I just joined the club and just wanted to say hello. I have a '76, 5‐speed, number 3412, but it has seen
too many mid‐western winters. It has a lot of cancer, especially in the floor around the driver's side
rocker panel, so I am afraid it may be terminal. It's a shame especially since it is a mahogany car with
the Skytrends sunroof. I am keeping my eyes open for a good '76 body or complete car, if you know of
any. Somewhere within a reasonable distance of Chicago would be preferred. I am a member of the
CVOA, but many of the cars listed in the magazine are on either coast. Chuck

Yahoo Post 06/14/2006. I sold it back to Bill Evans, who took out the engine and trans and scrapped the rest. It was pretty rusty. I'll have to do some digging to see if I still have the VIN.

I have a '77 Vega wagon with an incredibly clean red (sorry, I don't know the proper color name) interior but no
engine, and #3412 Mahogany Cosworth I would be interested in parting with. The Cos has a Skytrends sunroof, so
naturally because of being in northern Illinois, the floor is partly gone. But the drivetrain (with 5-speed) is there. If
you might be interested, I'm at cosvega76@yahoo.com. Chuck

Still has it in April of 2004 according to a Yahoo post. “I also have a '76 Cosworth, #3412. The floors are bad, but
has a complete fuel-injected engine, 5-speed, and two rear ends: a 3.73 open, and a 4.10 posi (or is it the other way
around? I'd have to look again). I'd take $800 for the wagon, $1200 for the pair. I'm in northern Illinois. I can email
you photos, if you wish. Chuck Ed.

Chris and gang: An ad in the St. Petersburg Times newspaper selling a 1976 CV appeared this weekend. I
called the seller and here is the saga. It is series number 3413. The car is owned by a fellow named Jeff
in Zephyrhills, FL, (yes that is the correct spelling ‐ one word) just outside Tampa. His telephone number
is 813‐788‐7365. The car now has a 400 cid. small‐block Chevy in the engine bay attached to a 700R4
tranny and a set of 2.96 rear gears out of a Camaro. His excuse for the swap was that a previous
owner(s) drove the car without antifreeze, badly corroding the inside of the engine. He said the rebuild
would have cost him well over $2,000, that NOS parts are too expensive, and that it is too difficult to
find parts. It made more sense to him to put the money into the swap rather than restore the car.
When I asked about the CV engine, header, wire harness, brain box, etc., he replied that all of that stuff
was useless and worthless so he junked all of it! It is gone! It is history! He said that he had the original
wheels "restored?" and they are on the car. The dash bezel is intact, but is getting old and he removed
the series plaque number, which he still has. The car he says is a brownish gold (?) with a brown interior.
The stripes are faded badly and he started to paint the jamb areas a metallic blue color. So that is the
current saga of #3413. Oh yeah, he wants $3,000 or obo for the car and remaining parts. Ahem, any
takers? Yeah, right! Another one bites the dust. Al, I'm proud of you. Glad you solved your problem
and saved yours. JD Yahoo Board Post 9650 10/24/2002

Jerry, Thanks for the E-mail contact. You are correct in that the address should be WA for Washington State. We moved from Orange Park FL, your region, in 2007 out here. SO the answer to your registry question is #3417 is located in Oak Harbor Washington. New address below.
We have been inactive for the past year due to work commitments taking over, literally taking over life, and many other competing interests. I will visit the new site and register again as I do desire to get involved again as time permits. We are restoring #3417 and my son is now taking an interest in the car. I also have #1514 that I have owned since 1987 and has been at a couple of roundups, most recently the San Francisco Roundup.

Rumor had it this was/is a firethorn car belonging to a guy named Joe in Philadelphia who works for a
Yamaha resto parts shop. But Dan McNally’s March 1996 newsletter has it listed as “CV #3420,
blue/white, 18,000 miles, 5‐speed, swing outs, rear defogger, and lots of documentation. Randy Borley,

I purchased 3421 in Florida somewhere in the mid 1990s. Saw it in Hemmings in a full page ad from Raiders Relics. Short version, I took a 24 hour bus trip the Winter Heaven. Inspected the car and found that there was a large rust hole in front of the steering box. Mr. Raider was anxious to sell so he cut the price by about half. So needless to say the next day I was on my way north driving the Vega. All when well and I stopped in South Carolina for lunch. When I tried to start the car it was a no go. Called AAA and the tow guy said it would take time to diagnose even though I told him it was the fuel pump. Disgusted I told him to push the car to the motel next door. There was a NAPA store about a block away. I knew there was no power to the fuel pump so I walked to the store and purchased some wire, quick connectors and stripping pliers. Found the fuel pump wiring but also needed to find a power source. Taillights! That's it so I ran a power wire from the right taillight to the fuel pump and boom it was alive again. Drove the rest of the way home to PA with the parking lights on.
I found a very good radiator support and front frame rail ends at a U pick it place and used it to repair the rusted out frame. The rest of the car was in pretty good shape. It is a 5 speed but I'm not sure if it started life that way. It seems that the speedometer shows 10 mph slower than what you are actually traveling. I replaced the timing belts which I purchased from CVOA years ago along with a hood pad and replacement number plate that is still in the box as received. My dash was never gold but silver machine turned with the number plate attached to it. I used the body number decoder and everything fits except the VIN. CVOA show that the VIN should be 1V77E5U231195C. The VIN on the car is 1V7706U231195 which should be correct for a 76 model.
I do take the car out to some shows. It's not perfect but good enough for me. It is in my small storage building so I grabbed a couple of quick photos. Sorry for the quality.

1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega
1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega serial number 3422. 122ci 4 cyl, 4 speed, 71,777 miles., dual carbs. This car was a nostalgic anniversary gift from our daughter and son-in-law 10 years ago. We have enjoyed outings in it and it only needs a fuel pump to get back on the road but it is time for someone else to love it. With a little TLC it can be a daily driver or an enthusiast can take it on to restore to it’s original glory.
1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega
Car has been garaged since we’ve owned it. Tires and battery are 3 years old but have less than 100 miles on them. Includes several boxes of parts passed on from the prior owner — most significant are left and right interior side panels for the rear cargo area.
The title has been misplaced and NH will not re-issue titles for cars older than 1998 but we will, of course, provide a bill of sale.
1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega
Full disclosure:
Has fuel delivery problem. Will start and run briefly with starting fluid but not getting fuel to the carb. Fuel filter replaced so it’s probably a fuel pump.
Prior owner replaced the fan with an electric fan and manual switch under the dash.
Hood release cable is broken. “Tool” provided in case you accidentally latch it before that’s fixed.
Prior owner moved the battery to the rear spare tire compartment.
