The dash plaque from this car appeared on eBay in May of 2004. It came in a toolbox that was picked up
at an estate sale. We will presume that this car, apparently like the owner, is RIP. “It's cleaning time! At
that means your chance for rare automotive items, aviation items, music, books, and other stuff. Be sure
to see my other auctions. This is an original dash plate in poor condition for a Cosworth Vega, number
0664. This was in a toolbox I got at an estate sale.” Black/ Black Cloth VIN‐?

The dash plaque from this car appeared on eBay in December of 2005. According to the lister, “The car
had a fire and the owner left it sit in a field and rust away. I took all the parts that were salvageable and
scrapped the rest. This was about 8 years ago. Thank you.”

This car was parted out in September of 2009. The parts were offered on eBay by Ira West. The
odometer said 42,281. It is being parted out in Scottsburg, IN. According to the ad for the dash, “This
car showed 42,000 miles on the odometer, but the speedometer cable was unhooked when I got it, so it
is hard to say how many miles are on this item. I am parting out this car and will have many other
Cosworth items to be followed up with the body last, so please check out my other auctions for No
Reserve auctions on hard to find items.“

“Sorry, I am not a cvoa member. Would love to be, but I can't afford it right
now. I once owned cv 0674, caught fire due to a problem with the fuel pump.
Continued running when the car was shut off. Fuel line somehow came off
and sprayed fuel on the header. Don't know where the spark came from, but I
suspect a short somewhere. With the fuel pump still running it fed the fire and
the car was a total loss. That was the only cv I ever owned. Maybe one day I
will own another one. My name is Rodney Ford, Address is 3424 Flat Rd.
Lakeland, Florida. Email is rodneyford73@gmail.com. Phone number is 863-
272-4098. I do love your website. "
" Unfortunately, I don't have, or know the vin number. However, I do know the
car had rear swing out windows, rear Defog, I believe it was A.M. radio, 3.73
rear axle, non posi. Mileage is only a guess, as the speedometer stopped
working, about 95,000 is my best guess. No idea who the original owner was.
If purchased locally, it would have been Ray Durdan Chevrolet in Lakeland,
(Now Regal Chevrolet). I remember looking at one on the showroom floor.
Could have been the same car. Before the car burned, I was in the process of
restoring it. I had replaced the carpet, brake and clutch pedal pads, plug
wires, plugs, dash cover(?) Rebuilt top half of engine (complete head),
speedometer gear, clutch, clutch cable (it was badly frayed). After all this, I
had the car painted in black Imron, that required taking the paint and primer
off down to bare metal. It needed some body work, but was gorgeous when it
was finished. It was like looking into a mirror.I was trying to save up to rebuild
the rest of the engine when the fire happened. I could have cried. This was
the only collector car I ever owned. The only things salvageable were the back
tires and wheels which were used on my 1980 Sunbird which was later stolen.
Oh, and the dash number, which I have been unable to find. I had to pay to
get the car hauled off. Junkyard wouldn't even take it. My guess is, it went to a
scrapyard. I really miss that car. If I can remember anything else, I'll let you
know. I no longer have pictures, lost them in a house fire about 7 year

BBJIMMCN@AOL.COM I just found your site through an article in Autoweek magazine. Well done! I
have been the owner of 1975 #0675 since new; it was purchased at Spence Chevrolet in Daytona Beach,
Florida in 1976. It now resides in Maine. Not registered since 1982, it will eventually be restored.

This car belonged to Fritz Kayl, founder of Katech, Inc. Fritz was on the ground floor of the Cosworth
Development Project working in conjunction with Chevrolet Engineering during his four years as Engine
Technician and General Manager at McLaren Engines. John Cowall somehow ended up with the car, and
it is being parted out in early 2002.
John, speaking of parting out, didn't you recently part out #0677? I just found an undated letter from
Katech, Inc. in a box of Cosworth stuff. It said that, "THE Cosworth Vega expert" Fritz Kayl, founder of
Katech, "is the owner of Cosworth No. 75‐0677." The letter mentions that they had worked out a
"turbo‐charged kit that increases power approximately 60% over stock (210 HP range) and are
considering marketing a kit for T.C. Vega Owners." Don't know whether they ever sold or installed any.
Just a bit o' trivia for this morning. Mark
As for the Fritz Kayl car, I am using it as a daily driver under dash plaque #1156. The #0677 plaque was
really messed up. As for the Katech motor, it is in a black 76, with firethorn interior. It once belonged to
Mark Grimm, but the current owner lives in Michigan. His name is Gerry Murphy, and has kept the car
in great shape. Later, John J. Cowall
Actually, let me fill in a few missing parts. The original engine in Fritz's car was the first converted 2.3L
CV, standard Vega crank, nose turned down for CV pulley, 10:1 CR, standard cams and Dellorto 50mm
carbs. It was converted while he still worked at McLaren Engines. The engine from #2654 was traded
for the 2.3L because Katech planned to sell it and didn't think it would sell with the 2.3L. There was only
one turbo put together, spent some of its life in the prototype Monza Mirage. I was fortunate enough
to be one of Katech's first private customers and the relationship allowed me to purchase almost all of
the turbo setup, only missing a bypass valve and the exhaust pipe off the turbo. Dick
Black, black perforated vinyl, parted out in 2001. VIN 1V77E5U217928. AM, rear speaker, cloth
headliner, floor mats, defogger, swingouts, tinted glass.
EFI Setup was #0716/ Per John J. Cowall
(Car is still technically alive, Re‐VIN as CV #1156). When John J. Cowall got the car, it had a bogus 1974
VIN plate on it. Car had been stored in the Old Packard Plant. Bought at auction by a guy in Michigan
who is a Pontiac Fanatic. He sold it to the Cowalls in 2003? (not sure of the date) I located the VIN
stamped on the inner wheel well. CV #1156 was parted out.

CV #677 RIP– Black/ Black vinyl. Bought this car from a Firebird fanatic in fall of 2000. He bought it at an auction for abandoned cars from the Old Packard Plant Storage. Car had a 74’ VIN on it, and the EFI computer had been tampered with, poorly. Engine it was from CV #2564, Dick Baumhauer’s first CV. We got the car running. (Funny story, car got nicknamed “Fire breathing Dragon” because, while working on it, I had the distributor off by 180 degrees while trying to get it running. Huge flames out of the exhaust from the wicked backfire! I spent 3 or 4 weeks dealing wit hthe backfiring, and couldn’t figure it out, finally realized the issue.) Car was originally owned by Fritz Kayl III, founder of Ka-Tech. The original engine from this car was one of the earliest 2.3L CV motors made! Dick B. traded his stock motor and cash to Fritz for the 2.3L motor. I put the VIN from CV #1156 on to this car, and used it as a daily driver for a few months. Ended up selling it in 2001 to Bob Vance for $1800.00(I think this was the price?) Bob Vance ended up moving the car on also, no known updated owner. (Cowall Owned 10-2000 to 7-2001)
