Jay Hovick bought 1973 from Jay Matthews around 9/1/2021. There was a torn down engine that was stored inside the car (unknown if it is the original to the car).

Jay Matthews bought it in California around 1983 from David Galasso in Covina, California... then moved it to Norfolk, Nebraska around 1986. It was non running when moved to Nebraska, so it never saw Winter's salty roads.

#1977 A Chris Wheaton car. Inspired by Ron Miller’s #3177 (see p. 17, October 1989 Cosworth Vega Magazine). Offered for sale in September of 2007. Chris wrote: I am considering selling Cosworth 1977. I don't seem to have the time to take it to shows anymore and I would like to see it out in the limelight more than I can seem to do it. Anyway, I may put it on eBay. If anyone on here is interested, shoot me an email. For those of you that don't know which car that is, it is the red show car. There are pictures on cosworthvega.com and also in the photo section on this group. Probably the most extensively done Cosworth show car out there, I don't know of any that would come close. I don't necessarily have a firm price in mind but to give you an idea, it would definitely have 2 digits to the left of the coma. Take care, Chris Wheaton Black/ Black Vinyl VIN- 272413

He lost interest and told me one day that he was going to come by and pick up the engine so he could sell it at the Pomona swap meet. When he showed up, he told me that he wanted me to buy it and would sell me everything for $3000. I agreed and started rebuilding the motor. It is a sleeved block, with stock compression 8.5:1 pistons. I finished building the car in 1998 and getting running while then adding more upgrades like custom Monza seats with matching door panels and Vegamods front and rear spoilers over time. The VIN is 272413 and it was a black car with black vinyl interior. The car was seen at 2 CVOA roundups, ’99 and ’04 and has been sitting since the ’04 roundup.

This car was owned by Brian Sanchez in the mid 90’s. He put thousands of dollars into it including a red paint job, a custom stereo system with a speaker box to replace the back seat, he bought a Weber carb set up from Tim Morgan, and spent a lot of money having parts gold araldite coated and then changed his mind and had everything chromed. He had a shop build the engine but they messed it up and after about 12 miles, the engine started making some bad noises. After not having any luck with the mechanics, he brought the engine to me, Chris Wheaton and I was going to help him rebuild it.

#1982 Offered for sale on eBay in November, 2003 in Austintown (near Youngstown). Greenwood Chevrolet. A classic 1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega black two-door coupe, numbered vehicle #1982, four-cylinder 16 valve DOHC dual overhead cam engine with four-speed transmission. Well maintained, great running car. Clean chassis, original paint, needs very little work done to have a classic restoration. New tires. VIN 1V77E5U272591.
Car was viewed by Brian Harpst who reported: I actually heard about this car just before Thanksgiving - that it was on the front row at Greenwood's, but with a price of $1500 on the windshield. It didn't seem plausible, and - never mind that I'm not ready for a second Cos just yet and couldn't afford even that much for one right now - I really had to wonder how bad a car it was for that kind of money. Though that's about an hour from here, curiosity got the better of me whilst shopping down in the Shenango Valley last Saturday afternoon, and I made a side trip to Austintown (on the west side of Youngstown). I didn't really expect the $1500 figure to be true, but was surprised to see $4295 on the windshield. Of course, the auction images don't reveal the true condition of the car, but it's worse than you'd think.
While there might be some original paint left, the hood roof and hatch have been re-sprayed, and somewhat sloppily. In fact, the hatch had been replaced with a used one from a green car (judging form telltale burn through) - suggesting collision damage. Curiously, the lower body - fender bottoms, door bottoms, rear wheel opening lips - appeared to be solid, but the wheelhouses were covered in red primer (over the factory rust proofing material). Without putting the car on a lift, I couldn't say whether it was a solid original or had lower metal work. The seats are in incredibly good shape, but the carpet is badly faded; when you consider what you'd have to remove to properly dye it, one might as well replace it. The dash plastic has been irreparably been carved up to accommodate some sort of aftermarket stereo radio, and the rear quarter trim (in the back seat area) has had holes cut in it to accommodate 5-1/4" speakers.
The dash bezel is badly faded. It seems to me the car had suffered from prolonged out door exposure. Not only was the carpet badly faded, but the inside handles for the swingouts were pitted; factoring in the green paint show-through, that at least suggests that this car at sat outside without its hatch for some time. Even the blackout on headlamp bezels was faded and thin. Yet, there was a familiar old black an gold club sticker (the style I prefer) in the left quarter window. So, I suspect this car was rescued by a well-intentioned club member, but - for whatever reasons – he never fully finished the work needed. Brian

Tom Lippert reports receiving an email from the guy that bought the car: “I was lucky this past summer and picked up #1982, with 46000 miles. The car is in really nice shape. I have it stripped and am restoring it. The only bad spot was the battery tray, everything else is beautiful. It was undercoated, and the car came from Ohio. What I was wondering is where I can find this part aftermarket. I can’t seem to find much at all. Thanks for your time...Craig” Black/ Black Vinyl
