Instagram post. Engine shot with weber carbs

There I was checking stuff on one of the cars still not sleeping over at HQ. One of the guys accompanying me, still learning to drive, told me he was looking for a first car. And it had to be American. And there she was, totally surprising: a Chevy Vega. Wait, what’s that “Cosworth” script doing on it’s valve cover… Needless to say it was bought (not by me!) after checking if it is the real deal (thanks @fuldamobil!).
PS. Way before VW’s diesel gate there was an emission scandal and according to @flyingkarl this was the first. Even fuel injection couldn’t save it. And as the fuel injection wasn’t exactly trouble free most of ‘em have been converted to carburetors.

It's a Breda, the Netherlands resident nowadays @buddyleejjc2. It was imported, I assume from the USA, into the Netherlands in 2001. First registration was 28 October 1975. The current owner is quite young, maybe the youngest Vega Cosworth owner in the world (18)!

I bought a '75 Cosworth (I believe it was #225) from Mills Chevrolet in Moline IL‐‐off the showroom
floor. I owned it for 3 years when I blew a head gasket and needed an engine rebuild. Luckily I had a 3
yr optional warranty that covered the repairs. When I eventually got the car back (Warren Chevy in East
Moline did the repairs), I put it in the garage and stored it. Sometime in the early 80s a teenage boy and
his father knocked on my door and said they had heard I had a Cosworth and was I willing to sell it. We
eventually worked out a deal and they drove it away. I believe they were from central IL, around the
Peoria area. I was wondering if this car is registered. The boy had contacted me a few times after that
just to BS, but we lost touch. I have fond memories of that car. Anyway, if it is registered, would it be
possible to get contact information of the owner or at least forward my contact info to them. Also, are
there any docs to verify the production number that was 35 years ago? I do have some old pictures but
would really have to look to dig them up. Other than that I gave everything to the buyer, all service
receipts, window sticker and such. If I remember I paid around $6300 or $6400 for the car. I am in San
Antonio now and my house is in DFW, and I won’t be back until the first of the month for the
weekend. If I get the time I’ll ask my wife where the old photo albums are and see if I can find and
pics. I remember blowing doors off of the old Datsun Z’s ‘cause they didn’t know what it was. I
remember racing a Vette once on John Deere Road in Moline, I think it is now I‐5 and goes all the way to
Chicago. We ran even to 125mph. That was back in the day without traffic. Thanks for the info I will
keep in touch. I drive a LS1 Trans AM now, still like the speed. LOL. Tim Schafer, Mainframe

A parts car bought by Jim Kays of Paris TX in about 2007. Badly rusted in the floorpan, trailing arms not
attached to the body. Bad rebuild on the engine and it hydrauliced a cylinder and split it. It had Webers
and large sway bars, an open differential. The car came from Illinois.

According to Duke Williams' March, 1995 Regional Newsletter, this car was "recently returned back to
life with a new paint job and powder coated wheels. It also has a "fresh 9.5 to 1 engine with COE valves
and one of Bob Maloy's/Neil Williams' infamous big bore throttle bodies. Owned by Don Volden.

Owned by Wally Van Vyne of Michigan. In April of 2007 John Cowall reported: Hi Mark! I finally got a
hold of Wally Van Vyne. This car is his "baby", the body is restored and the paint is better than Lou's car.
The bumpers came back this week from polishing & powder coating. The suspension is off, these have
been powder coated. The engine is being rebuilt. He wants to enter it at Autorama, hopefully next year.
He's said that for four year now, but he's moved and has built a 50 x 40' workshop in his yard. He's in the
process of building a "mezzanine" to store his cars on. He knows the previous owner, Rich Weiss, and
they are in contact once a year or so. John Cowall

I was a member of CVOA many years ago. I was the original owner of #0232. I sold it in 1988. Do you
have any idea what happened to it or who owns it now? Thank you. Bruce Booth
I now live in Petoskey. I bought the car new from Draper Chevrolet in Saginaw when I lived there. I sold
it to someone in the Detroit area. It had about 56K miles on it when I sold it. It was a nice running car.
The paint was a bit crazed as lacquer does get with age but still quite a nice looking vehicle. It had never
been in an accident. I hated to sell it but with a space limitation it had to go. Bruce
I live in Petoskey, Michigan now. There are only a few mods that I did to the car. They are as follows: I
added an oil pressure gauge in the dash in the place of the clock ( it was a matching type out of a Pontiac
as I remember), I removed the chrome emission tubing that is screwed into the header, I removed the
catalytic converter, I added rear side flip out windows, Air shocks, and I added a rear spoiler. Here is a
scan of the original window sticker. I have also included 3 pictures from 1976 and one from 1986 after
the spoiler and white letter tires were added. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Bruce

According to a January 2013 email from dbutton, "Back in the day I worked at a Chevy dealer and was
the main technician for Vegas, rebuilt a ton of engines! and was sent to Cosworth training so I have the
training books and special tools that were sent to the dealer. I would like to sell them to someone who
can use them. Is there a way for me to list the items for sale without joining? By the way at the training
we worked on car #14 and my dealer sold car #234, this one sat in the showroom for over 2 years, I
always wondered if they are still out there?

I owned 1975 #235 in around 1977. It had around 8000 miles when I purchased it for around $3200. Was owned by an sprint car driver named Arnie Kennepper??. Had the power band curve of a Honda CR500… Definitely knew when it hit 3500+. Still think a 283 2 barrel swap would have had more power. One of the coolest things was hanging out with buddies at the local hangout in cold weather, walking over starting it up and listening to it go from fast idle to normal idle in about 3 steps (like a carburetor with a mechanical step choke) by itself. Buddies were just amazed. Engine had many features such as 4 valves per cylinder, dual overhead cams, electronic fuel Injection, header exhaust that became the norm years later……..went to texas from Illinois around 1979 with 15,000 miles. Wonder it it’s still around!

This (vin) Tag is/was originally affixed to a 1975 Chevrolet Motor Division Vega body assembled at Lordstown, OH. The Lordstown factory installed a Cosworth Vega engine that had been assembled in Tonawanda, NY into this body. It then built this vehicle as a Cosworth Vega model. It was the 206226th Vega built for this production year.
The Lower Left Corner of the BODY TAG of this car should read: 206226C90.
Originally white interior car. Swing out windows.
198? Sold by previous owner in Florida to J.B. Reardon in Columbus, Ohio.
J.B. removed engine (not in running condition?) for use in another Cosworth project
Engine currently in 0235 was from another of J.B.'s Cosworths. (condition - TBD)
1991 Sold by J.B. Reardon to Kevin Connair in Columbus, Ohio
(languishing in pre-restoration purgatory from 1991 to 2019)
Car moved to Warner Robins Georgia in disassembled state.
White interior plastic parts disintegrated from prior to exposure to Florida Sunshine.
Purchased replacement black interior trim parts from Chris Wheaton
Work restarted on gathering parts for resto-mod of 0235.
