The Fate of #1114: This Chevy‐Cosworth Vega (#1114) has been sitting in south Georgia since '91. We
brought the car back to the shop (aka 'the shed') to start tearing it down to see what we're working
with. After pulling all the seats, interior, carpet, and vacuuming over 40 lbs of rat crap we see the floor
pans are partially rusted through and the area behind the headlight buckets are completel. Now what?
We're going to build it for the CHUMPCAR World Series! I can imagine some of your expressions at this
point. Some are like, "What is Chumpcar?" others are, "Why?!". As incredible as the original 110 hp
engine was, it's too expensive for us to rebuild and race so we picked up a 4.8L V8 (285hp/295ft‐lb) from
a '01 Silverado 1500 for $300. With a cowl hood and Monza mounts we could put it in the stock H‐body
V8 location but that's not good enough ‐‐ too far forward and too high. We cut the firewall over the
weekend and have the engine sitting back about 12" and down 3". We're planning to mount it to the roll
cage using a midplate so the #1 and #2 cylinders are sitting behind the front axle line. With some
trading, we picked up a couple Muncie 4‐speed cases and a bucket of parts.
Tons to do but if you're on Instagram you can check out the progress!

In January of 2007 Dave provided this additional information: The VIN is 1V77E5U241313. The EFI
Sticker number is 1216. It has tinted glass, AM/FM radio (now just an AM radio) a rear speaker, rear
defogger and positraction. It was previously owned by Lee Anita of Orlando, FL. He believes the car was
sold new in Florida. There are no modifications. Dave has had the rotted cowl and dash replaced by a
body shop, and the cowl and roof have been primered in epoxy primer. Pictures are available. They
make the paint look much better than it is. The paint definitely needs to be redone.

This black car with a white interior was offered for sale on eBay in October or 2005. It has 54,000 on it,
and judging from the pictures, the radio has been replaced with an AM/FM cassette unit, the seats are
in excellent condition, the hatch is filled with trophies the car has won, and the wheels appear to have
been refinished but with a lighter color of gold. It still has the pulse air tubing attached, the header has
been Jet Hot coated, and the master cylinder cover is chrome. It has an underhood light mounded on
the passenger side, the battery appears to be sitting in crooked, and it still has the window sticker and
the unleaded fuel only sticker. It also has the door edge guards. The ad reads, “Rare find. Totally
restored. Garage kept. This beauty takes a trophy nearly every time she leaves the garage. Everything
works. Low original mileage. Owner has had this car for 7 years and is sacrificing due to move. Won
numerous car shows and a spot in Super Chevy Magazine. Was a Cosworth Club member. Have loads of
documentation, trophies and plaques that come with the car.”
Oliver Giorgi bought it back using Auction Stealer to submit his last minute bid.. Will pick it up on
10/20.05 and trailer it home. He reports that he had an accident with the driver’s side door, and that he
“blew” the second gear synchro in a “race” against a 77 Z‐28. It was worth it—he won. His vanity plate
was the dash number, 1134.
