I am doing it again. Purchased 1386 a couple of months ago and can’t leave it alone as a nice car. Had to put a new tank and pump in it. Deleted the cat snd the rest of the exhaust, added a muffler where the cat was and added a side exhaust in front of the passenger rear. Always looking for a little more performance. Decided I want to put the indexed cam sprockets on it but needed some cores.
Then the next bad decision. Purchased a motor in Alabama, from 116, to get the sprockets. Now I am thinking to rebuild it to bump compression etc. What is wrong with me?
What advice on building a street motor to put it where Delorean thought it should be? I want it to look stock.

This car appeared on eBay in August of 2011 with 51,421 miles. It is located in Vincennes, IN. According
to the listing: "1975 Chevrolet Vega, Cosworth edition. Runs and drives. All original with 53,241 actual
miles. This vehicle is in need of work but is very restorable. Will need to be trailered or towed, not safe
to drive on streets. Brakes are not in proper working order. It has major internal fuel tank rust. I have
removed the tank and cleaned some rust and scale out but has too much damage to clean completely. It
has the typical rust found on most Vegas; hood (major), windshield area, battery tray, trunk/spare tire
area, floor boards at firewall kick up, etc. It has the original engine and 4 speed Saginaw manual
transmission. Fuel injection system is still complete, not converted to carburetors as a lot of these
models have been. The engine does run rich, and has blue smoke after running for a short period of time
and a slight knock on acceleration. I have driven it around on my property and on back roads. I am not
sure about the transmission, was hard to get into 3rd gear under power but have ran it through all the
gears while on a lift and it shifted fine. Lights and gauges are in need of attention, as they do not work
properly, as well as several other issues that are too numerous to mention. The interior is also in bad
shape. All I can tell that is missing is the upper timing belt cover and the A.I.R. tubes. It's not perfect but
it is a nearly complete piece of automotive history. I have several pics and can e mail them if requested.
The header was damaged at the flange by someone attempting exhaust work in the past. I have another
complete header for this. May throw it in if the buyer wants it. These are very rare cars with a total of
3508 built in 1975 and 1976. This is production # 124. These cars came from the factory with a dual
overhead cam, 4 valve per cylinder, 4 cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection and a stainless steel
header and cast aluminum wheels. Typical of present cars but unheard of in 1975. This car has cloth
interior, (the only Cosworth I have ever seen with it), rear window defroster, posi‐traction differential,
and hinged rear quarter windows. I purchased this car in 2002 from a guy who was delivering pizzas in it
and using it as daily transportation. It was owned by the same family from about 1978 to about 2000
and was stored for the majority of this time. They lost storage and sold it shortly after. I have a clear title
and have never plated it. It has sat since I purchased it except for occasional illegal test drives.... I don't
have the time needed to restore it and would never cut something like this up. Plenty of other Vegas to
do that to. If you have any questions, please ask before you bid. I will answer them as soon as I can and
be honest about the car. I will not part it out or sell it for less than what I feel it is worth." The one
exterior picture of the car makes it seem like it has been painted purple, but other photos make clear it
is black. There are no stripes. It still has the Cosworth wheels. The interior is trash, but it does have a
Hurst shifter, a posi., and swingout windows with the trim still attached, at least on the passenger side.
It has rust‐through holes everywhere, and is, in this author's opinion, merely a parts car.. The VIN is
1V77E5U198666.

Chris wrote: “I just purchased and received #125 on eBay….the battery tray is rotted as usual, and there
are a few pin holes in the sheetmetal behind the radiator near the battery area, but the frame looks ok.
The exhaust smells very rich, but there is no black smoke or oil smoke to speak of. The coolant temp
sensor under the thermostat housing has been disconnected and the wire has been bridged. The
previous owner states that it was bad and that this is why the car has a hard time starting and warming
up"

This car appeared on eBay in late 2008 and was bought for $4500 by Christopher J. LaPorte of Briston,
CT. He had it shipped from California and is presently (02/09) attempting to get it running and looking
good. The eBay ad read:
You are bidding on a very rare 1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Twin Cam Vega. This is number 0125 off the
production line. This is one special car. At the beginning of the 21st century, in the decade of the
"twenties", the Cosworth Vega still remains relevant to every car that comes down the road. Electronic
fuel injection, stainless steel headers, production cast aluminum wheels, 16 valves in hemispherical
combustion chambers, dual overhead belt driven camshafts, and pistons sliding directly on die cast
aluminum cylinder bores, were all pioneered by the Cosworth Vega. These elements are shared by a
host of modern automobiles today. RARE, with only 3508 manufactured, you may never encounter one
driving on the street. That is one of its many charms and attractions. As Car and Driver magazine
marveled and predicted in 1973:
Cosworth Vega‐16 valve. More than an engine. A taut muscled GT coupe to devistate the smugness of
BMW 2002tii's and 5 speed Alfa GTV's. A limited run of 4000 machines, each one built away from the
tumult of the assembly line to precision tolerances, as a show of technical force by Chevrolet. All of
them will be collector's items.‐‐‐‐‐Car and Driver,August 1973
According to a February 7, 1975 letter to all Chevrolet dealers, "The Vega Cosworth (RPO Z09) will
include the following option content;
‐122 CID Twin Cam Electronic Fuel Injection L‐4 Engine
‐"Cosworth Twin Cam" Body Side sand Rear End Decals
‐Black outside door handle inserts
‐Dual Sport Mirrors
‐Special Instrumentation Cluster incl. 7000 RPM Tach,Clock,Temp. Gauge, Voltmeter,Fuel Gauge.
‐Torque Arm Rear Suspension
‐4 Speed manual Transmission
‐Sport Steering Wheel w/Cosworth Insert
‐7 1/2" Ring Gear Axle, 3.73:1 Ratio
‐6" Cast Aluminum wheels‐Gold
‐Heavy Duty Radiator
‐Delux Bumpers ‐ Front & Rear
‐Front and Rear Stabilizers
‐Provisions for "fast steer" option
‐Black Painted Wipers
‐Black Painted Headlamp Bezels
‐BR70‐13 Blackwall Radial Tires
‐Air conditioning is not available
Gold pin striping‐front
I recently purchased this time capsule from a gentleman in Livermore, California. The car looked like
new with the exception of the exterior paint needed refreshing to match the "new like" interior. I had a
local high end body shop strip most of the original paint and respray it with a matching color base
coat/clear coat. I must say he did an awesome job on the paint (see the pictures). A complete new gold
decal kit was installed. Now the car looks new inside and out. The mileage on the car shows 24,587.
The prior owner said the speedometer quit working and needed a new cable. I am unable to verify if
this is actual mileage but from the looks and feel of the car, it is probably fairly close to this. The only
items left to perform on this car are:
‐Replace speedometer cable
‐The cold start sensor on the water thermostat housing needs to be replaced. The prior owner bypassed
it with a wire bridge.
‐The water pump has slight play in shaft and may require future replacement
‐The dash has 2 cracks in it that have been repaired. Not perfect but less noticable. A good vinyl dash
man can fix like new
‐Rear carpet is slightly sun faded
‐Driver seat has small rip on side (approx 1.5'' long)
Otherwise, this is an AWESOME example of a well preserved, low mileage, low production number
Cosworth Twin Cam Vega. It looks like new, feels like a new car, and is a blast to drive. If you have been
looking for a nice Cosworth Vega, look no further. This has got to be one of the nicer ones around.
Good luck Bidding. VIN is 1V77E5UI98759

Offered for sale by Steve in July of 2008: 1975 Cosworth #125. Runs great, no smoke, all original. Has
cloth seats, am radio, posi, front spoiler. Shows 25k and interior looks like it, but speedo does not work
due to transmission gear. Body is very straight, but will need paint as some of it has bubbled due to
previous owner storage tarp with in wet climate. This has caused minor rust spots on top but overall
pretty rust free. Runs, steers, handles, and brakes great. Overall a very nice presentable starting point
for a low number CV. Have extra parts and manuals.

Now (January of 08) owned by Steve Dossey of Livermore, CA. He writes: I purchased # 0125, VIN
#1V77E5U198759 from a guy in S.F. who owned it unregistered for 1 1/2 years. He purchased it from a
guy named Eric Lee Starling. Eric said he purchased it from a friend who purchased it from the original
owner in Texas. One of these guys belonged to the CVOA because of paperwork, patch, and copy of 3rd
quarter '95 CV magazine that came with the car. The car only has an AM radio, posi, and cloth interior. It
also appears to have an original dealer front spoiler and the FI numbers are 316. It has been “Ziebarted"
at every cavity, although it has some minor exterior rust in places. My exhaust is all stock pipe with a 2
1/4" muffler with a single tip outlet. I can't tell if it is running at peak tune as I haven't replaced the fuel
and air filter, plugs (any recommendations?), cap, module, or timed it. It feels sluggish at low revs but
goes good at high revs. When purchased it ran terrible and I pulled the injectors (Python name on them,
no numbers) and had them cleaned and tested. The difference was night and day. I presently have a
replacement chassis fuel pump issue, a dash gage unit that is falling, heater fan and air control problem,
non working speedo, no clutch end play, and a hatch water leak.”

Up for auction again in July of 2007 out of Vass, NC. The ad reads: “What we have here is an excellent example of the Cosworth Vega. I purchased it about a year ago from another Cosworth enthusiast and fellow C.V.O.A. member. This car has had all the typical maintenance and reliability issues that are common to the Cosworth dealt with by myself and the former owner to create a truly fun to drive and reliable car. This is by far one of the nicer cars I have seen on E‐bay in recent months. The interior is in extremely good condition, the engine compartment is detailed, and the body has no rust. It has the original paint with checking and light surface rust here and there but nothing major at all. Body work for a re‐spray is minimal as that is all this car needs to be nearly perfect. It is driven on a regular basis, runs great, and has plenty of power and no issues. I bought another play car so I must sell but hate to.
Here is a basic list of work, repairs and maintenance that has been done:
gas tank removed, cleaned and sealed.
New fuel pump and filter.
Injector O rings.
Brake system; wheel cylinders, calipers, rotors, master, pads, hardware, etc. ...new.
Both timing belts, water pump, plug wires, cap, rotor, K&N air filter, radiator flush.
Hi flow cat, custom head pipe, Flowmaster, dual resonator tips.
Sounds real nice, not too loud.
Shift knob, pedal pads, gold turned dash bezel...new
N.O.S. rebuilt clock.
New shocks, sway bar bushings, tires, wheels restored by WHEEL MEDIC.
All fluids changed including rear axle with POSI additive.
Hood insulation pad, door hinge pins, battery.
There might be a few more things I forgot...call 910‐988‐6524 with questions anytime and I will be happy to answer. Also have original build sheet and manuals. This car also has rear window defrost, rear speaker option, positraction differential, headlight reminder buzzer and the tach even works. I removed the P.A.I.R. but is included and can be reinstalled if needed. Definitely no disappointments here. NO reserve and good luck.

Offered for sale on eBay in October of 2006: 1975 Cosworth Vega – Number 0126. Cosworth Vega 0126, completely original, only 28,120 miles. I purchased this car in November 2003 from the second owner in Missouri. I have maintained the car and have replaced many items with NOS (New Old Stock) parts. This car runs and drives as any car from the 70’s era. Car is driven or started at least once a month. The maintenance history includes:
Front and rear NOS shocks
NOS Sway bar bushings
NOS Gold dash face
NOS Shifter knob
NOS rear speaker
New replica hood pad
Replica 70’s battery
All new heater hoses
All new fuel lines
All new brakes and wheel cylinder, calipers and master cylinder
NOS in tank fuel pump
Rebuilt external fuel pump
Fuel tank was removed cleaned and sealed
Clock and radio repaired‐ both work
All fluids changes, brake fluid, transmission, cooling fluid, and regular oil changes
New less restrictive catalytic converter and flow master exhaust – system was built to replicate original duel pipe system – only on 1975.
Wheels refinished by Wheel Medic
Fuel injector washers replaced
Everything works and the car is fun to drive. All it needs to be a show car is a new paint job. This is common requirement of all 70’s GM cars. I hate to part with it, but I have too many toys and I just do not have the time to give it the attention it needs. The VIN is 1V77E5U198882.
