The dash plaque and bezel and speedometer appeared on eBay in October of 2004: “Original center
dash panel from a 1975 Cosworth Vega ID number 0848. There are no cracks in the plastic, the engine
turning is still visible and is original. The speedometer and odometer is original to 0848 and shows
88336.8 miles. In the image below, I have just positioned the speedometer on top of the dash; in the
car (of course) the speedometer is mounted behind the dash panel.”

My dad's friend used to autocross #0848 with my dad in NY. I remember he used to win all the time in a
stock CV. #0848 spun a bearing at Lime Rock Park, and then my dad got the car. He was going to make
#0848 a racecar, but there was too much rust. My dad bought an engineless CV, #2523, from Bob
Quindazzi. Quindazzi built that motor and used it in his Run‐Off winning GT3 car that I've seen a few
pictures of. But #0848 was used for all its worth and was crushed in VA. We then moved to NC and sold
#2523 to a plumber in FL in 1995. My dad thinks its Paul Csabon, but is not positive. ~CHRIS

This car was offered for sale on eBay in July of 2012. According to the listing, the VIN is
1V77E5U228762. The text of the listing says: ONCE IN A LIFE TIME OPPORTUNITY FOR A ORGINAL VEGA
COSWORTH NUMBER 853. I bought this Cosworth from the original owner in May of 2005 with only 476
miles on the vehicle, it is now showing 793 miles. In seven years I have owned it I only drove the Vega
about fifty miles a year to keep all the seals in good working order. This is numbers matching car with all
the documents to go with the vehicle. This is a one of a kind car that you would have a hard time to find
in this totally unmolested original condition. A LITTLE VEGA COSWORTH HISTORY: The Cosworth was
introduced to the public at the 1975 Chicago Auto Show, almost two years after it was first announced
(late) and six years after the idea was conceived. DOOMED from the start. The Cosworth is a special
Vega with a number of hand‐assembled, very expensive components. The Cosworth engine comes out
of England and makes use of sophisticated developments like twin camshafts and electronic fuel
injection. It develops 120 horsepower at 5600 rpm and a torque of 115 lb./ft. at 5200 rpm. The
Cosworth interior has special instrumentation package including an 8000‐rpm tach, and black custom
upholstery (some white interiors were available in the later year) and door trim panel, sport steering
wheel and four speed manual transmission. The only exterior color available was black, highlighted by
gold pin striping and special deluxe wheels. In 1975 Chevrolet produced only 2061 vehicles, about one
for each three Chevy dealers. For 1976 only 1447 were produced before Chevrolet decided to pull the
plug on the concept. Thru the Cosworth Club of America only about 500 Vega Cosworths have been
located to date. So if you want a little bit of automobile history in your garage this is the car for you. It's
a fun car to drive and many older people can remember the Vega but not many know about the
Cosworth. The 2012 Collector Car Price Guide has this car in #1 condition listed at $11000.00. I RESERVE
THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION AT ANY TIME AS THE VEHICLE IS LISTED LOCALLY. 10% DOWN UPON

NO PAYPAL. THANKS FOR LOOKING AT THIS GREAT VEGA COSWORTH AND HAVE FUN BIDDING IF YOU

According to a message to the Yahoo Group in January of 2010, “I would like to know if you all could
help me with a Cosworth Vega problem. My uncle has recently acquired Cosworth Vega #0855 and is
having a few problems with getting it up and running after years of sitting. I will start at the beginning
and let you know what has been done and what the problem is. First, when we received the car it was in
a non‐running state. After getting the car into the shop, simple diagnostics found the non‐running
problem to be a fuel system problem (ran on ether) so we started to replace the fuel system
components. The in‐tank pump was replaced as well as the frame mounted high pressure pump. The in
tank pump was still available through Airtex but the frame mounted was not. After looking for suitable
replacements we came across Airtex pump# E2315. It was originally installed on EFI equipped Cadillac’s
and other European EFI cars in the 70's and the specs were virtually identical to the Cosworth pump.
After those were installed we still were not getting any fuel in the engine. We replaced the frame
mounted fuel filter and still no fuel, but then found that all 4 injectors were stuck shut. After having
them sent off to be rebuilt we thought we would be able to have it running. Well the
injectors have been installed and we have another problem. It only starts up and dies! After looking into
the fuel problem and having the components replaced or repaired I continued to look into possible
culprits to hindering fuel injection into the engine. After starting it a few times I was able to determine
that if I kept pressing the accelerator up and down at a rapid rate I could keep the car running (but
stalling unless I kept the rate the same). With the help of my uncle he would operate the throttle while I
checked for an injector pulse at the injector plug in. That’s when I noticed that I was only getting a pulse
when the throttle was cracked open and only for that quick second past idle. I then decided to remove
the throttle position sensor from the engine and move it separately from the throttle itself. Doing this I
found that I could make the car idle only if I moved the throttle position sensor back and forth like I did
when it was attached to the engine. So I guess what I am asking is if this sounds like a defective throttle
position sensor and if so where do I find a replacement? Or is there a better way to test this sensor to be
sure that this is the problem for sure? What I do know is that my injection pulse IS a problem and that
the throttle position sensor affects it in some way. If you guys could help me out in any way or any
advice about this would be greatly appreciated!!! Trying to get another Cosworth back on the road!!
Mike Shoemaker”

#856 is running well. Earlier this year I removed had the gas tank coated inside and replaced the sending unit and the two fuel pumps. It was amazing the car ran at all prior to replacing the sending unit, because two of the metal lines on the sending unit were rusted completely through with a 1 - 2" gap. I had some sporadic hesitation during acceleration for the last few years and didn't realize this was the cause. Ultimately it caught up with me and the car had to be towed. But it's running very nicely now, and the fuel gauge works for the first time since I bought the car seven or eight years ago.
When I bought the car it had only 750 original miles on it. The first two owners didn't use it much. Fortunately it was stored well so there's no rust at all on the car and overall it is in very nice condition. It's not a show car, but is entirely original except for the muffler (and someone removed the catalytic converter along the way). The original lacquer paint actually looks very nice considering how poor GM's paint quality was in the mid-70's. It is checked on the hood and if you look closely also on the passenger's door, though it has a very nice shine (I had it ceramic coated five years or so ago) and the flaws are only noticeable if someone is specifically looking for them. When I first bought the car it still had a strong new car smell inside, the interior was (and still is) very 'fresh'.
Though rather than keeping it as a sub-1000 mile car, I decided I wasn't going to save it for the next owner, rather, the two prior owners saved it for me. I put about 300 or so miles per year on the car on average. It now has about 3200 on the odometer. I could drive it this way for the rest of my life and it still will have under 10,000 miles.
This is my third Cosworth. I bought the first one, #1428, on July 6, 1976 (I had turned 17 that day and it was my first car). I purchased it at Malcom Konner Chevrolet, which was known as a performance oriented Chevy dealer. Unfortunately that one was wrecked the following year. I had it repaired but it was a botch job and I don't see any record of the car still existing today. The second one was #1488, which I bought from David Dempsey. It ran well but needed more bodywork than I was ready to put into it. It is now in a museum in Israel (with bodywork completed but to a so-so quality level).
Thank you for serving as president of the COVA. Your service is important and meaningful to all Cosworth Vega owners.
Best regards,
Gary

Hi, My friend in Israel Ami Lapidot contacted you at my suggestion as he needs the two fuel pumps for
his Cosworth Vega (#1488). I sold him this car some years back which I originally bought from David
Dempsey. After I sold #1488 I replaced it with #856 which had less than 1000 miles on it when I bought
it. I'm a member of the CVOA.
If it makes things easier I can buy the two fuel pumps (the one in the fuel tank and the one under the
rear seat) and I'll get them over to Ami. Can you let me know if you have these available, and if so, how
much they cost? I can then pay you by PayPal or send a check or use a credit card if you accept them.
I had also owned a Cosworth Vega that I bought new in July 1976, #1428 (it was a 1975 model), that was
actually my first car. I worked five years to save enough for it, and unfortunately it was wrecked 10
months later (due to a drunk driver on the road). It was repaired but not well and I had to give it up. I
still have the 1978 Nova (305 V8, 4 speed, posi rear, F41) that I replaced it with.

EBay listing in November of 2009: “VIN 1V77E5U228953. This is a clean and classic example of the
legendary 1975 Chevy Twin‐Cam Cosworth Vega. This car starts and runs great and both the interior and
exterior are in near‐perfect condition. It belongs to a friend of ours who acquired the car in a swap and
appears to be mostly, if not completely, original. The previous owner was a member of the Cosworth
Vega Owners Association. The current owner hasn’t had it very long; it appears to have been garaged
throughout its existence and was trailered to my home. Chevy only made 3508 of these cars and this
one is labeled #0859. Production lasted just two years. It is one of the rarest cars Chevrolet made and
was originally destined for competition racing. This car is super‐clean, in collectible condition, and will
likely put a smile on anyone who is a Cosworth enthusiast’s face. Features include:
‐shiny black paint with gold detail and accents
‐black vinyl interior with black carpet
‐original, gold‐colored wheels in perfect condition (no curb marks)
‐newer tires
‐4‐speed manual transmission
‐fuel‐injected, 16‐valve engine with dual overhead cam
‐parts and service records dating back to 1985
‐original owner’s manual
‐63,000 miles

In October of 2013 Don posted on Yahoo: Ok, here is the deal. Have 2 Cosworths I need a good home
for. I am out of room at my house and the city just gave me 30 days to get rid of them or get them in a
building. Hate to pull them out to the farm and let them set there in the tall weeds. Number 0870 is a
parts car. All there but has not run in a long time. Started smoking blue and parked it before it got hurt
more than it was. Has swing out windows. Original wheels will be included. Is current on registration
and registration/license. Both cars still have the fuel injection but no pulse air tubes. Will throw in a 76
or 77 regular Vega rear end out of a 5 speed car. Trans, driveshaft, trailing arms, shocks, GT wheels and
tires, and torque arm all go too as well as some GT wheels if wanted, and a spare set of Cosworth
wheels. Titles in my possession and they are clear Iowa titles.
Gave $1300 for the car when I bought it. Since the city has me over a barrel, make me an offer on the
whole kit and caboodle and will see where it goes. I know I won't get anywhere close to what I have in
the 2 cars, but can't bear to see them go to the scrap yard. Have pictures of 3004 if wanted. Contact info
