garage on the outskirts of Shirleysburg, PA. Actually, the owner, who parked
the car with about 23k on the odometer in 1996, approached me at Carlisle wanting to sell it and #0385,
which he parked at the same time. He is asking $6000, but will entertain offers. The VIN is
1V77E5U228209, and it has 23,917 on the odometer.
