#1570 This car was for sale on Craig’s List in Indiana in July of 2013. The VIN is 1V77E5U260418. My CV is 1570 and thanks to Mark Rock and his assistance I have been able to get it running smoothly and now it is ready for paint. I am curious if your directory has any history on this car. Supposedly I got it for the original owners son who sold it after dad who was original owner died. Who knows but at least it was repairable and nor butchered up. Let me know. #1579 This car was owned by Ross Lee (phoenixtigermoon@ntlworld.com) in England in the summer of 2003. He was having problems getting it started. It was previously owned by David Rowinski, a Member in the military stationed in England. He bought it from another serviceman, Ray Kreiner who was then believed to have returned to the Baltimore area. Here on offer is a rare chance to purchase this Chevrolet Vega with a 2 liter Cosworth engine. Starting price at just £150, no reserve!! I am selling this vehicle on my site for a good friend of mine, I have seen the car, but i am no specialist but feel free to ask any questions. The car obviously a left hand drive, recorded mileage 36,872, was manufactured in 1975 and was imported from the U.S. in 1976, it has since changed ownership only once to my friend in 1999, it has been in use until a few months ago, and is now no longer required, since then it has sat in a yard for the best months of the year, we have tried to start the vehicle without success, there appears to be a problem with the fuel pump or supply somewhere, having tried to turn the engine over too many times we now have a flat battery. This is now an opportunity for someone to put this right with reasonable ease, as none of us are mechanically minded we haven’t the time or inclination. The bodywork is very good, the interior with full leather seats is also very tidy, to be honest this car needs towing away, some minor correction to re-start it, and a good wash, oh and an m.o.t and tax and away you go. This is a road worthy car!! The car is available to view in the Harrogate area of North Yorkshire, call me on 01423-863090 or ask seller a question. October, 2003.
Owner writes: the VIN is 1v77e5u260620. I think the number on the dash 1579. You've got me on the white sticker numbers. This is something I never noticed or looked at. I could probably have someone find out and get back to you on that. Is that ok? Here are more facts in anticipation to other questions you may have: it is the 2-liter, 4-cylinder, injected engine from Cosworth. It is the original. It is rear-wheel drive. The recorder mileage is around 36,000. The previous owner never drove it in the winter and it only went out on sunny days. He had other vehicles, so this was his "to church on Sunday" car. An addition to his family meant a subtraction in his number of toys. The engine did run not so long ago. I think it is a fuel problem - maybe injectors or maybe the engine control unit that pulses the injectors. The ECC unit had been replaced. There are similar units that will work. I just haven’t had much of a chance to investigate that. It certainly has a spark at the plugs. The wheels - all 5 - have been redone in the last year with powder coating. It passed an mot last time it was running. I have put in a new water pump, battery, plugs, ignition cables, distributor cap points, etc. I was also putting in things like a rear window defroster. The element is mounted on the window and it works. I think this was an option that was not taken. I don't see how anyone would omit this when buying a car. But then, the previous owner was neither mechanical, nor did he drive it in foul weather. The drive train is ok, just wear and tear of 36, 000 miles. It has a Borg-Warner 4 speed. I was also going to put in an interval windscreen wiper. Got as far as buying the parts. I have back issues of the Vega club newsletters and shop manuals. The exhaust is stainless steel so there is no problem there. If I had the time to work on it as a hobby, I would keep it. I would rather pass that on to someone else who can. It is a rare and unusual vehicle with only 3500 made. Number 1579 would be right near the middle of the production. If you have any more questions, let me know. Thanks. Hi guys: just wanted to introduce myself as the new owner of #1579 that had a few postings a few months back and guess what, it still doesn’t run. However I have found a damaged ECU. It has a burnt circuit board track that can probably be repaired but also a blown diode. That was the probable reason of the printed circuit board (pcb) track failure. I suspect that the battery may have been shorted or something to cause this. Now to my question: the offending diode has a marking gi on it. I need to know what type and rating of component this is, i.e. a Zener type or whatever. (This is the question I have been told to ask you guys who may be in the know, by a work friend who does bits and pieces in electronics.) Unfortunately I have left the unit at work and can't remember the pcb diode component number, there are about a half dozen other diodes that all look of a similar construction on the pcb (some a little larger) (gray ceramic with gi printed on it and a thin black band on one end that denotes the polarity). Can anyone shed some light on this/these components? Any help will be appreciated. I will try and post the actual pcb component # tomorrow. Thanks in advance guys. Dave
Dave sold the car, and it is now owned by Colin Herbst, as of June of 2009. Colin wrote your Ed. the following: Hi Mark: My name is Colin and I’m emailing you from England. I’m the proud owner of Vega Cosworth number 1579 which I bought a few years ago and which is on the road and a joy to drive. I get a lot of looks as the Vega is a rare car in England, but I still have lots of bodywork refurbishment to do - the number one job is the body panel at the bottom of the windscreen. Whilst on the CVO site, I noticed you are selling a Trailing Arm Mount for a Vega, and wondered if you had any other Vega parts, especially the lower windscreen panel I need. Would be great to hear from you with details of this. Many Thanks. Kind regards. Colin Black/ Black Vinyl
