1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega Just Rescued in Southern California After a 29 Year Nap!!
The Previous Owner Bought It For His 15 Year Old Son's Birthday in 1985. His Son Never Learned How to Drive a Manual Transmission Vehicle, So the Cosworth Sat in the Garage For 29 Years. Coming to the Realization That the Cosworth Would Be Better Appreciated By a New Owner, the Father Decided to Finally Sell After Almost 3 Decades!!
This Cosworth Still Sports Its Original, Unmolested 122 Cubic Inch, Double Overhead Cam, 16 Valve, Fuel Injected Motor With Factory Stainless Steel Headers. The Original 4 Speed Manual Transmission Shifts as It Should and Still Sports Its Original Shift Knob and Reverse Lock Out T-Handle.
The Exterior Paint Seems to Be the Original Black Lacquer Coat as Applied By Chevrolet. Although Not Show Quality, It Still Has a Nice Shine. The Body Has No Signs of Previous Accident Damage or Rust Issues. It Still Retains All Factory Applied Emissions, 122 Cubic Inch Cosworth Engine Information, VIN Number, Recommended Tire Pressure/Tire Size, Etc. Labels/Stickers.
The Wheels Are 1970s Vintage "Western Wheel" Mini Lites. This Upgrade Gave the Cosworth a More Personal Touch of the Owner While Retaining the Sport/Racing Look of the Vega.
The Interior is Factory Stock Just as It Left Chevrolet 40 Years Ago. The AM/FM/ 8 Track Tape Player Works Great and is Ready to Rock With Your 8 Track Tape Collection!! The Overall Interior is in Good Shape (Top of the Rear Seat Repaired) and Can Be Enjoyed in Its Present Condition For Many Years to Come.
In 1975, the Chevrolet Motor Division Flew Cosworth Technicians From England to the United States to Hand Assemble Each Chevrolet Cosworth Motor For Each Cosworth Vega Produced. A Very Low Figure of Only 2061 Cosworth Vegas Were Produced in 1975. This Was Mainly Due to the High Assembly Cost of Each Vehicle Which Put the Sticker Price of Each Cosworth Vega Just $400 Cheaper Than a New 1975 Chevrolet Corvette.
If Your Serious About Adding a Rare Chevrolet Cosworth Vega to Your Stable, Not Seriously Considering This Example, Would Be a Missed Opportunity!! This Would Make An Excellent , Father/Son Weekend Car or Second Vehicle. Note- This Cosworth is Sold As Is As Shown With No Warranty Whatsoever. WYSIWYG....This Classic Car Is Listed Elsewhere and We May Terminate This Sale Anytime. Please Call Cindy at (909)844-8677 For More Information.

This ad appeared on eBay in October of 2006: “Hello! You are bidding on one (1) used Cosworth Vega dash/instrument panel! As-Is and in good condition from Cosworth #1519 being parted out here in NW Washington. This is one used Cosworth Vega dashboard panel from car #1519. As you can see in the pictures what was once a gold original color has faded to silver, but this is still original from Vega #1519 out of Texas. The car has proved to be a "grafted" car where the rear 3/4th's of the body (behind the doors) was pieced onto the front clip, so this one is going to parts. Look for other auctions with Cosworth Vega parts in the future. Let me know if there are specific parts you are looking for. Buyers, I am doing this as a favor for a friend and I will stand behind this item. I know it is 100% for real as my friend is a Cosworth freak! I will package this item nice and ship it with a quickness as I do with all my eBay auctions!” Car is located in Mountlake Terrace, WA.

Now owned by Jim Pettet of Littleton, CO. (aka Ztoe). He bought it off eBay. Took delivery, but it won’t run much above idle. In October of 2003 Jim reported that replacement of the ECU and the speed sensor cured the ills of this car and that it now runs great!

#1526 is for sale. Been sitting since 1986. No title or key. I’m pulling the engine and transmission to keep for my cosworth. Would make a good drag car or v-8 street car swap. Pretty solid underneath, battery tray area has rust. Complete car minus engine and transmission. If I don’t get $1500 or close to that I’ll part it out. Located in Richmond Virginia.

Unknown Date. More pictures at http://www.smithtex.com/cosworth Original – Unrestored 1975 Cosworth Vega. There were a total of 3507 Cosworth Vegas built in 1975 and 1976. At the same time there were over 5000 Chevrolet dealerships in the US, so not every dealership had the opportunity to get a Cosworth. The Cosworth Vega was constructed as a limited production vehicle to qualify GM to run the Cosworth powered Vega in Formula II racing. The project was a collaboration of GM and Cosworth of England. General Manager John DeLorean instructed Vega engine designer Jim Musser to work with Keith Duckworth of Cosworth Engineering Ltd. in England. The Cosworth team came up with a lot of firsts for GM in this vehicle. The Cosworth Vega was the first GM production vehicle to use 4 valves per cylinder, factory electronic fuel injection, factory stainless steel tubular exhaust headers, and pressure cast aluminum wheels. In the January 1986 issue of Car and Driver, they named the Cosworth Vega as one of the 10 best collector cars built since 1974. This particular "Twin Cam" has been garaged since 1977. The car was delivered to Reader Chevrolet Company in Knoxville, TN in 1975. It was featured in their showroom until it was sold to a Christopher Brown of Oliver Springs, TN in August of 1976. Christopher was the first titled owner of the car. And later I titled the car in Texas when I purchased it. As of this date, the car has an original 6,775 miles. This Cosworth Vega is an all original unrestored car in very good condition. It has all the original door seals belts and hoses and they still look and feel near new. I have the original Goodyear BR70-13 Custom Steelguard radials on the original aluminum wheels, as well as a newer set of Goodyear Radials mounted on original Cosworth Vega wheels that are mounted on the car. This Cosworth, #1527, and as all 1975 models, is black with the gold pinstripe, black interior, and a 4-speed with 3.73 rear gear. This is a fun car to drive and the transmission shifts great. As can be noted by the mileage, the car is driven rarely for special events only and has spent its life covered in a garage. I personally am a very sentimental person. My first new car was a 1972 Vega and I always wanted a Cosworth, but could not afford one while I was in college and then looked years before I found this one. Now after all this time I am considering selling her as I have moved into another home and don't really have a good place to store her. Presently the car is covered and stored in the shop of our business. My greatest hope is that this car will find a good home. As extras, this car comes with a Chevrolet Cosworth Service and Overhaul Manual Supplement, Cosworth Vega Engine Assembly Guide, CVOA Tech Bulletins, EFI Guide and Clymer Chevy Vega Shop Manual.” This car is located in Atlanta, TX.

This car appeared on eBay in October of 2006. The ad read: “Rare Special Interest Vehicle - 1975 Cosworth Vega #1527 of 3507 total. Original – Unrestored 1975 Cosworth Vega with less than 6800 miles. This may well be one of the finest low mileage Cosworth Vega cars left. I don’t think you will find a finer one that has been driven. The Black Book, Cars of Special Interest guide, has valued a #2 Cosworth at over $9500. My reserve is just below this figure. This car has the original paint in good condition, especially considering the 30+ years of age. There are a couple of very minor touch up spots in the grill area. The seats do not show any wear and there are no tears. One of the most impressive part is the condition of the rubber parts. This car has been stored indoors all its life and the rubber has not been exposed to UV rays, heat or cold. All the rubber is very pliable and the doors close as good as any new car. There are no pecks are cracks in the all original glass. The decals under the hood and on the sun visor are still in very good condition. This car is very close to a #1 car. Just due to its age and some driving, some may consider it a #2, but if so, it is a strong #2. Knowing the history of this car, the care through the years and the special interest value, the value should be valued well over the basic Black Book rating.

I have a 1975 Vega Cosworth that was given to me from my Grandfather. The car itself is in great condition! Low mileage the whole nine yards. The only issue with the car is the engine is blown up and the wiring harness is done for. This is where my issue is. Should I look into trying to locate an engine and harness or do I look into doing a more modern LS or V8 swap or etc.?
I’d love to keep the car original for obvious reasons but how worth it is that for me to do?

He ended up storing it for many years and realized that at $1800 a year in storage he had paid more than he ever wanted for the car and just wanted to get rid of it. Chris Wheaton picked it up probably around 2003 and still has the car as of February 2014
