This car, in pieces, appeared on eBay in September of 2007. The ad reads, “1975 Vega Cosworth #1661 parts car with clean title and dash and cowl tags in good shape. No engine or transmission. Car was cut up to start a drag car project but never really got started. Good only for some parts and title and vin number and cowl tag. Everything dirty from sitting outside a few years. Must be trailered away.” The car is in Mishawaka, IN, near South Bend. The mileage is listed as 100k. From the pictures it was black/black vinyl, and had swingouts. The front clip is off, the floor pan has been removed, it has much surface rust, and the seats are trash. The bumpers don’t look too bad.

According to a September 2009 email, this car belongs to Tom Westbrook. SN 1V77E5U263466, Engine stamp 15U26346. The last digit is overstamped with a 9 in a box. Other bell housing marks are an A in a box followed by 0716. The decal on the FI plenum is 2008, and another big "5" is on the bell housing flange. I've not checked the head or cam housing for numbers since no mirror was handy. Black throughout. Bought new in Niles OH.
I got a new GM timing belt for the distributor and cam with the car, as well as the ownership info and dealer info. Lots of Chevrolet service books came with it. The coolest thing is a full scale blueprint that says "1975 GM Original Control Print Schematic ECU-1A EFI (Group III) Bendix Fuel Injection". One of the owners of the car was a maintenance man in Plant 42 (Lordstown or Tonawanda?) and ended up with this original Blueprint. I also got a 1978 copy of the Cosworth Owners Registry. Rust in the usual places, rockers and door bottoms, but straight otherwise. Runs fine except water pump leaks. Ordered one of those today. I plan to tackle the project as soon as the part comes in.
I purchased this car on September 10, 2019 from Tom Westbrook. New radiator, new window washer motor and new backup light switch.

The infamous Crispy Critter.
This is for Mark Rock, and all those that participated in the start of the restoration of the "Crispy Critter". You mean to tell me they come in better condition than that? John J. Cowall. P.S., this memo is for all of those out there "restoring” CV's. Let's hope we can bring back the uniqueness, as well as show the performance, that these vehicles can achieve.
I've uploaded some additional Crispy Critter photos to my web page. Even more to come. Check out http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/markrock/Cosworth/index.html As for BuddyLee, yes, they do come in better condition than this. But those are always more expensive, and not as much of a challenge as anybody can restore a car that is not too far gone. :) Mark
Mark, if anybody can restore a CV, why are only less than 1000 left? :) Personally, it is great to see people who care about these cars take something that others would think of as parts, and try to bring it back to life. Mr. Rock, you and your sons have helped keep this Club alive, as well as the spirit of the CVOA alive. Anyone who is new to this site, or the CVOA, I suggest buying the back issues of the CVOA magazine. This shows the foundation that has been laid to what we are today. The CVOA in its beginnings helped set up a lifeline, as well as a way to preserve the meaning of this unique automobile. Mark, you and those in your Region, by trying to revive the "Crispy Critter", embody what the CVOA stands for. John J. Cowall
