According to Duke Williams' December, 1995 Regional Newsletter, "Darol Burgess ran #2781 in the
Silver State Classic Challenge on September 27, 1995 and finished in the 100 mph Division of the Touring
Class at an average speed of 94.6 mph....The five‐speed 4.10 axle and 205/60‐13 tires yield 20 mph per
1000 rpm in top gear and Darol limited his revs to about 5500 or about 110 mph. He was radar gunned
at 103 crossing the finish line, and at 105 near the halfway point. He is believed to be the only Cosworth
Vega owner to ever run the Classic.

This Cosworth became mine June of 83. We went on lot's of adventures together. An extra in the movie
contact, with Jodi foster. We helped with the CVOA roundup in 1999 at the Imperial Palace Hotel and
Casino in Las Vegas, and had a great time at Laguna Seca raceway when Chevrolet was the marque.
Now for the car. The black paint is original, except for the hood. The good news is that you can tell he
has no body damage or rust; the not so good news is that the lacquer has begun to check. He looks great
to me, but you may think he needs new paint. The original white interior along with the carpet and
headliner are very very very nice. The cos has been resting since 2000 with other limited production
friends. Poor health suggests my Cosworth would have much more fun with a new friend. He sounds
great and looks pretty fine. The chrome smog tubes are missing along with his jack, but he does have his
orig. Cosworth spare wheel & tire. His gold dashboard is excellent. His number is 2787, a late 76. We are
his second owner and his mileage is 42,112. What does it need? That will be up to you. If you have any
questions please just ask. $6,250 .00 no reserve Tarzana, CA.

For some reason the 2790 number has stuck in my head all these years, but it may be a screw up.
Anyway, I'll look for the VIN. I think I originally paid 5700 dollars for it. It was Orange/Tan and had no
A/C. It was also a 4 speed. I have some great stories and memories about that car. I was so in love with
this car I washed it EVERY day. Shame it was so problematic. It was delivered with gold decals on the
driver side and black decals on the other. The dealer laughed when I pointed that out. When they
replaced the black passenger side with gold, (I thought they would replace the gold side with black) they
left a permanent greasy black thumbprint under the clear portion and refused to fix it. So I had an
orange Cosworth with gold decals and a huge thumbprint. The left front shock was missing the bottom
attachment bolt from the factory. The EFI computer went out four times. After the fourth one Chevrolet
told me they would not cover any more under warranty. The air box boots split. One windshield wiper
assembly flew off (of course in a rainstorm). The left rear window latch broke. The speedo went out
three times. The transmission failed (not a defect). After Friendly Chevrolet in Dallas diagnosed the
speedo problem as the wrong gear in the transmission, they returned it to me without lube, frying all
the bearings. The tach went out once. The fuel pump quit three times. The car would randomly quit
while driving for a few seconds, except when a service technician was testing it. Friendly told me to stop
bringing it to them for warranty repairs and this problem was never resolved. I went to GM service
regional level and they only offered to continue trying to fix it, even though Friendly said don't come
back. Friendly was the only Dallas dealer that had sent a mechanic to the Cosworth school. Out of total
frustration (as well as a ride to work) I parked it in the GMAC parking lot and dropped the keys in the
mail slot. It was one of the saddest days of my life. That being said, I still loved that car and would love
to give it another try! What do nice Cosworths go for these days? I noticed one on the website for 3k. Is
that the usual price? How hard is it to find parts? Thanks again, Keith Sheeley

In March of 2010 he listed it again. I’m listing my 1976 Cosworth Vega # 2801 that i have owned for a
few years, the car is in original un‐restored condition with just over 8700 original miles, the spare tire
has never been removed from the car, there is no rust on this Vega. I just replaced the original tires
because the one front tires belt started to shift (thirty some year old tires are not safe), anyway the new
owner gets the old tires with the car, there were a few minor dings that I had removed by dent wizard to
save the original paint, I’m sure if you go over the car you can find minor imperfection if you look hard
enough. But I’m not listing this car as a time capsule! It is over thirty years old and it was on the road, I
have some paperwork but not the original bill of sale or window sticker, the car is locate in Clayton,
Delaware 19938 for inspection. I have been in contact with the second owner that purchased the car
from the original owner with 1700 miles on it and I will pass this man’s name on to the new owner, the
car runs and drive really well, the interior is mint with some sun bleach in the rear seat, I have over 50+
pictures of the car but will only place a few on eBay, the glass in the car is mint condition as well, i have
only put around 300 miles on it since i purchased it ( mostly driven to car shows and around the
community to keep the fluids moving, i change the oil once a year regardless, the car is a very clean
original Cosworth # 2801, I don’t drive the car enough to keep it and I hate to see it just sit! I’m not a
Vega expert so please ask questions before you bid so I can verify the information i have provided, the
description I have given is only my personal opinion. Anyway I’m sure i have missed some details. I will
require a $ 300.00 non‐refundable deposit at the end of the auction, the remaining balance will be due
within 5 days after the auction ends, I will accept a certified bank check or personal check as final
payment (I will hold the car until the funds clear) if you want to take the car with you that day please
bring cash and then we will go to my bank where you can purchase a bank check. This car is being sold
as is where is with no warranty implied or expressed, I’m not a dealer or broker and I personally own
this car free and clear. I can also personally deliver this car to you in a enclosed trailer for $ 1.65 per mile
via MapQuest. I will require the shipping paid in advance prior to shipment, please call me direct with
any question you might have @ 302‐218‐4717, I will not disclose the reserve amount on eBay, I’m not
interested in any trades , Thanks for Looking and Good Luck

March, 2008, eBay. Hi Welcome to my Auction! I’m listing my 1976 Cosworth Vega Vin
#1V7706U196181 with 8600 Original Miles on it!, as you can see in the pictures it is completely original!,
it still has the original tires on it! the car starts up and runs great, i have been in contact with the past
owner of 22 years and will pass this person on to the new owner, the paint is completely original with
only a few minor dings on the doors due to being parked in close quarters (I will have The Dent Wizard
roll these out if the car meets its reserve of 10K!!! to save the original paint. The interior is excellent
with the seats in mint condition, there is a little sun bleach on the top of the rear seat as you can see it
in the picture, and the carpet is in excellent shape also, this car rides exceptionally well even with the
original bias ply tires on it. The car drives like it was new. With only 8600 miles on it, it should. The car is
currently insured and tagged, I think the production # is 2801 (see in photo) everything works on this car
including the clock, there is no rust on this car (you Vega guys know these cars rusted out quickly), it has
a ton of Ziebart coating all over it with the original Ziebart stickers still on the windows. There are no
leaks on this car that I can recall. It still has the original windshield wiper blades on it! I am going to rate
this car as an original survivor, I highly recommend all possible bidders to personally inspect this vehicle
to verify my description (I’m not a Cosworth collector so I don’t know everything and this limited edition
car.) This car is being sold as is where is with no warranty implied or expressed; this car is for pick‐up
only with no shipping. I can personally deliver this car to you for a fee of $1.75 per mile via MapQuest in
an enclosed trailer. I have this car for sale in the local area so the auction may end early. I require a
$200.00 NON‐REFUNDABLE deposit within 24hrs after the auction ends. I accept certified bank checks
and PayPal. Please check out my other auctions. I’m not a dealer just a collector and all of my items are
mine! (I don’t sell for other people.) The car is located in Clayton, Delaware for inspection. Please email
me with any questions you might have to better describe this vehicle to you or you call me @ 302‐659‐
5780 (please leave a message if I’m out and I will call you that day). Thanks for Looking and Good Luck!

This blue car appeared on eBay in August of 2009. The VIN is 1V77O6U196560. It has 57,000 miles and
is located in Charlottesville, VA. It has "two very minor chips on the passenger side. They are not rock
chips and they have never bothered me." According to the description in the listing, "Up for auction is
my sweet memory 1976 Cosworth Vega. The engine is original and built for GM by racing specialists
Cosworth of England. The mileage is original at under 57,000. The paint is fresh and beautiful and a very
rare (1 of 11) blue. This is a rust free Georgia car and it's a blast to drive. Very good and honest all
around car. Not many left in this kind of original condition. Does not use oil and no leaks anywhere.
Included is the original owner's manual and previous titles. This car was built when all the bugs had
been worked out and includes a rare 5 speed manual transmission, 4.10 rear and flip out rear windows.
The interior is all original with only one 3" separation in the seam of the passenger seat. The rear seat
folds down for additional storage. Everything works including the speedo and tach, gauges and clock.
Pick this one up and drive it back to California if you like. Needs nothing for the trip.
