In August of 2010 a car incorrectly claiming to have dash number 3221 was offered for sale by Eaglefish
in Dade City FL, Richard’s former “partner”.. He wrote:
1976 COSWORTH‐VEGA, SERIES NUMBER 3221, PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY. THIS IS AN
UNFINISHED RESTORATION PROJECT. A ROLLER. The body has been restored using NOS parts. This CV
body went through a ground up restoration. It has zero miles since restoration. The car was stripped
down to the bare unitized body. Any rust and any damage was correctly and completely repaired. The
car was repainted in the original black and a repro stripe kit was installed. The car was then re‐
assembled using NOS parts. The car comes with the original computer and fuel injection parts. The car is
a ROLLER, meaning that it does not come with the engine, transmission, driveshaft, shifter or wheels
and tires. Old wheels and tires will be provided to move the car. There is no radio as it was not included
from the factory. It does have the delete plate. The interior has been freshened up, except for the cloth
seat inserts. They are okay ‐ usable, but are not up to the same quality as the rest of the interior. The
photos are the only ones available. The car is being advertised locally and the seller reserves the right to
cancel this listing. The car is being sold "as is, where is". No warranties or guarantees, expressed or
implied, are being offered. Be sure that you know what it is that you are buying because all sales are
final. A $500.00 non‐refundable down payment is due within 24 hours of purchase. Purchaser must
either pick‐up the vehicle in person or make arrangements for transport. The car can remain safely
stored for a short period of time (to be negotiated) without charge. If vehicle is not picked up within
thirty (30) days, it will be resold. Please feel free to ask any questions. I am listing this for a friend.

I just received a bunch of photos from Richard of #3212. It is definitely Firethorn/Firethorn. The sun has
dulled the brilliance of the Firethorn paint, however. The downside with the car is that it needs a whole
roof and the cowl panel! The rest of the car appears to be solid according to Richard. The interior is
damaged from water intrusion and mold and has some typical seam tears on the front seats. He is going
to remove the interior, clean and salvage what he can of it and go from there. The wheels look in good
condition and the engine was rebuilt a few years back. At least the car is sheltered now and in good
hands. Richard found a build sheet from HME. It appears the engine in the car has been rebuilt by HME.
It has been sleeved; the head is ported with 3 angle valve job, COE 10:1 pistons and those previously
mentioned Crane cams. The engine has about 4,000 miles on the rebuild. This CV has turned out to be a
great by for the money! The HME engine build spec tag is missing from the engine. It was probably
removed when the Crane cams were switched for the OEM stock cams. But, as I mentioned, Richard
does have the build sheet from HME that lists all of the specifications and of the engine build, the work
performed and the parts that were installed. HM performed the engines build in 1996 at a price of
$3500. John (John and Richard)

Posted in June of 2007: Just wanted everyone to know that Richard Schruefer just bought #3212 a little
while ago. '76 4‐speed, Oxblood & saddle. He bought it from a body shop in Safety Harbor, FL. The guy
took it in lieu of payment for some work on another car. The body shop owner had it since early 2000s.
It just sat in front of the shop. We looked at it when I was living in FL. The guy wanted #3,000 for it then.
Richard got it for $1,300. Considering the condition, it was a bargain. The low pressure pump and fuel
lines are all clogged with debris, but the fuel tank was cleaned and coated ‐ go figure. Newer HP pump.
So, Richard is trying to get it running. There is a dent in the left quarter right on top of the corner above
the taillight. Windshield area leaks around the driver’s side. Some rust in some of the other roof pillars.
Chassis in good condition. Stripes could be better, but they are intact. Wheels need some work. Don't
know much else. John (John and Richard)

I was contacted by someone who spotted a Firethorn CV #3212 at the following address:
Handley Automotive
401 Tesa Ave. South
Safety Harbor, FL
Telephone 727‐726‐2886
Was told it did run a couple of years ago when parked. Says there is significant rust around windshield
pillars. Don’t have VIN or any other info. This is not close to me at all. Perhaps someone over on the
west coast of Florida may want to check it out. Jerry

VIN # 1V77O6U219700, EFI #3592, Fisher body tag # 1HV77U262194. I could not see the Tonawanda
numbers on the rear of the motor. This car is in Safety Harbor, FL. The owner is down to 2g's on price,
but unfortunately it’s a little too far gone for me to start it as a project. The cowl area and front
windshield pillar are gone. Info courtesy of Gary Wachowiak, July 2003

There appears to be extra Cosworth parts above beyond two completed cars above (see entry for 0138) . Both cars have had same family ownership for over a decade

I have been doing a database on Cosworths since 99, and so far I have 25 Cosworths that were green
including yours. I don't have any other info on your car so if you can email me, maybe we can exchange
some information. Of those 25, at least 3 have the Skytrends sunroofs. It was not on a lot of the cars
but they are around. Of the 25 Cosworths I own, I have 2 with sunroofs. If those numbers could be used
as a baseline, maybe 10 percent of the 76 Cosworths had sunroofs. Hope to hear more from you. Take
care, Chris Wheaton.

There was no "factory sliding sunroof". There was an optional "flip up" plastic roof panel, that I would
not call a sunroof. Hollandia made a sliding steel sunroof kit for the Vega Hatchback body. I have one in
my CV and have seen ONE other CV with a Hollandia sliding steel sunroof. It was available as either
manual or electric. Mine is manual. You just grab the latch and slide it back or forward as required.
There is no data on CV colors ‐ just a breakout of colors for the entire Vega model line. In any event,
since body colors other than black were only available during the last six or seven months of production,
which amounted to only about 1000 cars, any CV that is not black is relatively rare. Duke

I have just purchased my first Cosworth. Unfortunately it needs a lot of parts/work. It is a 76 5‐speed.
Does anyone know how many green Cosworths were built? How rare is the factory sliding roof? I can’t
seem to find the info anywhere. Thanks Matt Lepperd/goatphister.

As of October of 2010, this car may be owned by Steve Wolf of Atlanta. He says it was originally owned
by Fred Kieffer, then sold to someone else, then he bought it. But he is not positive of the dash number.
He says it has been repainted, white, the original color, but has blue stripes on it and a red interior. It
has been lowered, has Webers, and a very high performance engine built by Wheels On Fire Racing. It
has about 80k on the clock, but only about 30k on the motor. It comes with many spare parts, including
Bosch high pressure pumps and NOS dash bezels.

December 2003. Mr. Rupert: Hello. My name is John Ouimet and I live in the San Francisco East Bay
area. Several years ago (too many to think about) I bought Cosworth #3228. After driving it for a few years I stored
it with the intention of fixin’-her-up someday. During this time we also were running a CV in SCCA GT3 racing
here on the West coast. Well, now I am preparing to do some house remodeling and realize that that someday
probably isn't any time soon, and that this car is just going to rot away in my yard if I don't do something soon. The
car itself is in fairly good shape, very straight body and little surface rust. The underside is also in good shape. I
accumulated a quite an assortment of parts both performance and stock over time, including one engine that I
dragged out of a farmers barn (not in good shape) 2 heads both ported (one in need of plug thread repair) several sets
of cams, piston stock and after-market, stainless valves and an assortment of shims. All of this stuff is going to
waste in my garage and yard. What I would relay like is to see is everything go to a good home where it will get the
attention that it deserves. If you know of someone who may be interested in what I have, they come and get it and it
is theirs. I hope to hear from you and have a good holiday.
